  1. That's great. Will see if I can get one ordered. Thanks for your help.
  2. Hmmm ok. I have never ever, ever used MS Server Data Center. How did you guys learn how to use it? It is a completely new area for me. More than happy to go down this route, but not at all confident in setting it up or using it. Any advice on how you came to use it and learn how to set it up would be very much appreciated.
  3. The company I normally use for racking is suggesting some of the items on this page: https://www.comms-express.com/categories/rack-solutions-tool-less-fixed/ What do you think about the 3u one at the bottom?
  4. Hmm, could do. Would you use the free vSphere Hypervisor from VMWare?
  5. Thank you for your post. Do you know if the Startech rack you linked to will 100% fit the ML 350 G6 as if it will do, I will go with that. I agree, it looks far more sturdy and will allow me to fix it in all four corners as you say.
  6. Hi there, I have an old 2008 R2 server which I would like to replace with a shiny new 2012 or 2016 Windows server. Our current 2008 install has been very reliable and as such, I have not really needed to do any work on it since setting it up. I have completely forgotten how to do a swing and wondered if anyone could give me the details. The file shares and GPOs on this server are minimal so should not need too much work. Thanks in advance.
  7. Thanks, that was what I was hoping for!
  8. Hi there, I am thinking of putting our ML350 G6 into our rack. It is an older server and the proper HP rack mount kits are still quite expensive. Does anyone know how heavy the ML350 is? Was thinking of getting something like this or this. Both are substantially cheaper than an HP Rack Mount Conversion Kit for this older piece of hardware.
  9. Thanks, will check this out.
  10. Hi there, I have a colleague who is having some trouble finding a solution for an SEN child. They need to be able to clone what is being displayed on their interactive Smart board to his iPad as he has some issues concentrating. I am aware it can be done the other way round with an Apple TV or similar, but does anyone know of any affordable solutions whereby we can mirror image what is being shown on our Windows Smart board teaching computer to just one iPad?
  11. Thank you. Strange, it seems the password was blank? It must have reset it somehow. Either way, I am back on it now and able to re-configure.
  12. I am quite new to VMware and have had an unexpected issue. Our VMWare ESXi 6.0.0 server had been set up with a dynamic IP. I logged in to the server physically and set this to a static one and rebooted the machine. It came up with the static address, which is responding to ping and showing on a web browser, but it now says my password is wrong. I did not change the password and can't quite figure out what has happened. It makes no difference if I try and log in physically to the server or us the vSphere Windows software. I only had the root account set up and don't really know how I can proceed if it won't accept this password. Any ideas?
  13. Very odd. I used the loop protection that we have on our Procurve hardware and it is detecting nothing across our switches. I tested it on one which is not on the network and found that it was unable to detect a loop with STP enabled. Once I ran no spanning-tree and re ran show loop-protect all, it had immediately identified the two ports and had disabled them. When I went through our live switches on the network, nothing is being detected. I have started checking cables and trying by unplugging some on our switch, but still, no change. The lights are all flashing as expected, not the usual loop related flashing sequences. If I ping our server, this is the response I get, so something is still wrong here:
  14. Yes will try, but we have so many in the rack, its is jam packed, its hard to see the lights flashing for the wires in the way. I agree, but I am on site very little, time there is very precious, although without this issue resolved, it will be tricky to get anything else done. Yes, all Procurve. Thanks for your helpful suggestion, will take a look now.
  15. I had thought about this, but we have over 250 cables. It will take hours!!
  16. Hello there, I have a set of 9 managed HP switches running in a stack. I have reason to believe we have a loop on the network. I enabled spanning tree protocol on all switches in our stack and almost immediately, the network went back to normal behaviour. What is the best way for me to identify which port is causing this problem? I believe HP switches have a fault finder feature which may help, but I don't really want it blocking ports as this could cause even more problems on the network, particularly if it blocks suspected ones which are not actually causing a problem. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  17. Thanks, your first suggestion would only work from now on wouldn't it? I am looking for something which would work for past events in the log. The second suggestion, I have tried, but when I filter, it just keeps saying it can't find anything.
  18. Thank you. Yup, if I do reload, it just does it for the switch I am on, which is usually the commanding switch. - - - Updated - - - Oh????
  19. Hi there, I would like to use Event Viewer on our server to see exactly who has logged into our server for a specific time period. Does anyone know how I should set up the advanced search feature within Event Viewer such that I can see what I am after in the logs?
  20. All Procurve, a number of models: J9280A J9777A J9087A J9775A
  21. Hi there, Does anyone know if there is a CLI command for HP switches which will enable me to reboot an entire stack? We have a stack consisting of 8 separate switches? I have tried running an SSH session to the controller and running the "reload" command, but this only seems to bounce the commander, not the entire stack. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
  22. Thanks very helpful. Advanced features were not enabled, that is why I couldn't find it! It seems the account has been in place for years, but I never spotted it. Is there any way I can drill down into the event viewer and obtain a clear to read log of which accounts have been logged into within a specific recent time frame and to which hosts?
  23. Thanks for your post. Can you explain how I can do that?
  24. Good evening there. I have reason to believe that we may have had a security breach on our 2008 server. I have noticed that in the past fortnight, a new administrator account has appeared in AD with a admin sounding username to blend in with what we already have. I have tried to view (via power shell) when this account was created, or any others in the past 30 days, but the command is not going through. Can anyone recommend to me some commands I may find useful in getting to the bottom of this? If I open Event Viewer and go to Security, I can view all of the security info, but when I filter the logs selecting Event Logs: as "Microsoft Windows security auditing." If I try and type in the user in the user section (as in the below screenshot), it is unable to find anything, although I can manually scan through and see it in the logs. This is my PowerShell version: PS C:\Users\lmi123> $psversiontable.psversion Major Minor Build Revision ----- ----- ----- -------- 2 0 -1 -1 I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard version 6.1 (Build 7601:SP1) Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
  25. Email support has not been satisfactory at all and as you have pointed out, there are sparse online guides/support. We have been having our telephone systems re-done and there is no mobile reception so unfortunately, I have not experienced their telephone support, but their email support has been pretty awful. Support representatives seeming not to understand their products and systems - has been far more of a headache than I would have liked. If you got the time, I think users on the forum would very much appreciate it.
