I have to move all our users Home directories from a Windows 2008 R2 server to my newly built 2019 Server. In the past I have tackled large data/ multiple permissions moves with Robocopy, which has involved a seed copy, update changed files and then a cutover date with downtime. I have been thinking about whether DFS can help me here. Could I register the existing 2008 home drive share on DFS. Then add my new 2019 server as a DFS member of the share. Leave them to replicate and eventually remove the 2008 server? It seems too simple – what have I misunderstood?

Cheers! That seems logical - have you found retaining legacy domains as aliases helpful for group email by location? For example headteacher at Primary1 wants to email all teaching staff at primary1.co.uk, but not all trust staff - i would image [email protected] is preferable to [email protected] ? Similarly [email protected] seems preferable to [email protected]

I am interested to hear from people who are planning or already have consolidated schools to a single o365 tenant and the best method for trust communications. For example if i have on my tenant - @Mat.co.uk, and the primary schools on their tenants - @primary1.co.uk & @primary2.co.uk etc. i understand i can move these to the @Mat.co.uk tenant. Would it makes sense then to provide everyone consolidated user with a mat.co.uk account and email address? I could then retire all of the @primaryschool.co.uk domains and force everyone to communicate with the @Mat.co.uk email suffix. Or, i could retain the @primaryschool.co.uk suffixes and add them as aliases to the @Mat.co.uk ones. This second method seems to provide better communications when staff wanted to contact staff within their site. Lastly i could retain the @primary1.co.uk and @primary2.co.uk domain names and not change anything- not provide them with @Mat.co.uk addresses, but then i would have staff communicating through different domain suffixes which seems slightly clunky, but i guess might be the best option. Sorry if i am not being very clear. Any thoughts

Still no further on. I have seen logs on the firewall that suggest some requests from my home IP are successful, - I connect and the firewall describes the connection as Web based mail on SSL, minutes later I try and fail to connect, and the firewall reports the connection as "incomplete". I have raised with our firewall support engineers who are puzzled, but asked whether we use NLB on Exchange 2013, which we do. I am starting to think I need to investigate this. Does anyone know of any links to health check whether NLB is working and configured correctly? Do you think this could be the cause? Thanks,

Just moved over from Exchange 2007 to 2013 and everything seemed to run smoothly but... When trying to access through OWA, occasionally i cannot connect - timeouts. When i can connect, i the compose a mail but it sometimes (often) fails with a message "The mesage cant be sent because your device isn't connect to the internet" When i do connect, there is a time when i cannot read emails, as if i have been disconnected. It almost seems like the service is toggling on and off, but my connection to the internet stays constant. I am thinking the firewall is dropping the connection, but just wanted to know if anyone had come across anything similar. We never had this problem with Exchange 2007, but 2013 is a very different beast.

I am having the exact same problem. I have signed up for the A3 trial, thinking i would be able to immediately swap over to A2, but i am unable to select it as an option. Were you able to resolve this?

To all the people using Palo Alto for filtering? - how are you enforcing google safe search? As I understand the unit cannot enforce this setting which seems astonishing for such a feature rich piece of kit.

We have an MC1500 that we currently use alongside an IPCOP box. The IPCOP is currently doing the DHCP/Firewall work, - firewalling 192.x traffic towards our curric addressed proxy. We want to replace the IPCOP with a more enterprise class firewall/filter and would like the Meru to be a DHCP server for about 4 networks that will be vlan'd. Anyone using the DHCP server on the Meru controller in this fashion? Would you recommend it?

The plan is to present all the Vlans/networks to the firewall (Palo Alto Pa500) and then Firewall to the BT router - No LEA involved Quick side question, i will need to route between the vlans on the core Hp A5800, as some vlans need to see the servers, do i lose the gained vlan'ed security here, or is this where i make use of my firewall ACL's? I am new to vlan routing, and whilst i understand why i can route between two different networks, i am not sure how inter vlan routing manages to pass traffic tagged from VLAN 1 to a server on Vlan 2

I will be splitting my flat network into vlans in half term, and i am confused whether the following is possible. I understand that i can use the equivalent of IP helper, or relay on the switches, but if i want my current windows 2008 server to be the DHCP server for different networks, do i need a specific NIC for each network that i want it to server IP's from, or is there a way of doing this from the a Single NIC on the server?

Hello, i have been trying to secure the support services of Scomis for a couple of years now, but being from a different county, and not being an Academy has meant that we had a lot of obstacles preventing this being a seamless process. I can't tell you what it is like to be supported day to day by scomis, but i have called on their expertise after exhausting the support offered from our LEA and they were fantastic. This is even more impressive if were to tell you that the call i made was about a SIMS SQL migration failure that we were expereincing in the middle of the summer holidays! Capita has refused to take my call, my LEA support were on their summer break, and ScoMis resolved the situation, when they had no need to do so. I have kept in touch ever since, have visited their premises and attended two training days, all were excellent!

Thanks for the reply, I managed to find a blog where someone had experienced similar problems, and had been able to restore the MSDB from another SQL server (same version) , which i think is what you were suggesting? I ended up doing this and recreating the maintenance jobs, and thankfully, all is now working! I was doing file level on the SIMS DB, but not the MSDB - Lesson learned (phew!).

I have just noticed that although SIMS is backing up 'apparently' ok, errors have been appearing suggesting that the job was unable to update the MSDB. Running a consistancy check against the SIMS db is fine, but the a consistency check against the MSDB fails almost immediatley. Our backups are Veem which backs up the host, and i don't know how far back to go to avois the corruption. Aplogies my understanding of SQL is limited, Is there a way to rebuild the MSDB without impacting on the SIMS data? Cheers!

Used to have aTVT500 which was decent, but wasn't scaling well to the amount of devices we were seeing on out network. Have recently upgraded (hmmm....) to a 1250W, with the new software interface, and am wishing we hadn't bothered. Our unit is slow, the interface clunky and illogical, policies aren't as updating as fast, and WebAdmin is much much slower, sometimes timing out. Support is harder to achieve, ( i suspect due to the growth in support requests over the new products and their problems). Anyone pleased with the new versions? Cheers

Just been testing a couple of IPads in a primary setting, and despite great enthusiasm, one little cherub managed to set a passcode and not remember it, which resulted in everyone being locked out until i did a restore. Is passcode not a feature you can remove, or disable access to? I realise that i might be able to reset the passcode with a mobileme account, but if used as a shared resource, i would just prefer to lockdown or remove this feature. Anyone been able to do this?
