Just been told I need to setup 40 new iPads. Only directives I've been given are it must be done ASAP and for zero cost, using free apps. Previous iPads were on a shared account, using Mosyle, which asks for the Apple ID all the time. I hoping to go down a cleaner, official route. They are going to be shared on a trolley - primary sen school, so no users need setting up, I'm splitting them into groups of 10. We have a ASM account but it has never been used it. Should I all add the iPads to that? Can ASM allocate apps, create folders and set wallpapers? Or is that what Mosyle is for? I can't find a step by step guide anywhere, only sign up for JAMF, for which I have no budget. Thanks.

northants-ecl.gov.uk email
themanfromict posted a topic in East Midlands Broadband Consortium (EMBC)
Anyone know who I contact to get a northants-ecl.gov.uk email address setup? I have a new head who wants to use the head@ email, but the previous head doesn't know the password or settings. Also just found out that one of our academys doesn't have a northants-ecl.gov.uk email 5 years after opening. Thanks -
Just been forwarded an email about a SIMS eligibility check in the April update. Any idea where I would fine the eligibility key? Never heard of that before.

I've just had a batch of iPads arrive from the DfE. Figured now now might be a good time to finally look at switching to an MDM, rather that linking iPads to one account. All the iPads will be shared, but entering iTunes details is a pain. I'm looking at either JAMF or Mosyle. Are they both US based? Or is there someone in the UK that resells them? I'm already dreading having to explain to the finance off that the subscription is in $ not £.

How long until they decide to apply this to education too... Changes to Google Workspace storage policies starting June 1, 2021 What’s changing In 2021, we’ll make some changes to the way we store Google Photos, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, and Jamboard content that may impact your domain. Please see below for more details. Google Photos Starting June 1, 2021, any new photos or videos uploaded to Google Photos or Google Drive in High quality will count toward the storage limits for users in your domain. Currently, only photos and videos uploaded in Original quality count toward storage quotas. Please note that any photos or videos uploaded in High quality prior to June 1, 2021, will not be impacted by this change and will not count toward storage limits. Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, and Jamboard Starting June 1, 2021, any newly created Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, and Jamboard files will also count toward the storage limits for users in your domain. Existing files within these products will not count toward storage, unless they’re modified on or after June 1, 2021. Who’s impacted Admins and end users. Storage limits differ across Google Workspace and G Suite editions, but we estimate that the majority of users will not be affected by these changes. See “Getting Started” below for more information on determining how much storage each user in your organization is allotted.

They still have ancient laptop, but prefer to blame the server... While not wanting to pay Microsoft and hating Google...

I'm being pushed to ditch our 6 month old file server in favour of cloud storage by SLT (also to look at clearing it of ALL their files ever summer, but that's another story). We currently have Google Suite, which I know offers basically unlimited storage per user, and the same for shared drives. How much space do you get with O365 (A3)? Hopefully we can use the governments digital education platform to set some of this up?

HP. Tried switching between legacy and UEFI during the summer...

We are trying to deploy our Windows 10 image use PXE boot to our desktops, however we keep getting error messages about formatting the hard drive. Our Deployment server is 2016. Deployment wasn't an issue until about March, when the desktops stopped deploying. Laptops we don't have a issue with, they work everytime. We have tried multiple desktops, swapped hard drives, nothing works. Any ideas?

We have been looking into switch to either SIMS online or hosted for the last 6 months. Last I heard from Capita they wanted have to run a speed check on our Internet connection, but I heard nothing back from them. Any ideas what we should ideally have? Currently about 10 users running SIMS. Thanks!

Trapped in Guided Access Mode
themanfromict replied to themanfromict's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Tried both multiple times. Teacher changed the code in accessibility options and has forgotten it. And when the iPad is force rebooted it shows the home screen for about 0.5 seconds before opening the locked program. -
I've been handed an iPad on which one of the teachers has changed the Guided Access code. Ideally I would like to just reset the iPad, but Find My iPhone is enabled so connecting to my MacBook doesn't work. Any ideas how to disable it?

[sims] Migrating from 2008 to 2012 - Queries etc.
themanfromict replied to Sam_Brown's topic in MIS Systems
I haven't truncated the database yet. We turned academy last year and the office switch FMS over to a second account, so the LDF is only 11 months old. I'll give that a go and see what happens. -
[sims] Migrating from 2008 to 2012 - Queries etc.
themanfromict replied to Sam_Brown's topic in MIS Systems
I'm going to attempt migration again tomorrow. Ran it last week, but migration failed due to FMS database being too big. Which lead to me having lots of fun detaching and re-attaching databases from 2012 and 2008. The FMS database is 30 GB, and HDD currently has 42 GB available, but dropped to 11 GB when it failed. I've got it back to 42 GB again by deleting the failed the failed lfd and mfd files. So it looks like I'll have to try shifting files to USB HDD temporarily. How much free disk space do you need for migration to succeed? -
I am currently awaiting delivery of our Big Grips iPad trolley. I have noticed that almost every review/guide I have read since ordering the trolley (8 week delivery time!!!) seems to use a MacBook. Is this because the Macbook will work with less problems than Windows, or they just had a big budget to spend? Is everyone else using a MacBook or could I use a basic Windows laptop? Or as my ICT coordinator suggested a 10m USB across the room to the nearest CC4 desktop.

Computer in the office is stuck part way through a system packages update. Boots up to this message: "Stopping RM Service Host Service" with a frozen progress bar. It also says that it will be unusable until 8:01. Nearly 2 hours ago! Any ideas? I've tried stopping the RM Service Host via RMMC, but nothing yet. Neil

Just spoke to RM. Apparently anything with WIMGAPI is 99% of the time a RAM issue. Who knew! -

IOS 7!!!!! It's out so now what? WIRELESS!
themanfromict replied to abillybob's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Just blocked mesu.apple.com on our firewall, to try and prevent every iPad and iPhone in school from updating at the same time. iOS 7: Block iOS updates on your office network, avoid first-day upgrade overload | TUAW - The Unofficial Apple Weblog -

Just been told that I need to look at getting a Smart LightRaise projector installed into the mobile. I'm wondering if a plywood wall will be able to support the weight. There again a ceiling mounted projector might be worse. Anyone installed one in a mobile before?

Admin access to user files?
themanfromict replied to themanfromict's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Currently using WinXP and Server 2008 R2. Am I editing Group Policy on the server (tried, didn't work) or on each computer?
