Go for a DLP projector instead of LCD. Generally these don't have filters because they don't need them, and tend to last longer. The only drawback is the colour reproduction from a DLP projector can be very poor, although some are better than others so choose carefully!

The logs from the AP appear to indicate a sucessful connection, as do the IAS logs. Thanks for mentioning fast re-connect, I have got this turned on at the moment, but might try switching it off on my test laptop and see if this improves things at all - I hadn't thought of this. As far as I'm aware I am using the latest IOS release from Cisco, but their website is so difficult to navigate, it's hard to work out if I have got the latest one.

Having just re-designed our wireless system, I appear to have in-advertantly made the system a little less reliable than it was already. Previously we had a basic system using WEP encryption and a stupidly easy encryption key. Obviously this had to change. We have Cisco 1200 series access points, so they are fairly good and are of course capable of using RADIUS for authentication, so this is what I've done. Firstly updating the firmware on on them all to the latest version from the CISCO website, and then first experiementing with two access points getting them working on RADIUS. This all went well, I was able to roam between the two of them quickly, and everything worked well. I rolled out the new GPO for the wireless policy, then waited a month before slowly switching all my APs to the newly designed policy, testing each one as I went. Everything worked well, or so I thought. Now I've run into some problems. Since changing this over, there are major problems with users roaming around the building. When a laptop is used in one location it all seems to work well with no problems at all. As soon as you pick it up and walk, sometimes it will roam OK. Most of the time however it will sit there and say it's connected, but when you try pinging a server or callling data up from the network nothing happens. Even if you do a repair, it still won't talk to the network, even thou the wireless reports it is connected and has received an IP number etc. A total re-start however and the laptop connects flawlessly. This is driving me nuts! Any one got any ideas what might be causing this? Many thanks, Mike.

As the event is a public event, there is no law a such preventing you taking photographs and publishing them however you please. However a majority of people seem to think such laws do exist and sometimes people will object to being in photographs, although as a public event strictly speaking you are doing nothing wrong, it would be the same as you taking the photograph on the street there is no law preventing you from doing this, unless it becomes harrasment. For this reason and for reason of not bringing the school name into dis-repute with any possible problems that may arise, I would display signs at the main entrance to the fete informing people that photographs are being taken and that they will be published on the school website. I would also suggest wearing a flourescent wastcoat to give you some look of authority, that way with camera in hand people will indentify you as the 'official' photographer and will probably avoid you if they don't want to be in photos. What might be stopping it running from the start menu is the shortcut itself, as the exention .lnk is counted as an executable. I believe shortcuts in the userprofile are allowed by default, but I'm not sure about the 'all users' profile which is where the shortcut is stored for paint by default, so it could be that the shortcuts in the all users profile are blocked. Try creating a new shortcut to paint as a user, and I think you'll find it will run if the shortcut is in a location that allows executables. Mike.

Took me about 2 weeks off and on to get it working with my Cisco 1200 series access points. Rolled the change out last week to all our acess points (after waiting for a month more on the old system to ensure all the laptops have picked up the new group policiy) So far only problem I've had is one set of laptops that had an additional wireless utility installed that didn't seem to like RADIUS, apart from that it was flawless. Googler here, need to know basis. My most recent one was setting up Wireless access points using RADIUS and IAS on server 2003. I'm fairly good thou as when I find the right information it gets printed off and filed in a documentation folder. That way if I need to fix a problem, or something goes wrong or I need to repeat the same work again, I've got the right instructions on-hand.

Thanks for the responses. We're an academy school, so don't get support from the LEA unless we buy it in, which I'm not that keen to do as I think we can do better than that. The network will be pretty bog standard windows server 2008 based, nothing unusual and of course will be fully documented as we build it. I like the idea of Technet Plus, that could come in handy for other things as well as providing us with access to additional support, so I might investigate that option as well as the companies elsiegee40 has PM'd me. I think the business manager just needs to make sure these questions are answered, as if there were problems in the future (not that I think there will be) then as he is responsible for me it could be him being held to task as well as me, so I can't blame him for raising the issue. We are at the stage where we have to decide what direction we are going to take with our network as our current setup needs drastic change, so we are going all out and changing the entire domain for a new one this summer. However we have yet to decide if this is going to be RM or another company coming in and designing the system for us, or our favoured option of an in-house constructed solution. We have the skills in house to build a functional network which will meet the schools needs, but the main objection from the business manager and others (and it's a perfectally reasonable one) is what happens if we get a major problem that's beyond our skill level, and what happens if there's long term sickness of key team members, who do we call on? So does anyone know if it's possible to get a third party to provide some form of on call support for a network that is designed and primerilly maintained in-house? Many thanks, Mike.
