  1. Hi guys, I am trying to use the following logon script; IF %COMPUTERNAME:~0,3%==IT- rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /q /in /n "\\appsserver\ICTLaser" IF %COMPUTERNAME:~0,3%==S5- rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /q /in /n "\\appsserver\S5Laser" IF %COMPUTERNAME:~0,6%==MEDIA- rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /q /in /n "\\appsserver\MediaLaser" rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /q /in /n "\\appsserver\AdminLaser" IF %COMPUTERNAME:~0,8%==LIBRARY- rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /q /in /n "\\appsserver\LibraryLaser" IF %COMPUTERNAME:~0,11%==TECHNOLOGY- rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /q /in /n "\\appsserver\TechnologyLaser" IF %COMPUTERNAME:~0,12%==LEARNINGSUP- rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /q /in /n "\\appsserver\S5Laser" rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /q /in /n "\\appsserver\StaffLaser" IF %COMPUTERNAME:~0,10%==GEOGRAPHY- rundll32 printui.dll PrintUIEntry /q /in /n "\\appsserver\S5Laser" This works great and installs the required printer based on the PC name that the user is logging on to. The only problem is that there is a 'installing printer' box. I would prefer it to install silently so that the pupils do not click on cancel. Can anyone help?
  2. Thank you for your quick response. The screen on the laptop is fine, I have just tried plugging it into a standard tft monitor, no success. I suspect you could be right about the vga port. It did work fine for months until last week. I feel like I have tried everything!
  3. Hi Guys, I have got a problem with one Dell D520. Every time I try to use it with a projector, it fails to display the image. 'No signal recieved' is all I get. I have set the output to 'dual display' and it still does not work. I have tried flicking through the outputs for all devices (FN + f8) with no joy, as well as installing the latest video drivers. I tried formatting the drive and reinstalling Windows, as well as updating the BIOS. Has anyone experienced this or can suggest anything else I can try? Thanks in advance, DGardner
  4. Thanks for the quick response Plexer, where am I looking in the web interface to configure it? I can't find any power options. How do you secure yours? Do you use backup software or anything like that?
  5. Hi Folks, Has anyone had any joy setting up a Terastation with a UPS battery? Any tips? Many thanks, David
  6. Hi Guys, We have purchased the above weatherstation for Geography and am having big problems accessing the WV32 activeviewer which accesses the weather view 32 server, has anyone else installed one of these? The support is in the US and has been pretty abysmal. Many thanks, David
  7. If Andy doesn't get them how about Preston to Carlisle?
  8. Hi Mate, I have just carried out this task last week, and I have to say I was very suprised how smooth the process was. I tried to migrate to new hardware and keep the same servername but this gave me all kinds of problems. The best way is to put a clean install of server 2003 on the new hardware, install exchange on additional server (so you can see both servers in exchange system manager), move mailboxes to the new server, copy IIS settings and server settings in esm so both are identical. Agree a time with ISP for them to make a dns entry so OWA points to the new url. Shut down old server and use old server ip address. Leave old server off for a few days then decommision. I found this very useful; http://expertanswercenter.techtarget.com/eac/expertAnswer/0,295208,sid63_gci1203603,00.html Hope this helps, Dave Gardner
  9. I tell a lie, it is in fact 15gb. We are running a few applications on it too. It is not dangerously low yet, down to 1gb. I'd like to get it done before the summer hols.
  10. Wow! that exactly what I was after, thank you very much. I will let you know how I get on next week.
  11. I have a version of Symantec Ghost, has anybody carried this out in the past? What steps would you take with the software? partition to disk then back again? We are running quite a few applications on it and it would be quite messy to move stuff from it onto another drive. I really don't fancy restoring from backup if I can avoid it, Thanks for your advice everyone, P.S. lovelldr - If you could let me know exactly how you did this with Ghost I will be very gratefull.
  12. Help! I have a windows server 2003 installation on a 20gb partition, on a 73gb sczzi drive. It is a dynamic disk. I have ran out of space on my c partiton and have no data on the rest of that drive. I have thought about third party software, but can't find anything that really convinces me it is the one to use. Has anyone experienced this and how did you solve it? I really want to avoid wiping and reinstalling if possible. Thanks again everyone!
  13. Hi Steve, We have found a solution to the problem. We are currently testing three different monitoring software, securus, policy central and impero. Impero has the ability to disable per user applications. Whenever the user with no internet access opens one of the online help articles they immedietely get a popup informing them of the restrictions. I have to say, in my experience this is the best monitoring software available. Thanks anyway, David
  14. Hi Guys, I have a big problem. If we have a problematic pupil in our school, we remove internet access. We control this through a 'no internet' organizational unit in AD and a group policy on windows server 2003 by disabling iexplore.exe and having incorrect proxy settings in the group policy. Unfortunately, they have found several ways round this. They can get in through online help in programmes on the start menu, such as: real player, any office program, outlook express, winzip, adobe 8, windows defender, pro desktop and sophos. They have only just worked this out so I need to sort it out ASAP. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, David Gardner IT Technician Beaconhill School
