  1. That works, running either way. And that looks a useful link - thank you.
  2. I think I must do, I thought I'd deleted 2.7 but it doesn't seem to have gone.
  3. I don't know if you can see, but the 2 windows at the top are running in IDLE and at the bottom I've just run the text file using the python launcher and it hasn't worked. - - - Updated - - - and I got your + name version to work with the addition of some brackets.
  4. No, that didn't work at all. I've discovered that if I use IDLE and run the program within IDLE then it works, but if I run it in the Terminal then it doesn't. Not sure what that means probably something wrong with the way I have python setup
  5. We are hoping to use python in our new curriculum so I am trying to get familiar with it. I've set up a text editor, and installed python 3.4 on my mac, and am working through a 'teach yourself python' course. and I've fallen at the second hurdle. The first program was print(“Hello, World”) That worked so I tried the 2nd program name = input("What is your name? ") print("Hello,",name) It looks straightforward enough but I always get this error. Im at a complete loss
  6. Actually just had a thought, we moved to Chrome recently, does Ranger Report Manager only check IE?
  7. I very occasionally use Ranger Report Manager to check up on what someone has been viewing online. I used it in January and it worked fine. I've tried to use it today, and no matter what I search for it returns no results. Even if I search for everything that happened in the last week, with no specific parameters, it returns no results. I've no idea where to even look to try and fix it, or if I can reinstall it? I've not got Ranger Support as I so rarely use it.

joe.bloggs or joe.bloggs1 for duplicates. they have enough trouble remembering that, I can't imagine the chaos with a random number!
  9. We had this debate last year, and ended up buying a mixture of iPads and Chromebooks. We also have a Windows 7 ict suite, so a full range of technologies mixed together. It works very well. We used Google Docs already and that has increased since we got the Chromebooks. The staff and students are now very familiar with sharing documents with each other, and returning work via a shared document. The chromebooks rarely cause me any grief beyond a forgotten password. It did take us quite a few days to set them up, but I think this was due to something in school blocking them from registering with google. In the end I took them home, registered them all, and brought them back into school and have had no more issues with them at all. You need to buy into the management console and then you can set up printers etc relatively easily, although we do more online and less printing than we did. The iPads are a pain in the neck, but very popular with staff and students. I've tried Meraki and Lightspeed but we ended up buying a Mac Mini and managing them all using Apple Configurator. That works fine for us, as we only have one trolley full and I can connect the trolley to the Mac. It wouldn't work if you had 100s.
  10. We do have a reasonably good folder structure. One folder per year, and then each folder within that is labeled with the activity and the year group. Although there are lots of activities that cross yeargroups - yesterday's World Book Day photos will need to be kept for 4 years, so that when the current year 5s are leaving in Year 8 we can show photos of how cute they were dressed up in Year 5. However, there are also lots of staff also have photos in their personal folders and on iPads etc which aren't kept centrally.
  11. We take a vast number of photographs in school, and I try and keep them organised my school year, and year group. I have had some success with name-tagging using Picasa which is really useful when we do leavers assemblies and the Yearbook, but it doesn't cope well when I remove old photographs, leaving me with 100s of kids in my 'Persons' album who are no longer at school. I'm wondering if anyone else attempts to organise the photographs or if it's a thankless task?
  12. I started in this role 6 years ago. I come from a programming background but I knew nothing about servers or Network Management at all. I have learned a lot from Google and EduGeek. I also found a few colleagues in other schools I could call on for advice.
  13. Thank you! That seems to have done the trick.
  14. I've installed the ADX file, and allowed bookmarks but they disappear each time the user logs off. Is it possible to redirect the bookmark file to their userprofile?
  15. Just to follow on from this, I ended up trialing PupilAsset, DCPro and PPit. PupilAsset did have a couple of mistakes in it, as we were doing things slightly differently to most schools due to being a Middle School, however, they have very quickly corrected them. DCPro and PPit both looked ok, but I was particularly impressed with the response of PupilAsset so I am pretty sure we are going to go with them.
  16. Does anyone use a package or website to track data? We currently use SIMS officially, but in reality we are using a myriad of excel spreadsheets which are all out of sync. I know the common answer on here will be to use SIMS but for various reasons that's not going to work for us. I've looked at PupilAsset, and DCPro, and am also considering building a system in Access but would prefer something online as a lot of staff like to work at home. PupilAsset looks great but it has too many bugs in it, I can't sell this to SLT if there are mistakes in the data. DCPro also looks promising but I'm having trouble getting access to a trial login. We are a middle school, so specific primary or secondary solutions don't work, we need something that covers KS2 and KS3.
  17. The last few nights LanRanger has failed overnight. When staff arrive in the morning they are unable to login which causes mass panic. Rebooting the server resolves the problem, but I'm not sure why it's failing, and why it prevents login when it does. I have posted on the Ranger forums but I'm not sure if they are still monitored since Ranger moved to RM. I've had this error message the last 2 nights, and approx 5 times in the last few months, but it seems to becoming more frequent. 18. I've been having a nightmare with these today. I've been around and installed the drivers on every PC but it still searches for them each time you reattach the Arduino, it finds them quicker the second time but it doesn't seem to recognise them automatically. And I have a feeling it's assigning a new COM port each time we use them. One of the PCs is up to COM6, I don't know if we will hit a problem when it runs out of numbers?
  19. I think I might have solved this. The problem seems to have been the instruction to turn the filter on. When I turned it off, the Keyboard settings appear on the right hand side and I can enable them, and so far I have the correct keyboard. It remains to be seen if everyone else does.
  20. I'm rolling out new Win 7 machines. I set each one up as UK Region, Keyboard etc. And then as soon as I log in as anything other than administrator, they revert back to US keyboards. Users don't have access to the control panel, so they can't change the keyboard back themselves. I've tried setting it via GPO using these instructions http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/11528-gpo-change-language-regional-settings.html but it doesn't seem to have made any difference. Any ideas? It's driving me mad!
  21. My understanding was that they didn't change once they were set. I don't deal with GCSEs but with Key 2 and Key 3, and I've not noticed any changes.
  22. We have a set of Chromebooks, and are all set up with the management console. I want to share some bookmarks, most pressingly Education City which uses a complex URL with our school access built in. I can see how to roll out Apps to a group, but not bookmarks. Anyone done this?
  23. Erase before installing is on the Prepare screen. Can I get to the iPads to say 'don't update', before the update/erase kicks in. I'm wary of connecting them up just in case.
  24. One of our year groups are making videos on the iPads. A few weeks ago I plugged in the trolley and Apple Configurator upgraded them all to ios 7 and deleted all their videos. I've just attached one today, and seen there is another update, and configurator wants to automatically update and erase again. I don't mind updating them (although I'd rather do it at a time of my choosing, then when I just want to add a single app), but I really don't want them to be erased. There is a box which says 'Erase when installing', but I can't untick it in Supervised mode.
  25. I think the scene in the car was after he was finished being the Doctor, so it would have been 1966
