I use Avast Home edition at home. it is free and updates automatically. I have been using it for 2 or 3 years and havent any problems with it yet. It is easy to use and doesnt "eat" much resourses.

depends on what you want, what you need..The more checks software has, the more expensive it costs. Anyways any software has a trial version so you have time to check it out and decide. But in my opinion if you decide to buy something it is better to pay once but not every month, and get updates and help from developers for free.

I can recommend "Network Monitor" 10-Strike Network Monitor - a Network Monitoring Program (for Windows)
-
I do not. It would take too much time to learn about every piece of software we use at university. Besides they dont pay for it lol Actually I do something like mini testing just to be sure that software works after installing. That is all. But learnign everything about is is out of my responsibility.

Fox1977, there is my advice above about Network Inventory Explorer (Network Inventory Software: Audit and Track Network Computer Inventory (Hardware & Software) for Windows). With it you can knew whether the software has license and serial numbers or not.

I tryed the trial Camtasia. It has what you need: zoom in and zoom out. Also it has a lot of useful functions like recording video from your screen, adding tutorials, arrows with notes, and many other options. However its rather expensive and I should say it needs much resourses. I have 1 Gb ram on my pc and sometimes CamtasiaStudio got a little bit slow. Anyway I reccomend you to try it Tutorials for Camtasia Studio p.s. Wink is good for recording and editing your video but it doesnt have funcuion zoom in and out. http://www.debugmode.com/wink/

from the SofTool 2010 exhibition of russian software in Moscow I have heard about the "10-Strike LANState" and "Network Diagram" programs. they can draw network maps automatically or you can add computers and draw lines manually. Or you can replace computers on the map anywhere you want. Well you can do everything you want on your map. But LANState has wider functional that you may need. Its program to monitor your neywork AND to create a network map. "Network Diagram" is to create a network map only. This is what I know. For more information you'd better to visit their website Good luck

you may try this one Connection Monitor. It is a share access monitoring tool and can be installed on pc or on server.

Do you ever run a computer without an antivirus and/or firewall?
Elison replied to bladedanny's topic in General Chat
localzuk, I do agree with you. Ecpessialy your PC is not safe if it is used by a few people, like in schools, universities and so on. You may know how to protect your PC, e.g. you scan all files with AV, visit trusted sites only, use firewall and etc. But others may not know all this things. Stuff like only one owner but if there are a lot of them...Then its in a high risk of catching "something". I was in a such situation, when my 3 months work was ruined with all OS on my school PC. I had to start from the very beginning. -

But what if those "trusted" sites are hacked too? you will never know what hackers can think out.....Sometimes even owners of websites can not know about whats going on...As I have already said, one of my colleagues cought few viruses on his internet provider's site. He spent then 2 days to clean all system with AVZ, dr.web and Ksapersky. So in my opinion you can get virus anywhere in the internet. Or from your friend's usb stick..... . -

the best protection of your pc is you...You have to understand how many viruses are in the INternet. And nowadays they are not only on porn sites how it used to be. Now you can catch it anywhere. One of my colleagues got it from his provider official website 2 weeks again. So I think that the supplemental plug ins in your browser are necessary. Like No Scripts in FF and so on. -

Elison replied to bladedanny's topic in General Chat
yes, Unfortunately I have. And would like to say that will never repeat this experiment again. Almost all my data was failed becouse of viruses I got from the Internet. Actually I dont remember why I didnt install any antivirus...Maybe just forgot...But lesson was succeed. Now at home I use Avast antivirus. Its free and has home edition version. So rather comfortable for me. Moreover I try to scan the system with AVZ. It is free also. I understand that no one antivirus can protect your PC totally. Any antivirus has its own weak points. That is why I try to use both of them. On my work PC I use Kaspersky. To my mind it has the most ideal system of protection....But it isnt ideal still... And of course firewall on work PC. -
I play The Sims 3. I love it...I like to rule small people in this game, make characters, families, kids and so on. I feel like I am a small girl playing with dolls. But have more options and variety lol

try 10-Strike Network Inventory Explorer. It allows to maintain the inventory database of network computers. You can track configuration changes and get notifications if some hardware have been missed (stolen or something else). I guess it is what you exactly need. Anyway to my mind it has 30-day trial versions. Enaught to try and decide
-
how about some Inventory software that would track all your hardware? The Spicworks is free, but honestly I have never used it. However I ve heard and read about it a lot One more I can advice is 10-Strike Network Inventory Explorer (Network Inventory Software: Audit and Track Network Computer Inventory (Hardware & Software) for Windows). It collects all data about networkhardware and keeps it reports or files that you need.

it is seems like overheating of motherboard or something wrong with RAM. I have had such problem. If you reinstalled your Vista as you said, then drivers must be ok. So the system is ok too. New system fails very seldom. So the problem must be in a hardware, I think
