  1. One of my schools has been trying Kindles, but the problem there is the way in which the Amazon account has to be handled. There are loads of free Gutenberg texts on there and you can get the first chapter of many in print books for free. If only we could figure out how to manage the 'account' bit! P.s. we have the same issue with using itouch in the classroom
  2. as said previously on this thread you can filter by IP address where PCs are identified for staff use only. You can also alter filtering by time slot, if you want to allow access during a training day for example. If you move to full use of LGfL USO (which does not have a cost) an additional service (which does have a cost) is per user level filtering, but i know, because i have one school working on this, that it is not fully developed yet. I use this solution for the filtering on the laptops for looked after children, and i am able to have 6 different profiles.
  3. can I just say what a wonderful bunch of people you are, you've given me so much to take forward. I really appreciate the help & advice.
  4. that's the puzzle, none of the text shows on the web page and I can't find any hidden hyper linked areas. This is the web site Home http://www.emersonparkssp.co.uk looks innocuous enough until you view the html (incidentally if it is inapropoariate for me to give this URL on the forums please someone tell me!) I wondered whether it was being used to - hype someone elses URL up search result lists? - used to generate hidden advertising revenue?
  5. I don't know where the site is hosted, I'm getting the school to find out. The code doesn't seem to affect the visible page at all. I just wondered what the lines of code did?
  6. My first edugeek forum question, so apologies if it is naive! I work with schools and one has a sports website produced by an external company. The pages were triggering filters, the content you saw was fine, but when I looked at the HTML I found a chunk of code on all pages - mostly in the middle - here's a short extract.... href="http://www.mundoblack.com.br/Sporanox-blog.html">Sporanoxdecoy octopusdenver housing authority jobsDiscount AlfacipLipvasblack tight virgin pussy the urls varied page to page, if navigated to lots led to a site called blogorama & http://www.machinemove.co.uk/blog Cnn.com live / Wordpress Obviously the school is asking their web company for an explanation, but I'm impatient. I have my theories, but I'd love to hear your ideas. Thanks
  7. Hi I'm Penny from London I'm too old to be classed as a girl anymore. I work for a local authority. I have been in tech jobs in the past, although not now. I'm a very old and lasped MCP/MCSE, so long ago as to be little use now, but it does mean my Microsoft ID number is very low
