  1. Hi, You may have checked this but off the top of my head have you checked the security level of you CC4 TS to make sure it's not set to no security? Try running RSOP on your TS to ensure GPOs are being applied correctly? Also a long shot, compare dalocal on your TS server to daserver on your FRDC to see if they match...if not program sets aren't updating properly. Probably shouldn't matter as this just deals with delivery but I have seen stranger things! I've just logged into CC4 anywhere as a test student user and can't replicate the issue. i did have an issue where program sets were not being delivered to CC4 Anywhere TS until the server restarted, do you have your server scheduled to restart daily in the early hours? Cheers,
  2. Is this on XP or Vista/7? Safevol does not work on Vista/7 so although it says muted it's not doing anything. You could try installing safevol v1.13 if you are still using 1.8 which may work, this is available as an optional CC4 update CC4UPD106. Having said that we just give users access to the windows audio panel to allow them to change volume. One more point, is this for all users or just one? If it is just one clear the my settings folder in the user's N:drive (not their profile!). Seems to do the trick when users can't change vol or vol appears muted. Hope this helps. Cheers,
  3. Hi, Do you have these machines built to vanilla vista OS? If you do you could try driver grabber to ensure you definitely have the correct driver. I have had this issue a couple of times and solved it with a different version of the driver. Also try logging on to the machine and check the vendor and device ID of the network card, then open the driver inf file of the driver you imported and see if it's contained in there, if it isn't then that'll be your problem, you may need to contact Samsung for a more specific driver. Also how many drivers do you have in your build disk? If it's a large build disk try creating a new one and only add this driver. During the build process the drivers are loaded to a reserved area of the memory which is only 30mb. If you have too many drivers in the build disk some will be missed, although it says it has picked the driver up it may not have. Hope some of this might help. Cheers,
  4. Hi All, There doesn't appear to be much posted about IP telephony in here but might be worth a shot so here we go... I have been tasked with finding some call accounting software for a school that I support. The solution they have is a Mitel 3300MXe with 3 5550 consoles for the main office and the majority of the 100+ handsets being 5304s. When a caller calls the school they first hit the Auto Attendant which presents them with 3 options. Press 1 to report absence, press 2 for Finance or hold for all other calls. When they hold the reception consoles then ring. I've browsed the web a bit and found MiStats which should interpret the SMDR logs and allow reporting etc. I installed MiStats trial and connected to the 3300 and after changing some SMDR options I'm now getting calls reported...great. After allowing calls to record for a while I found that rather than reporting the receptionists extns 1000,1001,1002 I'm seeing Att1, Att2, Att3 which in itself isn't a big issue. Secondly I noticed it will not report incoming or outgoing calls, which really is the point of the school asking for call accounting software. I have called my mobile from a handset in school and have also called in to the main reception from my mobile and nothing is registered. I have been in contact with MiStats support who checked my SMDR setup, confirmed they thought it looked right then said they didn't know and to contact Mitel directly. This isn't really an option as the school don't want to pay for Mitel to take a look, and I would have hoped the developers may have known why their SW wasn't working. My question is 2 fold really. Has anyone seen the behaviour described above before and have any ideas about it? Or does anyone know of other software that would be worth a go? Please bear in mind this is a school in the north of England so capital is at a bare minimum. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as the school are on my back about this now. If you need any more info please let me know and I'll get back to you. Cheers, C
  5. Hi GoodheadDC, jmcdermott is correct, it is to do with folder redirection and only happens after the user has access their home area. You can go into the user area and delete the hidden destop.ini which will rename the folder correctly. I have a batch file on each of our user storage server that runs as a scheduled task every night replacing the modified ini file with a blank. This was a real issue for us as staff have access to the pupil's home areas but couldn't see who the users were due to this renaming. It's all explained here When you redirect the Documents folder on a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7-based computer to a network share, the folder name unexpectedly changes back to Documents PM if you want my batch file and I'll send it over. Cheers, Chris
  6. Hi All, We are having quite a strange issue at our site regarding printing from MS Word. The default print setup in black and white and duplex, for obvious cost saving/green advantages. Staff however can change their print settings should they need to print in colour etc which works fine with everything except MS Word. When printing from Word the changes made to the job properties appear to be ignored, yet printing from Excel, Publisher, Powerpoint etc the staff have no problems. Even stranger if the member of staff changes their default printer to a different printer then go back to word and print the document by selecting the printer they have just changed the default from the job always comes out how they wanted it! We are using office 2007 Professional on a CC4 SR2 network. I was just wondering if anyone has had/seen this issue, be it on a vanilla network or CCx network? Thanks in advance, Chris
  7. Hi Sukh/Michael, Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I have managed to figure this out today! The problem being that one of the printer's FQDN was slightly too long so when the box initially popped up it was showing the "second page" of printers, however there was no scroll bar at the bottom, to allow me to see the "first page". I have renamed the printer to something shorter and straight away no problems! Cheers, Chris
  8. Hi Sukh, It's an RM CC4 (SR2) network. The printers are installed on a print server running 2003, we do have PCounter installed to manage the auditing of printing which is supported by a 3rd party printing managed service provider. The printers are deployed using GPOs and are assigned by location. I have not been able to recreate the issue on any other machines than the two having the problem, which are both legacy NECs. We have other legacy NECs of the same model in the school which do not have the problem, but have the same or similar printers assigned... Like I say, I'm starting to run out of ideas! Chris
  9. Hi All, We are having a strange problem at our site on 2 machines. The two machines are running Vista Business and IE8. The problem being when a user (including domain admin and local admin) tries to print from internet explorer the box pops up to select the print queue, then the print queues disappear. Or to put it more accurately, hide. There is a split second when the box first pops up that the printers are visible, before they disappear. When F5 is pressed to refresh the box they reappear. There are 2 queues assigned to these machines, one being a "follow me" print queue and one for a Kyocera C5400Dn network colour laser printer. I can't find anything on here or on the net referring to anyone else experiencing the same problem. Although the users can print they are finding pressing F5 a bit of an inconvenience and would like it sorting. I believe I have exhausted everything I could think of to solve it, including removing and re-installing IE8 and other bits of software incase that is the issue. I have also started from scratch with both machines and the problem still reoccurs. The printers also appear fine when printing from any other application than IE. Also these queues are applied to different machines in the school and appear when printing from IE. As you can see im at a bit of a loss, so any help would be appreciated. Regards, Chris
  10. Cheers for the reply, have just noticed it. Has been resolved by the local authority who still support SIMS now anyway but thanks anyway!
  11. In RMMC go to software restrictions, then in the main pane at the top there are 2 radio buttons, select file rules. Click add and a box will then pop up asking for you to browse to the location of the file (I would recommend copying the exe's to a temporary folder on the server before hand). After you have browsed to the file make sure the dropdown list is set to 'allow to run' and hit ok. Also make sure you click save towards the bottom right after each exe you do. One thing to note is RMMC can be quite buggy doing this at times so if you get a random error when hitting save, close RMMC and reopen, re do the exe and should save ok. Hope this helps. Regards, Chris
  12. Hi Everyone, We are currently trying to get our new CC4 network up and running and have had a few SIMS issues, the latest of which is in Nova-T4. We have recently updated the MIS server and work stations to the latest summer release. Since doing that the lady who does the timetabling/cover for the school has reported that she can timetable people for break duties, registration and PPA etc as non-teaching time and for some people this data has disappeared, but not for everyone. She has to manually input this for everyone and obviously doesnt want to have to do it all again. The gaps in the timetable are still there but the information for what they are actually doing is gone. I just wondered if anyone had seen this issue or knows what it might be caused by, any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Chris
  13. Hi, Thanks for the replies but think I have solved the problem. The text wrapping was set to 'around' rather than 'none' so it wouldn't allow the table to move as it should. Thanks again anyway... Chris
  14. Switch starting to fail maybe or just needs a restart? Would account for it being mainly that room. If it happens on certain machines in the room try pinging that machine n see if it drops out throughout the day.... We have had similar problems (machines randomly losing and regaining connection), sometimes turning switch off for a few seconds n on again solves it, other times the switch was dying so had to be replaced. Just a thought!
  15. A student teacher is trying to dreate lesson plans etc using tables but is having a strange problem. When she reaches the bottom of a page, rather than extend the table onto the next page whe she continues typing the writing just goes off the bottom of the page then as she types more it starts at the top of the cell again writing over the text that is already there but almost as another layer rather than replacing the original text. I have changed a few tick boxes to no avail and it's getting quite annoying now, there must be something im missing! Sorry if any of this is confusing or unclear it's just a difficult problem to explain. Any questions just ask Thanks in advance guys, Chris
  16. Hi All, Thinking this will be a long shot but thought i'd have a go. We have been using some netbooks for a while now as an experiment to see how well recieved and useful free and open source software can be, and whether the pupils will warm to free packages. Some pupils had created some powerpoint slide shows using OO Impress (using a template created in PowerPoint), the majority of these worked apart from three of them. When double clicked nothing happens, doesnt even launch the program. I have tried opening them using powerpoint on my machine and i get "Powerpoint cant read the outline from 'filename.ppt' No text converter is installed for this files type. All office updates are installed, and have compatability packs installed aswell. If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated, Regards, Chris
  17. Dont know what that error means. Have you tried re-installing/upgrading firmware if possible on that model? Just a thought...
  18. We use EMCO Remote Installer for lots of products. This will scan individual workstations or multiple however you want it to scan. From there you can uninstall an application (provided it appears in add/remove) from every machine on the network or just selected machines. The reverse is true as well, you can push an application to as many machines as you want and will install silently. The free version is quite limited but the full version only cost us £80-£85 ish and is well worth the investment Chris
  19. Sorry wasn't clear there. It was the CPU fan running fast and reseating the card has solved that problem and also now boots too. The fan on the card its self is fine. Thanks again for all the help!
  20. Hi, thanks robmal and rlweb. Took the graphics card out, gave it a quick clean put it back in and now fires up fine (obviously one of those rare times a user has given me decent info!!). Still can't work out that causing the fan to run at such a high speed but problem solved! Thanks again, Chris
  21. Its an XPS 430 not a vostro, i have been onto Dell live chat and when i entered the service tag it said it was out of warrenty and to phone up and they would help for a reasonable price!
  22. Hi already reseated RAM, processor and HS. Thanks for the reply though
  23. Doesn't appear to be any that I can see. There is only the light on the power button which flashed amber when powered up then stays solid blue. The HDD light on the top at the front, a green light on the PSU and amber on the MOBO. Thats all there is im afraid. Should mention the fan stays at the constant high speed however long the machine is left on.
  24. Hi All, Having a problem with an XPS 430 desktop machine. When powered up the machine fires up, processor fan comes on at a very high speed, the hard drive light comes on for 10 secs or so then goes off, doesnt even reach post let alone start to load windows. The person using the machine said it just started doing it and hadnt changed anything before it started doing it. Interestingly though, they also said when they waggled the VGA lead at the end plugged into the graphics card it started to boot, but this so far hasn't happened for me. If anyone has any ideas they would b greatly appreciated as I'm kind of stumped and google hasn't helped much! Thanks in advance, Chris
