  1. We have used a nice little program called ADRC Data Recovery Tools. It has a few little handy features available.
  2. Cannot recommend anybody, but have you considered fitting it yourself. We have fitted a number of rooms out with benching. All we use is standard kitchen work surface mounted on legs with a back kickboard. We then get our school sparky to install power and data points underneath. Very basic, but it does the job and looks professional, plus its a lot cheaper than getting someone in to do it.
  3. We have a long list of to do's aswell; Rip out old benching from Careers room, disconnect old cast iron radiators, box old pipework in, paint, carpet, first fix electric, install new benching, second fix electric and data. Install new cab into Pupil Support to accomodate the 40 cables from Careers. Run clusters of cables from un-networked classrooms Swap and change switches around Install new Sims Server, because the old one was sat on a blue screen the other day (not good at all) Install 3 Projector and Screens ( 1 with a full sound system) Rejig the machines around the school, in the usual sort of cycle. New PCs into IT Rooms, Older PCs to other Depts. Impliment Room Bookings and Helpdesk And of course..the documentation which the NM has been trying to do for the last 5 years with no luck (you should see his filing cabinet) All between me the Techy and the NM becuase we are the only 2 IT Support Staff

  5. ideally we are looking for a decent gigabit switch to connect our servers to, also with fibre connectivity to connect our 2 fibre links aswell.
  6. Nice to know some people can afford 4.5k for a switch, we can hardly afford £200 for a switch at our school.
  7. Hi, We are currently looking at purchasing a few wireless access points for each of our science labs and would like a bit of advice on how to configure and manage multiple points, intsead of having a seperate configuration for each access point. Anybody got any advice? Also what access points does everybody use? Many Thanks Carnforth High School
  8. Hi, we are in the process of setting up a new server, could you let us have a set of notes. Many Thanks Jim
  9. try ebuyer, we get most of our stuff from them
  10. We use Comms Express for most of our networking needs. A very good supplier and cheap too. Ebuyer is also good for stuff like that.
  11. we do exactly the same and we never get more than 5 or 6 requests a week.
  12. 2 days from placing the order to signing th edelivery notices for an order which was 63 boxes. The order was for 29 Computers, 29 TFT Monitors, 1 Server, and 3 Hard Disks for an existing server.
  13. weve had 3 sanyo projectors......never again. 2 of them went really dim, in other words you couldnt see them in complete darkness. even a bulb change didnt help. as for the third, the image had purple specles all over it. it was sent for a clean at an extortionate cost and came back worse. so now we have replaced all 3 of them with hitachi projectors which we have had no trouble with at all!
  14. wds uses the new WIM imaging format as used in windows vista. however there is a "windows deployment services legacy" shortcut in the administrative tools folder to create older setups which include ghost pxe boot disks. this has worked for us and we use the the old ghost corporate 8 version.
  15. we updated our 4 servers with service pack 2, all was fine. service pack 2 updates RIS to WDS to add support for vista. we have had no problems with RIS breaking down because of sp2.
