We are planning to deploy a large number of these devices and are looking to provide the maximum bandwidth possible to each device. At the same time we will be installing a new WIFI network so I am trying to make the two marry up as best as possible. When we start having full class sets all trying to access video I would expect the additional bandwidth and ability to connect to the greater number of channels 5ghz has to offer to become very important.

Thanks for this, the trouble is those cards need the antennas to be part of the netbook in order to function properly so it's more than just swapping a mini PCI card. So far netbooks I can identify that have true dual band 802.11n 2.4/5ghz radios installed at the point of purchase are:- RM ASUS Minibook (Asus don't appear to offer a model of the same spec direct) RM Minibook (only offers a 3 and a 1/2 hour battery life) Sony Vaio W Dell Latitude 2100/2110 HP Mini 5102 Stone N105 As far as I am aware there are no other devices but I would be happily proved wrong!
-
Hello, Does anyone know of any netbooks with proper built in dual band radios (a,b,g,n), the only device I can find that seems to come close is the Dell Latitude 2100 (2x1), the information manufacturers provide about the WIFI cards in their devices is nothing short of shocking. Any pointers would be welcomed. Kind regards, Richard

We are very new to Moodle, but thanks to Ian Tasker of SchoolsICT.com have a read only link from SIMS which creates courses and assigns all the correct staff and students to the relevant classes when they first logon, and if class membership changes this is updated accordingly as well.

I may have missed something, has the updated server version of SIMS Mobile been installed as well? The 3.2 SIMS Mobile server side needs to be updated alongside the main SIMS November release. If you dont have the server updates I suspect you will struggle. From experience I have found the clients still work on an earlier release of the Pocket PC SIMS Mobile but the server had been updated to the SIMS Mobile 3.2 release. I think it best you give [email protected] a mail and they can send you the new CD release.
-
cescab.cab is the name of the Pocket PC application installer
-
The simsconfig.xml file on the PPC should not need updating, the cab file is 2.15mb. Also on the server the SIMS mobile configuration application has to be run once to update the APIs before things will work properly, this has to be done after each new SIMS release is installed. Make sure you can log into the SIMS Mobile web server from the Pocket PC to make sure you don't need any proxy exceptions or the like as well.
-
The newest version of the Pocket PC app is 2.0.3226 as far as i'm aware. There should be an updated cescab.cab for the clients included in the newest release media. Either run this on the pocket pc by copying the file via activesync or from an SD card then launching from file explorer and it will upgrade the previous version

I assume the EINC device must have an IP address, can it be pinged? I would also guess it might have it's own web interface like the excite units, could the config have become corrupted and may need reinputting?
-
ok I see the EINC interfaces your BMS network with your ethernet LAN. I would suggest contacting Trend direct. I suspect the issue is more down to the fact the heating and controls firm you use are lacking on the ICT side of things, this is often the case with this type of thing. Trend are part of the Honeywell group and can be contacted here:- Trend

We have a couple of IQE 3xact unit which are plugged directly into our LAN and sit on their own VLAN, each accessed via a web interface. You can use the 963 software to manage more than one unit at a time but as far as getting them to work we haven't had any problems, do you access them via a web interface as well?

just an idea but we are exploring the idea of putting the computer feed into a slingbox and then adding a slingcatcher to a screen somewhere else on campus as this would allow the feed to run over the network infrastructure, especially useful if you don't have point to point network wiring in place.

you can control Avaya IP hardphones using the IP softphone application. Do you have licences for this?

Let this posting be a warning to all, the grass although it may initially appear so is not always greener. Around the time of the SIMS .net conversion we were thinking of jumping ship but despite significant research into alternative products came to the conclusion no other product was able to deliver what we were able to do at the time using SIMS. Since those fraught days of conversion SIMS has improved significantly and is a very strong product. I am not saying it is perfect but I have yet to see another MIS able to deliver all the functionality of SIMS. Richard
