Yeah, I've applied for our school to be part of the testing group and submitted my app. It also looks like only nexus 7's as well but I'm sure this will change, fast.

What great news for education at this years Google IO. As soon as they mentioned we would be getting a dedicated store, that helps deploy and buy apps using a purchase order and allows teachers to recommend apps, I thought great This is going to give android a big and much need plus in the education market as at the moment, I do not currently link my devices to the Play Store, which will soon hopefully change.

Great news.... If it's 7.5 hours at the price of getting in a tech company maybe you can say you'll get almost double that by actually employing someone. If not one day a week is much better then spreading it out. When I worked 2 x 3.5 hours at a school all i was doing was finding out what had gone wrong and fixing them, always had to stay a little late which really wasn't ideal. I now do another school and its 1 full day. I get to fix the problems if there are any, and then look at moving the school forward. This is the bit that normally gets left, technology breaks we all know that but their use becomes stagnant with in the school. If you get a good tech, they'll also be able to help with improving the staffs confidence and using the technology in other ways rather then just buy and replace. (My opinion) Also have a look at other local schools, I'm employed full time by one but as I am wanted by a couple the head "pimps" me out. It's a bargain rate for the other school. Saves my current school money in tough times and I get to not always be in one place. It may be you employ a cluster technician and then if an emergency happens at yours they can juggle some hours around to get it fixed.

Hi all, A little while ago I started releasing the first few versions of my app eduDroid which is aimed only at android. Thanks for all those that have provided feedback. I am now almost at the end of BETA releasing version 0.9 yesterday and getting my website up together. I also have the server side of it to allow you to manage the app with in the school environment. I would be greatful if anyone can help test this feature within your own environments. This includes a printing system using LPR. and would be great if this could also be explored by setting up once admin, and for finger tapping in the millionaire game. eduDroid.co.uk - android in education for this and please message me or email [email protected] for the password to the zip file https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.bigfishstudios.eduDroid Thanks to you all for your continued support. on another note if you are an international school please let me know if you can download from the playstore. It should be open to all of the english stores. Jamie

Have you got any further with this? I want to print to all my printers or nominate one. They aren't cloud printers either and although I have chrome I don't want to go down that route

RuAware replied to pooley's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
we use... eduDroid if your near the Portsmouth area please get in contact and have a visit to our school. Yes it's an app I wrote but allows for all your android devices to be linked and sharing of websites, teacher created content etc. -
Hi All, I've finally released my BETA version of my app that we have running on 80 android devices here in network mode. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.bigfishstudios.eduDroid Website is eduDroid.co.uk - android in education (still very basic site) I will be releasing the download to enable you guys to put network mode on your servers in the next couple of weeks. You don't need this to use it but it it turns on Voting Pad and allows teachers to create own content. Have a play an let me know what you think or would like to see. I have a massive list of requests I am working through. (main one is to change the menu). Jamie

[sims] [SIMS] Formating Excel Date as DDMMYY or how ever you wish
RuAware posted a topic in MIS Systems
I thought I would share as I couldn't find an up to date instructions on how to do this. Test in Office 2010 and 2013 So in report add Date of Birth field and export to Excel and run. 1/ Select all the DOB's and right click and "Format Cells" 2/ Click on "Date" to pick a pre defined option or custom and enter ddmmyy in the box 3/ press ok (You'll notice nothing happens) 4/ with the fields selected press "Data" tab 5/ Press "Text to Columns" a wizard will appear 6/ Pick "Delimited" -> "Next" -> "Next" -> Make sure "General" is selected -> "Finish" You will see all the Dates change to the formats you put in. Hope this helps and also shows up in google search -
Moodle - Remove 'teacher' name from course
RuAware replied to j_the_geek's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
you can rename it under the Role renaming settings for that course. is that what you mean? -
Hi, As its friday and i'm in a good mood I thought i'd share something that I wrote for my teachers a while ago which they find use when using the easi Speak Pro Microphone. but it may should be easily adapted to your model or device. What it does! Teacher plugs in mic clicks on script It first looks for the folder E:\Mic_rec if its not ther trys f: and G: Once found it makes a directory in the users Music folder saying "From Microphones" - > Todays date -> microphone number i.e. 1 it then copies all the mp3 recorded items on the microphone and puts them in that folder It the deletes them from the microphone. Teacher unplugs and runs the script again placing all items in 2 then 3 etc... This makes doing a class worth of microphones quick and eay whilst leaving them wipped ready for the next user. If you have one of these and want to try it download from this link http://www.edudroid.co.uk/CopyFromMics.zip hope it makes sense and helps people. Jamie

[android] Android tablets for schools, how does the Market work?

Seems like it really dosn't like wild cards. I manually edited the ipconfig.txt file with *'s, and re-uploaded it. causing it to remove the proxy all together so i've had to go back to a list of addresses. Is yours picking up the correct dns? if not have you triple checked the address in proxy, i have no http:// just moodle.langstone-jun.portsmouth.sch.uk and this is working fine with the whole moodle with the Browser and any WebViews i have created in my own app. Glad you found the setting though -
[android] Android tablets for schools, how does the Market work?

i had the same problem, well a couple actually, give me a minute i'll see if it will except it using this script i'm writing. i'll go and get a tablet, it's on my list of things to try. My other problem was, the school uses a "-" in the web address causing it to crash ICS, this also happend on my transformer prime, so i know it's not a cheap tablet thing. Way round this is to type in the exceptions first and then add the proxy ip/address after. -

[android] Android tablets for schools, how does the Market work?
RuAware replied to nLinked's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
yup, at the moment i'm using futeko.com - Eken T01 speak directly and get cheap delivery etc. have not found anything it can't handle, bought 1 for myself to start testing my app and the headteacher was that impressed she bought one. used them with the children first. Ok so the screen resolution isn't great, and it only has 512mb ram (so does the ipad2!!) but we are talking about mobile java programming! it really is allthe children at this age need. -
[android] Android tablets for schools, how does the Market work?
RuAware replied to nLinked's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
After listening to apple fans!! which we all know are over priced and would require me to buy a mac if I had more than 5 ipads! (itunes does not allow more than 5 devices on windows) I have decided to write me own app for android to work in the KS1 and KS2 sectors. (more on that when i'm almost ready to release it) I came across the settings issue. We are buying 70 andorid ICS devices which are £54 ex vat each. How do I set them all up, install the latest flash and any other program I want without activating the google account. So today I have written a script...almost finish The idea: 1/you set up your first tablet/device with wifi settings, homepage, download the apks you want to a folder on windows computer ie Flash, MyApp. 2/ turn to devolper usb 3/ download the settings of your main device. 4/ plug in each device, hit Install and job done! I am working with ICS as it's the only one with native proxy support. Our children love them and you know what, they are not bothered they arent iPads. They have internet, educationcity and myApp at there finger tips. not to mention any other app i choose to install. If you think the scripts will be useful to anyone, pm and you can be my testers before i release them to everyone. Hope this helps Jamie -

I am trying to create an auto script to dump a rtf on the network that shows all children not in school when the report is run. I have created the report in reports using Attendance Marks Is not Present Mark Date As filters Running it is fine and gives me the result i want either using sims or the command reporting tool. Running through sims - i can change the date at prompt for "Mark Date" But i need to tell the command reporting tool to use the current date on run. Anyone know how i can do this? Thank you Jamie
