  1. Could you export to csv and then in excel sort the date column and then just delete the rows from dates previous to what you want?
  2. I have a BT Infinity contract on its on phone line. I use it day to day for the VOIP phones and then its there if i need to use it for anything else should i need to. £30 a month is a cheap solution for a backup line in my eyes. I do also have a couple of 4G wifi dongles in my drawer that we can use in a mega emergency. These were bought for another reason and just kept not bought specifically for a 3rd option for broadband.
  3. We have HCSS here our MAT have it for all of their schools. From my experience its great. We moved from FMS -> Corero -> HCSS. I think HCSS is miles beyond the others! I have a login as a department holder (all hods have one) i can then logon and view my budget balance, raise an order where i put in all the information and pick the supplier (if we have used them before). Once i press submit it goes to the Business Manager for approval she clicks convert to order and it emails the order straight to the supplier - an order from me filling in the web form to it being approved and with the supplier can be 10mins - if i speak nicely to the SBM! From the SBM's point of view its good as we use HCSS to write the budget and its simple to match the budgets in the accounting module to the budgeting module. When we have had to use their support they have been fine. Phoned up over the summer with the SBM as we couldnt do something and they told us that an option wasnt selected somewhere else to allow us to do what we wanted.
  4. If you go for Data Center licences you can have unlimited VM's. You could go for 2 servers still as part of the same cluster so you have a bit of resilience if one goes down.
  5. Instead of using the OneDrive App you can map the OneDrive to a share using the onedrive mapper script https://www.lieben.nu/liebensraum/onedrivemapper/
  6. The report has dates for the months set in the sims report design section. The report uploaded is for 2015/16 so as the KS3 students didnt attend during those dates they arent getting any data. The KS4 attendance figures would be for 2015/16. If in sims if you edit the report and then on the data fields page if you edit the date for each of the blue boxes to represent the dates for this school year then it should work.
  7. I found Veyon mentioned on here on another thread, i have downloaded it but havent had the time to look at it yet. Oh and its my favourite price - free!! https://veyon.io/
  8. Could you use a google form and then do an export of the data from your MIS and then use the formatting tools to highlight any cells that dont match. eg: column 2 is parent name from google, column 15 is parent name from mis and then get it to match the data between col 2 & 15 and highlight red if different. I know this might throw up some spelling or space differences but i suppose you could split the boxes to forename, surname on both.
  9. There is a link to the latest version of Solus3 on MyAccount. The zip file contains all the exe files that you need. https://myaccount.capita-cs.co.uk/login/?returnurl=%2fNotifications%2fSIMS-Release-Download-Links%2f
  10. What about an intel compute stick? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-STK1A32SC-Compute-Stick-Black/dp/B01CZTCO6Q You could then use VNC to control from your pc
  11. Desktops is the easiest and most manageable for most staff. I had 30 odd classrooms all with varying specs of machines from P4 to i5 depending on when the existing ones died! I made a decision to one year replace the whole lot with the same new PC's as i had people complaining that Room1 has a better computer than Room2...... With the new PC's i made sure that each room was setup the same, i5 desktop 17" tft, same set of speakers and SMART board. It meant that staff could move from room to room and know what to expect. I now have it written into the rolling replacement plan to replace on a schedule like the IT suites.
  12. I try and do the updates out of hours if i can or i do it at a time that i know most people wont be using it and after speaking the head & data office (being the 2 people who mainly use it here). I kick everybody else off it by closing the files from the shared folders mmc - there was a proper link for this on Server 12 but cant find it on Server 16 but adding the snap-in works. Seems to work ok 99% of the time.
  13. I always update 4matrix itself on the server. I dont update the 4Matrix manager just the application. Are you running the client on each machine individually? Or on a network share as i mentioned above? If on a share you need to make sure that no one has it open when it upgrades as otherwise it has a meltdown and you have to reinstall the client. When ive run the upgrade on my one file server where the network share is sometimes it fails, i just reinstall the client from the 4matrix server and then it does lots of updates to get to the latest and is fine.
  14. My upgrade went through fine. Is it the server you had issues with the upgrade or the clients?
  15. Yes it performs fine. I would make the shortcut to the 4matrix.exe rather than the launcher.exe and also create the launchersettings.xml file so you can stop it updating unless you tell it to. There are instructions on the 4matrix website and i think the new 4matrix network manager created the launcher settings for you. I have the AD groups setup as well so it auto logs the staff in and have no issues for the head/exams officer side or the standard staff member. Only problem i have had over the years is .net framework going loopy in the users profile and needing a new profile to fix it. But that is 2 staff members in 5 years so not really a real problem. let me know if you want any more help
  16. You dont have to have 4Matrix installed on every machine. I have it on the 4Matrix server, then i have it installed to a folder on my staff shared area (on the staff file server). I have then pointed shortcuts for all staff in the W10 start menu to the file on the staff shared area and it works fine. I have been running it this way since we got 4Matrix 5+ years i think now! Whenever there is an update for it i just have to logon to the 2 servers and manually run the upgrade. I have added myself to the 4matrix mailing list that notifies me when an update is available.
  17. Years ago i had some laptops (think it was the little eeeeepc netbooks) where they worked fine with xp on my old aruba wifi. Upgraded to win 7 and the logons were unusable talking 5-10mins+ Got a ruckus AP on trial and connected them up to that and it logged in normally in 30 secs. I tried updating drivers and firmware on the laptops but it had no change. My old aruba wifi was due for replacement as it was nearly 8/9 years old and only b/g at the time. So went ruckus throughout and never looked back. Put it down to some sort of conflict between bad drivers and the AP's. Have you got a usb wifi dongle you could put on one of the win 7 devices to try?
  18. I have 18 iMacs and a Mac Mini server for my music suite and they just work to be honest, never have to go in there! They are bound to my AD and use profile manager for restrictions etc. This summer i have rebuilt my entire Windows network and now need to migrate the macs to the new domain. 1) My old domain was %SchoolInitals% . local - yes i made the error of using a .local domain with imacs. It is better now that when i first got the macs 5/6 years ago. My new domain is %SchoolInitials%.org My server is currently called MacServer.local if i just rename it to MacServer.org as per my new domain and then go into Preferences->User Accounts-> Login Options -> Network Account Server, edit this and remove the old domain name and bind to the domain name. 2) If i then repeat this step unbind/bind to new domain for each of my 18 iMacs is that all i need to do? 3) Will it break any of the profile manager stuff? I know i will need to change any network mounts i have for shared areas etc. but i presume it will map the new home areas based on the windows AD home folder setting? All the groups and users currently showing in Profile manager are from the old network do i need to delete these or will the unbind/bind process fix these? All the iMacs and the server have fixed IP's which wont be changing at all which should help i guess. Sorry for all the questions!! Any advise is much appreciated!! I did have a look on google but couldnt find an answer, it was all about moving from local accounts to domain accounts.
  19. I found that just setting the permissions on the Run & Search shortcuts in the Group2 folder to my students security group to deny and it hid everything.
  20. I pay capita direct for the licences and the basic support which covers all patches and upgrades. The LA offered an enhanced support package that was nearly £5k a year which entitled us to remote support when needed, in 3 years of paying this i think i used it 3 times and they didnt answer the problem on any of them, i found the answers either on here or on the capita supportnet articles. I have now canceled this enhanced support and taken out another support with a local sims support provider, its actually the old LA SIMS support team before capita bought out the IT for the LA and its about £700 a year!
  21. Yes 2 x 5406 stacked and the servers have 20g connection to each switch. All other devices where possible have 2 network connections, one to each switch for full redundancy! I had a 5412 before the fire and the 2 x 5406 just gives a little piece of mind that there is not a single point of failure.
  22. Yep think due to the location of the server room 85% of the network points for the whole school are cabled back to the server room!! This is going to result in 16 x 2920 stacked as 4 groups of 4
  23. 5406 Core Switches 2920 Edge Switches R510 AP's DL380 G9 Servers Cant remember the desktops but i5 8gb RAM & 120SSD So i have the insurance to thank for a smoothly running network of new equipment but the downside is that it will all need replacing at the same time! Been working with the business manager to write a new rolling replacement plan into the budget....
  24. I've got HP switching/servers/san/desktops/printers and Ruckus WiFi in the temporary classrooms and will just be moving it over to the new build and double the amount of switches!!
  25. As said i would do the letter and put a copy on line manager/business manager/heads desk or all 3! and also email them to say what you have done that and maybe attach a copy of the letter. You could put read receipts on the email as well so you can see if someone has read it. I personally have the mobile number for all of SLT so i would call the head to inform him as well. Failing all of that you could let the chair of govs know. I believe there was a similar topic regarding this last year as well!
