Ok, so were are in 2013 and guess what, yep suddenly I find conficker (downadup) on my network!! I have no idea where or even how it had managed to get a foothold on the network. Running CC4.3 - Servers are 2008 r2 running AVG 2012 Business Edition, updates running every 4 hours and daily scans. Workstations, Windows 7 SP1 as per servers, and scans as per servers. AVG Management console show all up to date, etc.... (ive even check on a machine that it is using up to date defs etc) Now, with Windows 7 and 2008 the same vulnerabilities that existed in earlier version not longer exist in these version of OS, so the patch out there doesnt apply to these OS! All admin users use strong passwords AVG does scan and find the virus and does remove it, but it is not stopping machines from being reinfected. I spoke to AVG as to why the on access scanner didnt stop the infection etc but the person i spoke to just directed me to some MS KB Articles. (really helpful!!! NOT!) So, from 3pm tomorrow I am embarking on a long weekend of work following various tech docs etc...... So after getting bored of read this, anyone any ideas on how Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 2008 r2 have managed to become infected etc.................

Thank for replying Ross, I have narrowed it down to smoothwall blocking the ports. I set sever and ipad with exceptions and they worked fine. I just need to figure out how to allow smoothwall to play nicely now :-)

After scratching my head, resetting my ipad several times I'd thought I would turn to here for help. I have set up Profile Manager on Lion (10.7) using a self signed certificate. Apple has generated the Push Certificate etc..... Ports have been opened etc..... so I'm reasonably happy that side of things. I Connect to Profile Manager using /mydevices - I log in, click on the Profile tab and install the Trust Profile. I then click on the Devices tab and click on enroll. I install the enrollment profile and think job done! I go to Profile Manager and nothing shows up! I go back to the ipad remove the Enrollement Profile and suddenly it appears in Profile Manager with the Ipad name and a blank square at the side. I've tried using Apple Configurator to install all the profiles. In Profile Manager it show under the Enrollement Profile that ipad used the Profile to enroll but again nothing shows under devices unless I remove the enrollment profile from the ipad. Any one got any ideas on what i am doing wrong? Many thanks in advance A very confused Mark

I'm looking to use Profile Manager to manage a batch of ipads we have in school and need to ask one question. When setting up our mac to manage them, do I have to use name.sch.uk (FQDN) or can I use and localhost name such as name.local?

Ive been given the task of moving our current email solution away from our LA and bringing it in house. Our LA using Exchange 2007, so my thinking is to install Server 2008, Exchange 2010 and then migrate/import mail/mailboxes into the new Exchange setup. My thinking was to buy as decent server and then use Hyper-V to run two VMs to allow for the roles to be separated. CAS and HUB, etc on one VM and Mailboxes on the other VM Has anyone configured an Exchange server in this way and if so let me know if my current thinking is on the right lines etc. Thanks Mark

Hi Simon Installed and configured netboot and it worked fine with CC4 and the best things is that no additional configuring was needed

I am in the process of setting up a Mac Server to manage apps and OS deployment for all out Macs. If I configure Netboot can someone tell me if this will interfere and cause issues with Windows and PXE boot? Many thanks Mark

Hi Guys Im after some more advice with configuring WGM. I have managed to configure and lockdown my macs, but one thing I am struggling with is removing the side bar, or ideally to be able to stop students from browsing the network. I've done some research and they all seem to mention about adding com.apple.sidebarlists into WGW. Only problem is that I cannot find any trace of this file what so ever. Its not in Library/Preference which seems to be the place most plists are stored. Can anyone suggets a way of removing the sidebar or stop students from browsing the network. Once Many thanks Mark

Cheers for the info on this guys. Presumable I create a group within LDAP, nest the AD group within the newly created LDAP group so I can manage settings etc? CHeers Mark

I'm after some help and advice on the above topic. I have just done a fresh install of Mountain Lion along with OSX Server. I have configured OD etc and then bound server to AD. When I go into the server app, I can see all my AD users and groups (and who is in those groups) so my mac server can see AD etc..... When I go into Profile Manager, I can see my AD users and groups, but Profile Manager tells me there are no members in my AD groups, eventhough the server app can see them. Has anyone come across this before and if so, is this normal or is somthing not quite right? Many thanks Mark
