  3. ok so i need to be able to pull my own bodyweight?? hmm nope don't think so think i might break a nail.... *hurls kettle @midget so he can make the tea and also hurls biscuit tin @midget so that a biscuit is served with me tea*
  4. uh-oh thought it was the wrong choice of word! *runs to hide in server cupboard*
  5. I'm full time term time only (so 39 weeks of full time work in which to cram everything in). But I only do 35 hours a week, of which only the mornings are useful as thats when the suite is not used so I can carry on with most of my list of jobs. Occasionally I pop in in the holidays if we've got a project happening then -last year I came in to check that the Smartboard installs went according to plan. And its definately true that if its got a plug and looks remotely technical it must come under my job description so I have to fix it. In my experience there's not enough females in IT - its definately male dominated (hmm not sure if that's the best word )
  6. Ok as ICT Technician in a Primary school my role is: Manage a network of 1 server/36 Desktops and 37 laptops on the curriculum side, and 3 desktops (one of which acts as a server) on the admin side Backup curriculum server daily (oh the joy of scheduled tasks) Maintain all PCs so that they are running smoothly. Maintain 13 Smartboards and their corresponding Projectors Maintain the school website Maintain the school email accounts Install SIMS updates and create new accounts as necessary Test software and new hardware Hardware procurement Liase with potential and existing suppliers Deal with any problems ICT wise as they occur Train staff in new programs/hardware Run 2 ICT Clubs for 6 weeks every 2 terms Identify areas of improvement for ICT support class teachers teaching ICT lessons (occasionally teaching them myself if Class teacher is very unsure of what they are doing) Oh and if its got a plug on it and looks remotely technical it must be something to do with my job! Hmm 5 year plan...more like 5 goals... 1. Update current CC3 network to a vanilla build of 2003/XP or Vista 2. Re-design school website to be more child friendly/interactive instead of boring formal 3. get all staff using their smartboards interactively instead of as glorified projectors 4. develop ICT clubs so that they run more regularly 5. get a new ICT suite with air con! (its not fun in here in the summer!)
  7. and there was me thinking that finishing at 4 was good!
  8. Christmas leftovers?? We've eaten those in the first 3 days back! The horrors were that bad! We got through 2 big tins of heroes, a tin of the mint thingies, a box of biscuits, found the biscuit barrell full of biscuits last week so they've been eaten, 2 cakes yesterday and another 2 packet of cookies...and today it was the ht birthday so she brought in fruit! *wanders off to see what edibles she can find*
  9. sorry guys, got distracted by year 6 searching the net to make paper airplanes.... did someone mention food? all we've got in our staffroom at the mo is fruit cos it seems everyone is on a diet...and i seriously need chocolate (or maybe alcohol or i might even settle for biscuits) after having my room invaded by year 6....ok back to researching different school websites as need to improve mine...
  10. vending machines?? we're still stuck with the hot water urn and bringing your own tea bags in...which reminds me time for a caffiene fix...
  11. Now why would you want to put the kettle on your head? Hmm since student days alcohol tolerance level has declined...really should do something about bringing it back up again....
  12. think i need something stronger than wine today...tis deathly boring here with not much to do...well actually lots of things to do but can't find the willpower to do them...and year 6 are due to invade my nice quiet suite any minute now...
  13. hmm true probably not!
  14. *throws kettle at midget* which of u guys is going to be the first to the put kettle on then?
  15. Hee hee yes I am indeed another woman, so the no of females on this board is gradually increasing then! we just need another 100 or so women to be able to overpower these guys though...as the female brain can compute many things at once....mwahahahaha :angel9:
  16. Hee Hee who says I'm not mad already? I must be slightly mad to work with children & computers! Hmm Binary...I've forgotten all that I knew from 1st yr degree so that would take me a while to work out (doesn't help that i didn't learn a lot either)! Thanks for the warm welcome (well its definately warmer than the suite I'm sitting in at the mo...must turn pcs on to warm room up!) Amy x
  17. Well I'm Amy, 24, ICT Tech at Sandling Primary in Maidstone, Kent and another whose job doesn't match their job description! (And yes, anything with a plug is classed as ICT and so therefore my job to fix!) I've also got a degree in Comp Sci from Portsmouth Uni. When I'm not at work, I'm working on developing my webdevelopment skills or out riding a horse...or walking the dog. Current project for half term will be building my own site and getting sky working with live sound on my media centre. I spotted Edugeek @ BETT, so thought I'd join when I got home as always looking for good places to find answers to niggling questions given that I am the entire ICT department (apart from the ICT Coordinator who is a full time teacher as well!) That's it from me, Amy x
