Buying an SLR Camera: What accessories should I get?
Busybub replied to Rydra's topic in General Chat
If you don't know why you need something, you don't need it, especially if you've never shot a wedding, with a brand new camera. Take the instruction manual with you and learn what it won't do, before adding anything else into the mix. Only things I would buy is a spare battery and a bag to put everything in (unless you already have one). -
Please don't mention NXT again, it hurts - should have bought Verity Group shares when they were a penny each; they topped out at £16.50ish...

Nah, you want one of these: Linn Sondek CD12 CD Player | Stereophile.com *drool*

I've had: Marantz CD52, Rotel 920AX, Mission 760i Marantz CD52, Arcam Delta 290, Mission 760i Arcam D250 and BB50, Arcam Delta 290, Mission 760i Arcam D250 and BB50, Delta 290/290P, KEF 103/4 Arcam D250 and BB50, Naim 102/180, KEF 103/4. Cyrus DAD3, 3i, Tannoy 605 in a second system. Naim CDS, Naim 102/180, KEF 103/4 Naim CDS, 52/250, KEF 103/4 Naim CDS, 52/250, KEF LS3/5A Naim CDS, Musical Fidelity NuVista, KEF LS3/5A. (best system I ever had) Still have the Cyrus and LS3/5As but they've been boxed for years. Do most of my listening with a pair of Stax 202 headphones. Never work in a hifi shop - you get to try too many toys and you inevitably end up buying lots of it... Forgot, also have an Arcam D280 tuner somewhere, MF DVD1, a Marantz CD recorder whose model number escapes me, had two Aiwa cassette decks aeons ago and a Sony one with Dolby S. Been through 4 Sony WM-D6Cs too, and it'll still show an ipod a clean pair of heels! Think I have a Pioneer laserdisc player in the parents loft...

Overhead video projector too bright - Teacher complains!

Send her out to get an eye test, and supply her with a pair of polarised glasses. Will reduce glare and cut the amount of light hitting her eyes. -
Got a couple of A1 and Topaz amps, not had a problem so far. Infinitely better than the Vision ones we had which are expiring one after the other with leaking capacitors and blown fuses. Also got a Teac, and Tangent amp which uses electronically stepped volume, no more crackling issues, but sound-wise they are all much of a muchness at this level. That said, I've stopped buying these as they take up a lot of space, and started going for something smaller like the NuVo and Sahara amps which fit into single-gang back boxes you can mount onto a wall. Nuvos cost about the same and they include the speakers.

Guidelines for Projector Quality
Busybub replied to Iain.Faulkner's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Think it would only take a teacher to claim health and safety risks (or your own risk assessment) to make it a replacement issue, especially if they claim it is affecting their sight (squinting?), or if lights out would hinder evacuation in the event of a fire. Of course, there is a practical difference between darkness and complete darkness, one might be acceptable, the other probably not. Not sure that display screen equipement regs come into play (as it refers to backlit devices such as LCDs or CRTs) though you could certainly draw parallels and make a case based on them. -
Already is. Option is greyed out as it has already been disabled in user config/admin templates/desktop, and control panel

Recommend a camera for a budding hobbyist photographer?
Busybub replied to LosOjos's topic in General Chat
One of these: X-Rite ColorMunki Photo (CMUNPH) - Warehouse Express Not cheap, but cheaper than Gretag Macbeth, will profile your monitor and printer. Otherwise, if that's too much, best bet is to print your stuff through somebody who provides a profile pic you can manually calibrate against. Peak Imaging do this, you can download the test picture and have them print one off and send it to you for comparison. -
Gave that a go on a test account and even though the option is there it has no effect. Already set a background and diabled changes.
-
Don't suppose anybody has experience of how students are able to change the background when it has been specified in policy and prevent changing background has been enabled? Haven't had a problem with this in 6 years and came in today to find that one of the little darlings changed the background to a picture of a man being set on fire, which disappeared when the computer was restarted.

You need a hardware profiler, something like a color munki should do both monitor and printer -
Widescreen aspect ratio with projector and IWB

Other option is to reuse your old 4:3 monitors as secondary screens. Set up the new computers to run an extended desktop, and have the second display signal go into a splitter feeding the projectors and your old monitors. -

Not personally (I'm a Sony user), but a friend of mine has bought a 5D, 1DII, 1DSII, 70-200/2.8 and a few other bits. Has also sold through them as well. Other places to look would be apertureuk and ffordes, though the latter tend to be on the pricier side. -

Finance may end up costing you a lot more depending on what sort of deal you can find. A casual look has warehouseexpress at 29% apr, or interest free for the first 6 months only. If you're that hard up, A Canon 10D can be had for as little as 140, a kit lens for 50 (mpbphotographic.co.uk). That will tide you over for a while. You can then add a 50/1.8 for 30 quid, though i would personally look for a 35/f2 -

I'd buy a second hand Canon 20D or 30D and borrow some lenses. If you get bored of it, you can flog the camera for pretty much what you bought it for. If you get serious about it, by trying out your grandads lenses you'll know which ones you want for yourself. -
570ish kids and around 70-odd staff on 3 sites. Just me.

As Damien mentioned, AB Tutor v6 will do keyword monitoring with screendumps (or video recording) which you set as a policy. A second policy can monitor activity on the computer including applications used, websites visited, logons, and keystrokes. Works brilliantly for us, and cheap as chips too.

Smart Unifi 35 not responding to remote control
Busybub replied to Busybub's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Thanks Marc, tried a few remotes including a brand new one with same results though they work elsewhere. I don't doubt that this is a very rare fault, but this is a Unifi we're talking about, nothing would surprise me... think the general experience of those on here is pretty poor where this thing is concerned, and repair quotes seem to be astronomical (more than the unit cost new), so wouldn't expect any realistic quotes for a repair. Looks like a replacement is on the cards... Cheers! -
Another Unifi 35 thread... One of ours isn't responding to remote signals. Have tried all the usual stuff, powered off from switch, different remote and batteries. It's having none of it. Anybody else had a similar problem? Seen some other threads on repair costs *ouch* and would prefer to avoid!

I used to have servers called Morpheus, Neo, Trinity, Cypher, Oracle, Ghost, Architect... then a change of management spoiled my fun

Sounds like you have fast logon enabled, so other settings are still applying in the background once your users first get on. Set your workstations: Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\ Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon (enabled)
