VMWare is supposed to support OpenCL/CUDA via VT-x, which according to the Intel website your CPU supports; do you have the option to enable it in BIOS? The dock is the same style as Mac OS but the other elements are very much *nix staples (don't forget, Mac OS' are *nix based, though somewhat removed from Linux at this point). A lot of Linux distros ended up going the Windows route because it was familiar, but now a fair few are going their own way or back to their roots EDIT: watched more of the video and there are more than a few similarities to OSX to be fair; Apple mustn't have managed to patent window layouts yet!

If Chrome is really that slow for you, I reckon you have a dodgy extension installed. Try disabling them all and seeing if it's quicker, then re-enable them one-by-one until you find the one that makes it crawl again. I must admit, Chrome isn't the fastest mainstream browser any more IMO, I think Firefox wins that one, but overall I find Chrome the most pleasant to use. Anything is better than IE.

The danger in these situations is that rather than getting the best person for the job, we get the one who ticks the most political boxes. For a long time in Sandwell (ended within the last 10 years), every LA job bulletin had as a footnote "we are particularly seeking black, disabled women as we are under-represented in this area." Can't we just employ people because they're good at the job and ignore [within reason] everything else?

I totally agree that respect is earned and not a right (in fact I was considered a "problem" child at school for pointing this amongst other things out!) . Your school's circumstances are quite different to others and I respect that, however I do think that in a lot of schools using some sort of formal title when addressing your superiors* instils a certain level of respect in that it reinforces the notion that this person is in charge, they're not one of your peers so you probably shouldn't talk to them like one. I'm not saying that students will automatically lose respect for their teachers simply because they don't address them by title, but it blurs the line between "authoritative figure" and "peer", which can in turn make it very difficult to discipline children when necessary as they don't have the pre-conceived notion of authority. Of course all children are different but the sad thing is, I think things like this need to be thought of in terms of how the disrespectful children will see it, the respectful ones will remain respectful either way... * before I get a barrage of "what makes you think you're superior" posts, I'm talking strictly in an authoritarian context here and in no way implying that I/adults are superior human beings!

It was exactly the same here, until a member of SLT called me by my first name in front of all the kids so I responded in kind... not to be awkward, but it does eat away at the respect the students have for us; if they're not expected to call us by title, as they have to with teachers, they surmise that we mustn't be as important as the teachers. Needless to say, she always calls me "Sir/Mr" in front of kids now!

I'm just imagining is now, kids calling out "Dave" in class rather than "Sir", or "Julie" instead of "Miss". If you're called Richard or Fanny, your life in a school will be hell. Then of course there are names they can call out obscenities and claim they said your name, much to the amusement of the rest of the class I'm sure... I just can't see how using first names is going to do anything but break down the respect.

Agreed! I didn't realise until a few months back when my Gold account expired and I didn't renew (don't play the Xbox any more). Was fuming! Then you go online and face a load of fanboys telling you "of course you have to pay, Microsoft aren't going to give you internet on the Xbox for free, it's not free on your PC!" As for Kinect: This feels like a knee-jerk reaction from MS I have to say. Yeah, they're a little behind the PS4 ATM and yes, it's a less powerful machine. What they should have done IMO is stuck to their guns RE the Kinect and gave devs some incentive to really work with it, get them making great games for the Kinect instead of the usual Wii rip offs and make it a selling point. Now all they've done is doom Kinect 2 to the same fate as the original Kinect; an overpriced toy you can't even sell because it's useless. Now all they're left with is a less powerful machine and the same* range of games. Doesn't take a genius to work out Sony have already won... *apart from exclusives, of which none are going to sway many people over to the XB1 so far

Does calling female teacher's Miss really encourage "the prejudices of the previous generation"? I'm sure to the kids it's a sign of respect, nor prejudice, when they call a teacher "Miss" - it's a title rather than an insult, which is as much as you can ask from some teenagers!

As @smidsy said, GRUB will do it. Most likely* no need to do any manual tinkering either, just install Windows first (remembering to leave space for other OS) then a Linux distro, vast majority of them (certainly Debian based i.e. Debian, Ubuntu, Mint) will detect Windows and offer automatically add a boot entry in to GRUB for you. EDIT: just for clarity, GRUB is a boot loader similar to BCD (Windows' boot loader) but much more configurable. It's the default boot loader installed by many of the most popular Linux distros * as with anything IT related and particularly *nix, be prepared to get your Google-fu going if something doesn't go exactly to plan!
