OK - i've tested out the various options but am still at a loss. Wisesoft password control works brilliantly for sorting out individual accounts but the bulk control is seemingly quite unsecure when in the hands of staff as it appears to allow them to enable and disable any account they wish, i dont beleive they could change password without permission but this ability alone could cause all sorts of issues. Taskpad view also appear to work well but would require another OU to be created and giving the users higher level local access before it'll allow them into MMC author mode. The reason (before being asked) for needing bulk control is the introduction of various IT based exams in ICT, Business studies, etc. we've a set of exam accounts that need to be locked and unlocked during exam times, it would make it far easier for the staff running the exams to be able to do this temselves.

I dont think it will as they log in with their own network credentials, so long as the delegation security on the OU is set correctly they shouldn't be able to make any changes to users accounts... They might well be able to see all accounts but not necessarily do anything with them. dont worry it will be rigerously tested first

Hi all, does anyone know of any means of giving certain members of staff the ability to lock, unlock and change password on user accounts? i know that you can deligate under AD but i dont want to give staff access to MMC A web based solution would be preferable Cheers

with the auto mount configured i can access the drive fine on the linux server box but can no longer ssh, browse or even see shares from a remote windows system. if i remove the mount line from fstab and use the disk utility to mount the drive i can then access via ssh and browse share remotely. please excuse my incompetance, i'm slowly getting there

XFS works lovely - thanks. i've been trying to get drive to automount on startup; mount directory created in /media chmod 777 fstab entry made the drive will now automount but i now cannot remotely access the server i assume i'm missing some sort of permissions somewhere?....

Nah i dont want it to be part of the school network, all i want is a basic file server for the ICT kids to mess about on. i'm just after somthing that'll let anyone access it... not fussed what file system it uses so long as a windows based PC can access it. if this goes well i might well start looking at linux NAS boxes that i could use on the schools network so if you do have any additional information on attaching to AD that would be very much appreciated. thanks

Hi all, i'm trying to set up a file server for our ICT students to use but i'm having problems sharing files... .well in fact viewing the shares on a windows workstation. i have samba and ntfsutils installed on a ubuntu karmic server with gnome. i've formatted a drive to ntfs and mounted it, i can create a folder and share it but dont seem to be able to change permissions, whenever i do they just flip back to whatever i changed them from. what am i doing wrong? it's going on a standalone network so security will be minimal

I've had this on a couple of workstations where PXE was enabled in the BIOS but then disabled in the PXE BIOS (if that makes sense?) Shift-F10 at POST seems to be the common key press to access this menu

Hi, Due to a minor config error our WX has logged over 5000 alarms. When i attempt to remove them in the conventional manner the wireless switch manager software hangs, even if it's left for 24 hours it still wont clear the logs. I read somewhere that leaving the controller switched off for over an hour should clear down any stored alarms........ it didn't. has anyone any other suggestions? many thanks

humm, perhaps i'm looking in the wrong place then. will have a look through GP and replort back if i find anything of any use

ISA is the common link to the problem here. My PC goes straight out to our county councils proxy and it always works fine...

Do you use MS ISA server? we've got an intermittant issue here where flash websites sometimes work, other times it displayes the message telling you to update flash or sort out active x...
