  3. Does anyone else suffer with constant spam from this company? Having looked back, we have recieved marketing email from them since 2011. At some points in the past we have requested quotes, so I didnt mind the occasional email, but they started to get more frequent and to multiple members of the team. We then started a policy of simply replying to each email with a request to be removed from their mailing list. This had no effect. On the 23rd of last month I got very annoyed, and replied to an email they had sent copying in every email adress they had posted on their website. I got a reply later that day from their scheduling manager appologising, and informing me they were now removing all of our email adresses. All then went quiet until this Wednesday when they started emailing a member of my team again!!! I can't see any way to stop them now! Maybe I should start emailing them every day! Steve
  4. Well done to them both, nice to have a happy news story to read at lunch!
  5. Probably best to have it as part of the procedure that someone manually calls anyway? There is always a chance that an automated system wont work, even when the phone lines are up. Better that you call and they confirm they are on their way than you wait on the assumption that the system has already called them and ring ten minutes later when they haven't turned up. We moved our automated fire system over to the same phone line as the building alarm recently to save money, assumed all was fine until a child triggered the fire alarm. Ten minutes later I got a call on my mobile (i'm on the call out list) from the alarm company to say that they had recieved notification of a triggered fire alarm, but couldn't call the fire brigade as they didn't have the number! Steve
  6. And the mac address table size on that particular switch is 4k.....
  7. It might be the cabling isn't up to it, which may have caused it to constantly re-negotiate the link speed. Forcing it to stay at one speed would most likely resolve this, you may drop a few packets but this wouldn't normally be noticable over a gig link. Is all the infrastructure cable cat 5e at least? Steve
  8. If this is still available I would love it for one of my schools please!
  9. 42p for 10 or more from cpc. Steve
  10. The smart guidelines are in their install guide http://downloads01.smarttech.com/media/sitecore/en/support/product/smartboards-fpd/600sbd600series/guides/guidesb600_d600v19mar10.pdf But they are just guides, as long as whoever uses it can safely reach it we'll install it at any height. Highest one i've ever seen was aprox 2.5m to the bottom of the board! (was being used as a (very expensive) projector screen in a hall) Steve
  11. Sent one of my team on the training course for it, and based on their feedback from the course we didnt sign up..... Dont want to be more specific, as i havent had a good play with it myself, although we're currently helping another school that did sign up for it migrate to an alternative... Steve
  12. We used some stm skinny ones for the ipads the kids use - fitted in our charging trolley fine and provided good protection. Ordered the Apple covers for some staff ones, but they just seem to be clip on ones to cover the screen, no real protection if its dropped. steve
  13. Has them being Gay got anything to do with it though? At the end of the article it states that they apply the same rules to all non married couples. Is it discrimatory to not allow any non married couple the use of a double room? I think its a tough one to call. It could be argued that the government discrimates against non married couples with various tax benefits that have been around for married couples? It starts to become a difficult line - discrimination against someone for being gay? Clearly wrong. Being black? Clearly wrong. Refusing use of a room because you aren't married? not sure. Forcing someone to ignore their religious views? Also not sure. Steve
  14. Its fairly pointless to have the redundancy of 2 power supplies and then connect them both to the same device which can fail. Ideally you want 2 ups's although most of the time this isn't possible so we normally go one psu into ups and the other into a surge protector off the mains. Steve
  15. Do you have a lot of staff? Maybe EES would work out cheaper? - You can buy just the office licences on EES if you want, you dont need the full os and cal bundle. Steve
  16. We normally go to ebuyer or Misco, they always have the cheapest prices first time. Have emailed Millgate and a lot of the other smaller suppliers, but they consistently loose out on pricing. Occasionally you can push them to get slightly better pricing, but we dont have the time to negotiate on every single order. The services we get from Misco is excellent (and ok ish from ebuyer) that we've never had a need to go elsewhere. Steve
  17. We normally take the video, copy it to dvd, return dvd to teacher and keep the video locked away. As I see it we purchased 1 copy of the video, they still have 1 copy of the video, and we have a backup should their copy be damaged. Steve
  18. There doesn't seem to be an iPad version, so doesn't look great but seems to work though. One of my jobs for tomorrow is to order a site licence for the school. Seems to be a good way of licensing it, app is free, backend stuff it connects to has a licence that you can buy in the usual way. Steve
  19. How about using po-motion and a webcam? no idea how well it works though, only used it for an interactive floor before. Steve
  20. We use the local version and have done for 5 plus years now. Never had a single issue with it, and stopped paying for the support 3 or 4 years ago. Didn't bother with any of the clever (or not so clever) finger print stuff. Steve
  21. Have a look here BS 1363 Plugs and Sockets Picture on the second row of pictures down shows why they should be failed and replaced. Not sure if its an official part of the regulations, but that picture alone is enough to convince me! Steve
  22. Why dont they make phones with 2 batteries? A tiny one that lasts at most 5 minutes and re-charges it self off the normal battery, and then an easily removable normal battery. Then I can just have 2 or 3 spare batteries and quickly swap them without having to re-start my phone. Steve
  23. It's 6000 hours over 3 years, and thats in normal or eco mode, no restrictions. Also because we got more than ten of them, one of their technicians came out onsite to show us how to use them / basic repairs, and then gave us a free spare - so now if one fails we do a strait swap and then epson pick it up and repair it, so zero downtime. Hadn't really used epson's much in the past, but got to say i'm pretty impressed so far. With regard to the Casio's at the time we installed them it was only the slim ones available, can't really comment on their recent range as we haven't tried them. Steve
  24. Should be 2000 hours a year! - Which gives 10 hours a day, 5 days a week for 40 weeks of the year. We got the first generation of the casio ones, the slim ones. Went for the brightest model that was available at the time, they started off ok but have got dimmer, and are no better value than a normal projector with a good bulb warranty so stopped buying them.
