Is that patch still applicable today - with sp2 or sp3 installed? If so can anyone give me a working link to it kb article or whatever!?!? Thanks

I've just gone with 2008 after a complete hardware failure on our 2003 server. Go for it mate.

I aquired Server 2008 for one fo the schools I work at and something very nice was the ability to Import, Export and Create things called Starter GPO's. If anyone else has any Starter GPOs that they have configured I would very much appreciate them, otherwise I have got to spend the rest of eternity configuring all of the settings Don't worry though, if I get no volunteers, I will submit my starter GPO once it is finished for perusal, modification and mayby reimplemntation into my network. BTW: Planning to dump Ranger and go Vanilla with proper settings and GPO structure - first time doing that

Is it just me or are those almost absolutely useless with those kind of restrictions? Any ideas on what we could actually use those for?

Just to give you a scenarion with a recent problem of mine. The machine just plain out-rigth was useless - server was completely bogged down with requests and it appeared Sophos was to blame after it half installed an auto-update. After removing Sophos - like yourself it went much better and yes there were still services running to do with Sophos, but seeing as I was reinstalling Sophos I didn't mind. After re-installation I made absolutely sure, as suggested previously, that the on-access scanner was disabled and that a daily scan was run during the night. I also recently had a problem with no access to the server as it was being flooded with network packets - the culprit - a network cable looped from one port into another - the worst bit - it was a teacher trying to be tidy!

Okay, then I retract my previous and state that you must be carefull - as every Internet law is tricky but you don't want anything bad happening - I just stick to UK and EU hosts!

russdev - It is very, very very important and indeed for all other people considering hostign space. It is ILLEGAL to host UK data on foreign servers. This is a privacy requirement and comes under the juresdiction of a few laws. You can host the site on foreign soil, but the database etc must be on uk soil and must have a secure connection between the two locations if you are doing this!

j17 Google images used to be blocked by my LEA, but they just introduced a new system (bit of code) that forces the content protection (safe search) on google and many of the other image engines - so now its unblocked and available to use! See if your LEA has done the same. This happened within the last two weeks... OP I have my server on an un-restricted IP addy so I can get to SF - can't you do the same with your LEA filtering?

Supreme Commander I have all three faction packs of this and can't play any of them unless I'm happy with 4FPS. Seems I need a pay rise for a new rig

Haven't done this type of programming ever, but I am happy to learn it and working as a group. Depends what the time constraints are though as I am a little busy atm - nudge me if you want me!
