Quick update.... Everything running well apart from our secondary server. This is connected as a member to the AD of our FRDC which runs Ranger ( a cheaper version of RM, bit like CC4 but far more basic). The secondary server which is playing up is on the network perfectly, no issues at all other than, WSUS is no longer working. Backup working well, av working well from this server - both of which use the network to store backups or protect systems. This is the WSUS error, any ideas?: ... I forgot to say, all I have done to this secondary server is change the subnet from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.252.0 - it has a statically assigned IP. I have bounced the server three times and flushed dns, but no change in the WSUS.

Hi there, I have changed our subnet so we can accommodate more devices on the network. It was: 10.75.44.10/24 (available host addresses:254) It is now: 10.75.44.10/22 (available host addresses:1022) I am in the process of changing the DHCP scope in DHCP on our server following the following guide. Our existing pool is: 10.75.44.20-219. Now we have additional available addresses, I would like to extend the range but I am unsure how as we have a static range of 10.75.44.220-249 for telephones managed by an external company. How can I make use of the additional host addresses without having to get the telephone company in to change the IPs on their phones? Would I just create a bigger pool and then add in an exclusion range?

I have just followed through the very useful steps here http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-10/159435-set-chrome-default-browser-group-policy.html ..on how to set Chrome as the default browser on Windows 10 through policy. It is working a treat, however, I notice that all users still get an IE icon on the task bar. Has anyone managed to remove this via Group Policy, and if so, how did you manage this?

Thank you. Well the GP seems to be working as there is mention of the WSUS server in the logs. There are quite a few errors showing in the log. I have attached it. Client computer has detected 39 updates and is currently installing them. WindowsUpdateLog.txt *Update, 37 updates failed and two were a success.

Hi there, I have recently configured a new Server 2012 FRDC and a second Server 2012 for WSUS and AV. The servers are named stm-sr-001 and stm-sr-002 respectively. I am able to browse to both on the local network or from server to server. If I open on a client computer or server the following location: http://stm-sr-002.local:8530/, I get the following screen... Should this display if it is working correctly? I have added this to the correct place in Group Policy and just wanted to verify that everything is configured as expected.

Good morning, I am working with a school who have a cheap 48 port Zyxel switch and two HP PS1810-25G switches. I would like to get the Zyxel replaced with a 48 port HP equivalent. The current HP hardware here appears to have web management interface so I don't think it would do any more than layer 2. Can anyone suggest the best HP equivalent with 48ports? They are not running V-Lans or anything like that, only a one form entry primary so doubt they will do in future.

Hi there, We have an old HP ML350G5 which currently runs our admin network of around 15 computers. I also have a redundant ML650 G6 with one Xeon E5504 @2ghz and 6gb of ram, plus 4 x 500gb hdds. I thought it would be sensible to use this to virtualise a version of Server 2012 for admin and another version of Server 2012 for Sophos EC, however, this system is just not going to have the resources to do this. I have used VMware ESXI and it looked like it would work really well. Can anyone tell me what they think I should do? We have limited budget, and I just have the feeling that by the time I mess around trying to source an additional processor, ram, hdds and a rack mount kit for this model (which is already getting on), it might just be easier to get a new HP model.

Hi, I am getting rusty on some of these network related theories, so thought I should post on here to refresh my memory. This is a home problem for me, but something which could very easily surface whilst at a school. My broadband comes in downstairs (ADSL2) and goes into my EE router. From here, it connects to a powerline adaptor which goes to my study upstairs. From this, it goes into a netgear 1gbps managed switch which has connected to it my computers and netgear 6tb nas. Internet can be slow, as well as pre-recorded movies on TV downstairs which is connected to NAS through the EE router and powerline to upstairs study. I can't understand why if I transfer files from my pc to the nas, it can take days. The pc and nas are on the same switch. They get DHCP from the router downstairs. Is the traffic going from PC, through switch, down powerline to router and then back up? If I do tracert from pc to nas I get: Tracing route to netgear.default [192.168.1.155] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms netgear.default [192.168.1.155] Trace complete. Similarly, if I do tracert to router, I get: Tracing route to BrightBox.ee [192.168.1.1] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms BrightBox.ee [192.168.1.1] Trace complete. Thanks... I think you may have the rarest screws in the world! You should probably invest in some high security storage before the ICT-Direct head offices are raided for HP screws! At the moment, I have secured the SSD drives in with a thick cable tie. I removed the conventional hdd, not sure if that was such a great idea as it leaves nothing for when the SSD dies, but it does make them lighter to move around! If I need any screws, I will give you a shout.

You may notice from the pictures that the conventional HDD (which can come out) also has them. I have tried these, however the screw is too fat and will not screw into the side of the SSD.

I have got 12 drives so 4 x 12 makes 48 - quite a few!

Good morning, I have a number of HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF computers I would like to replace the conventional HDD with for an SSD. The Sandisk SSD Plus drives I have got here are literally just the drives and a black plastic anti-vibration stickypad. I have a more expensive 800 G1 which comes with an SSD and it has these screws on the SDD drive. Where can I buy these as I would like to do the same on the cheaper ones. There is a slot on this model for an SSD, but you need the special screws to be able to mount it.

Hi there, Does anyone have a known supplier of alternative iPad lightening cables? We have been getting through the expensive Apple ones at a fast rate as pupils and staff are slamming the door of our iPad dock down so hard, it is slicing through the cables. I am wondering if anyone knows of some 30cm style leads which would do the job. We did try some from Ebay, but they fell apart within days. They need to be quite strong to withstand the demands of school use. I have attached an image of our current 'solution'.
