  1. Hi GeekyPete I haven't enabled de-dupe. I'm using a NAS (Netgear Readydata5200) - May have been better with iSCSI! Anyways, The file sizes are when I navigate into the storage - the part where it gives you details such as server, resource, time, method, storage, expiration and size. When I double click into the backup set it shows the contents. At the top level it shows the size of 1.04TB. Again, going into the properties it shows the size as 7.66GB. Another backup set which is 23.3gb shows as 6.6GB on the backup sets view. Although it does take up 23.3GB of physical space. I haven't tried restoring the contents to see if it restores the 1tb, It is doing this for all my backup sets in different storage locations. I'm struggling to attach pictures at the moment for some reason! It's very strange indeed! Thanks for your reply too! This would happen as soon as my maintenance contract expires :-P
  2. Hi all, Is anybody using BE2015? After an update, i've seen a change which i'm not sure is normal or not. For some reason my Backup Sets appear considerably smaller. Example: Backupset size = 7.66gb (which is wrong!) but when I go into the set it shows the correct size of 1.04TB Anyone else experiencing this or experienced? I don't have compression enabled. Thanks Andrew
  3. Have you got PHP installed?
  4. So far so good here, just had to boot up a virtual server and had one problem with a PC in one of the rooms going to be used for presentation. and... it's a P.D. Day!! apart from someone breaking down infront of me in his car. all is good! Update: We're ghosting the I.T. Rooms & several have failed. Yay!
  5. i'm waiting for the one in star trek when they decide to release it or even announce it haha
  6. Ah we use server 2003, probs will work better with server 2008, but the network manager isnt planning the roll-out to the next academic year It's just the I.T. Team with windows 7 here atm
  7. Locking the computer and turning off the projectors when not in use lol
  8. Last week we upgraded to 7, some issues to iron out first. We had a few probs with connecting printers, All seems okay! We couldn't upgrade from XP Pro to 7 Pro, had to do a custom install but don't think we'll be rolling out out across the school til next academic year!
  9. block the IP's/range(s) or even the ukraine CCld *.ua depending whether the hostmask are using .ua; through iptables... I wouldn't do it through apache because they can still attempt to access your machine!
  10. there's ranger too!
  11. For perl: PerlMonks - The Monastery Gates and; your life long friend; CPAN cpan have almost all modules available for perl, although you can write your own perlmodules; if your lazy like me and can't be bothered say, writing the base64 tables module for unrealircd, then yeah =) all there! (now THAT was boring when i had to write that ) even good old freezethaw!
  12. For email, there is another it technician who is running the website with cpanel, so that is a possibilty; atm the kids at our school use the LEA mydesktop & mymail system which we hope to migrate from. there is also Outlook Live (MS Exchange Server too). Lot's of possibilites for email! Our ISP Blocks internal mail so we have to host outside for now until we get an ISA server up and running. (Aparantly they won't open the ports until we have an ISA server due to the LEA). Make sure this is not the case for you! hehe.
  13. True its just teaching them and teaching the teachers to teach the kids . We have a hard enough time getting them to use their emails!
  14. i'm on placement now but i don't like the way you say an extra pair of hands but not an extra brain. i think you'll find alot of placement students are very enthusiastic and keen to get stuck in. The majority of us are not doing degree's for nothing. It's a shame that we're stereotyped like we can't do much. Alot of placement students can bring new ideas that the current technicians don't think about.

  16. We use netsupport I don't recommend using logmein due to their personal licensing. Especially as it shows when you are in control & it can easily be closed =)
  17. Not a bad idea, We don't at the school i'm on placement on but our university has what they call 'iws' How would you plan on doing it if you did? On my linux server i use apache userdir to create public_html in all my users /home dir's. and for it to include it into the server. (this is outside the school) I think it'd be too complicated for the kids though to ftp to the linux server. We're behind a firewall which blocks the ports anyway so it'd have to be 100% internal here. if you want help with apache give me a shout, i've been using it for well over 5years =)
  18. I get it for freeeeeeeeeeee. from the MSDNAA from my university (I am on placement)
  19. Lol Thanks for the input, We have explored those oppertunities. I have completed the task now anyway. Just hidden the field and made him a personal page where he can administrate the absence system with links. I am going to make the main page for staff where they can press a link to request leave of absence and also see their own requests on the page It should be fine for now. Thank you everyone for your suggestions! It has been helpful
  20. Love to, but i have a strict brief to stick to =). He has made it clear how he wants it. The boss is the boss.
  21. Okay update. Sort of solved it without security. What i have done is actually hidden the field through the workflow. Although it can be edited in spreadsheet, hopefully the staff won't figure that out. I'll create a link for the boss and all should be well!
  22. Ok still using a workflow same issue as list... I need to make it so headmaster can only EDIT the status field. but the staff can see whether their request is accepted or declined http://ionzap.net/form.jpg Any ideas where i can get an open source module/addon to do this? alot are costly.
  23. Ahhh, yes. Workflows! I'll try with a workflow and see how it goes.
  24. Kiran: Yeah i have been trying to do that but the only issue i face with sharepoint is column level security. I need to make it so the headmaster is the only one who can accept and reject requests, and the administrators & the head can edit. This is slightly difficult unless you know a way around it! might have to do some coding to hide the column/field from certain users! Or perhaps even a formula?
  25. Tried teamseer, too expensive £22/per user. SIMS isn't offering what we need. We want staff to be able to SUBMIT requests and have a no cover policy I'll keep digging
