Hi, there is a temporary "fix" as the issue is with the latest version of (not so) Smart Notebook. It does seem to affect just W11 OS. Uninstall and roll back to an earlier version - I went back to 22 rather than mess about and this works fine, feel free to try later versions. A right pain if you have loads to do - but works until they sort themselves out.

The existing firewall is provided by EMPsn - Don't ask... We will be using filtering etc provided by Securly until we can do it all properly.

Thanks - We will have filtering etc provided by a third party, it's just the initial setup I'm struggling with. As I said, it's just until September when we will do it "properly" It was all set up with BT Education, so make of that what you will...

Maybe a dumb question, but it's based on the complete Non-Support from BT all all levels (why am I surprised?) I'm trying to help a very small infant school get through to the end of their broadband contract so they can upgrade to a decent connection. Purely as a temporary measure, we've got a basic SOGEA connection - this should give us up to 70Mb rather than the 5Mb contract they are currently tied into until September. This new one is with BT, who in their wisdom have sent us a BT Hub2 which is "out of the box". I have to admit, I have no idea how to get this integrated into the network - we have a server with DNS and DHCP, I'm guessing I have to switch off the DHCP on the hub and forward ports to the server, but BT help is unintelligible/non-existent. Has anyone done this before? BT are not even willing to send out an engineer to assist.

Did this happen? Currently counting our laptops etc...

Just had real world experience when a digger tore up our fibre.. The contractors "loaned" us a 4G backup - Find your best signal areas first I would say at this point, and this worked well, only initial issue was we also lost the VOIP phones so some extra configuration might be necessary through your provider to keep everything up. We are with Schools Broadband who offer a 4G backup option that we are investigating, looks like £650 pa, plus a one off for the router, preconfigured.

Its an out of the box Netgear GS110TP - The main building side is a Linksys LGS326P, again no modifications or port security. IP's are different, phone config is identical, the phone works in the main building. The only thing I thought of was that both switches are POE -so maybe the data/power split over a single cable was interfering. So I disabled POE on the main building port - Still no change. Thanks for all the suggestions..

I have the happy job of installing 8 Sharp 65" screens over Summer - We had a demo and we were very impressed. I have installed Smart (V.Heavy), BenQ which are excellent, and Hitachi which have rubbish remotes. We got the price down to £1200 per unit - I heard about Smart changing their licencing model, that it costs more if you don't have any Smart screens. looking to move away from Smart Notebook as soon as we can.

Hi, yes if I plug either phone directly into the link socket, it will work - It's when I plug the link cable into the switch that only one phone works, (the same phone each time). All cables have been checked and swopped just in case. I have also factory reset the mini switch which is a Netgear GS110TP.

Hi - Here's a good one - we have an external building that I want to put two Yealink VOIP phones into - The phones are all on their own, completely separate network LAN. I have run a cable from a network point in the main building to the cabinet in the external building - Patched that back to the dedicated VOIP/POE switch. Plugged the other end of that cable into a dedicated switch in the external building and patched that through to the two phone points.. One works, one doesn't - But works back in the main building. Its as if the line from the main building to external building will only allow one phone. Have I missed something?

Hi - Nope, it all goes through the same "hole" Still no major problems, just getting it as we want it, currently reading the user guide for the web interface, we deactivated part of the hunt feature as after a couple of days we found it was just ignored so had to make the full round trip before going to voicemail - So a lesson learned, be realistic as to who will actually pick up the phone.. All DDI's are local - Waiting for the final BT number port next week, I also have a phone at the end of a wireless P2P with no issues.

Yea! All installed and working. The biggest thing was filling out the spreadsheets - Each phone has to have a active user with email and you decide what happens when someone rings. There are options for "Hunt Groups", and loads of other options that probably won't be required for a small Primary School. Essentially all we wanted was a system that receives a call - If there is no answer it moves on to the next phone and eventually if no one picks up goes to answerphone. There are open and closed hours settings and stuff that might be useful later on.. hardware arrived pre-configured as per the spreadsheet, but a sticker on the box would have been useful to say which was which. Other points - If you havent got a POE switch with enough ports, you will need one. Get it yourself as you will probably get a better deal. We bought a sub £100 Netgear ProSafe 8 port PoE Smart Switch (GS110TP), which works great, with room to expand. The switchover is handled firstly by a divert, so make sure you have that feature enabled or it's a half hour of your life wasted trying to talk to the relevant department. BT quoted 4-24 hours, but it switched over in under 20 minutes. The full porting of the number is likely to take longer, Useful to know.. If the call is answered, any subsequent call can be diverted to the next phone on the list and yes you can also make calls while one is in process. Obvious to some, but seems like a miracle to some users.Each phone also has a "direct dial" number, where the last 3 digits allow a call directly to an extension. Sound quality is better than the old system - and they are easy to move - Just patch the relevant socket into your POE switch and you are away. Early days - But so far highly recommended and cheaper than the old system.

We are just moving to a TalkStraight/Schoolsbroadband option as we are with them for Broadband/Filtering, they have just upgraded their VOIP package offer. Looks very competitive with free phones on the 5 year option. Looks great for Primary schools - Example price - Ordering 1 line, 1 reception phone, 3 extra voip handsets, a wireless handset, includes all local/national/mobile calls. One off cost of £607 with a Monthly cost of £38.75 all in.

Hi, how many people are having issues with W10 installs failing due to incompatible wireless cards? It's a known issue and I have seen Samsung are big offenders as they are now out of the laptop business, so couldn't care less about support. Not that Microsoft are exactly full of ideas either.... I have also started having some issues with some Toshiba laptops, notably C50's - which over all my schools add up to a considerable number and the only sure fix I can find is to replace the WiFi card with a compatible one which works every time, not really looking forward to that as a full fix for obvious reasons... Anyone else suffering?

Hi, Meraki is very good to try.. Still free, for the moment anyway, works with Apple and Android and you can pick individual machines to send apps to. You will need an Apple push certificate, but can get one easy enough through the Meraki setup process, monitoring is excellent... Lightspeed is a good long term bet, especially if you get your broadband from Schools Broadband who do a decent package, and did have a trial period. Hope that helps!

Yep, from my experience a strong colour is cable related. Get up there with a short "normal" cable connected to a laptop and try that... Follow all health and safety rules of course! If it was red, especially from a corner, it is usually a toasted colour filter. If your projectors have air filters make sure you clean then regularly. Hope this all helps.
