  1. Oh, dear god. Please tell me that's a fake account. IDS can't be that much of an idiot, can he? Certainly does nothing for the Tory 'nasty party' image.
  2. And the Tories were claiming Labour would send us back to the 70's. Riots within 48hrs of taking power!
  3. Vote Labour - oops, too late If you feel passionate about it... 1) Set up a petition on Change.org 2) Spam your local MP 3) Write to Teresa May I thought about doing the same for the bedroom tax until I noticed... 1) Change.org petition already exists and hasn't got much more than 3000 signatures in 2 years 2) My local, Tory MP, voted 'very strongly in favour' of the bill apparently. Was even a sponsor on the second reading
  4. How much total disk space do you require? RAID10 = 2Tb + 1Tb (Hot Spare?) RAID5 = 4Tb RAID6 = 3Tb If you want performance and reliability and are not pressed for space then go RAID10+HS. If you need the space go RAID5. If you don't care about speed and are paranoid about possible drive failure but need more than 2Tb, RAID6.
  5. My personal opinion, which I'm sure I voiced when we debated AV during the referendum back in 2011, is to have equal size constituencies with AV voting. That way I think you strike the right balance between PR and constituency representation. Each MP represents the same number of people and must get more than 50% of the local popular vote. Personally I'm not so fussed about an elected upper chamber. I'm happy for them to be appointed but feel they should represent society in a different way. Say x number of seats for ex-Police chiefs, x number for ex-army generals, x number for each religious groups, x number for ex-lawyers, x number for ex-nhs chiefs, etc.
  6. While it was only a prediction, the Beeb suggested on Friday that Gove might have ended up back in Education - "to finish the job he started now they don't have to appease the Lib Dems". Only a rumour, but still I had to go and have a little cry at the thought. Well least we now know the Tory idea of Justice. Putting Gove there send a message loud and clear to the Plebs and Servs. You can't afford it!
  7. Labours scottish MP's wouldn't have made any difference, Cameron would still have the same majority right now. The problem for Labour was south of the boarder. Had Labour done better south, as we were expecting going in, they could have worked with the SNP on some level. Ideologically they're actually pretty close. Certainly could have kept Cameron out of Downing Street. It looks like Labours biggest problem was the effects of the Lib Dem crash. Alas it was the Lib Dems not the SNP that let the Tories in, again.
  8. 1, 2, Many, Lots, ...
  9. That explains it, didn't pick up on that.
  10. That doesn't explain the Lib Dem swing to Tory.
  11. Well, if house prices start to full. If rents suddenly become affordable. If property suddenly becomes available for people who need to downsize (to avoid certain expenses). Then I'll agree. Personally, I should do great under a Tory government - so long as we avoid being swallowed by a MAT and I become redundant. Tax will go down, house prices will go up, I'm rich Which is a good thing since I'll need the extra income now if I'm ever going to be able to retire. Yep, it's not as bad as I think...
  12. People were too caught up in the rhetoric that the last Labour government caused the world wide financial melt down and didn't listen to anything else.
  13. A long way away? Seems closer than ever from where I sit. We can now look forward to... Bedroom Tax staying and continuing to hurt the poor 5+ Bedroom Council houses being sold off further depleting stock Housing Association homes being sold off cheap under right to buy "Affordable housing" being built for land lords to rent at sky high fees and not have to worry about maintenance The housing crises is now officially over - we now have a homeless crises
  14. Hi, We're having managed wifi put in over the summer and as part of the project I want to setup VLANs. Am I right in thinking if the print server has 2 NICs, one on the Default_VLAN and one on the Printers VLAN, clients will send jobs to the print server via layer 3 routing to the Default_VLAN and the print server will forward the job on to the printer via its second NIC? Also, I'm planning on having servers and switches on the Default_VLAN and client VLANs route on to here for services and web access via the default gateway (proxy server). Is this right or would it be best to put servers and switches in their own VLANs and enable routing between them? Client -> Vlan3 -> Vlan1 -> Vlan4 -> Server -> Vlan4 -> Vlan1 -> Vlan3 -> Client or Client -> Vlan3 -> Vlan1 -> Server -> Vlan1 -> Vlan3 -> Client Just wondering what is best practice for network security and if it's ok domain controllers being on different subnets to clients, etc?
  15. He wasn't center ground - he was a Thatcherite in a red tie! Still better than the alternative mind.
  16. I think the more important question is what does last night mean for us? I doubt (fingers double-crossed) we'll see Gove back in Education, but what can we expect. Those of us not already in MAT's might be getting a little paranoid about the future.
  17. It certainly justifies voter apathy when the Beeb can ask 22,000 random people and get the right result. The other 46m need not bother
  18. Say's something about us as a nation... 2011 - Vote No to alternative voting 2015 - Give Cameron a Tory majority 2017 - Vote to Exit EU?
  19. Some may argue, given the results, she's been given a fresh mandate by the people of Scotland. Anyway, pundits on the Beeb have suggested she doesn't want a re-run in the next 5 years anyway. Devo-Max is the thing now. There's some talk about turning the UK into a Federated state (good idea in my books), but reports suggest that's a step too far for Cameron. Now, with the clear rise in UKIP (they got 2nd in a lot of places), anyone want to place bets on the 2017 EU referendum?
  20. Before the TV debates I'd have agreed with you. But I think Ed did a fantastic job in those debates and came out very strong indeed. Not strong enough it seems. Personally I think the SNP story is a bit of a sideshow this election - well done to them by the way. They were never a real issue for Labour. The real story of this election is the Liberal Democrats! It's interesting, for 5 years they've been boo'd for getting in bed with the Tories and what happens at the election - their voters switch to Tory en mass. You would have thought they would be more ideologically aligned to Labour. That fact that Labour didn't pick up these seats is the real problem and I fear the reason was... Without the LD's to keep them in check this is going to be a very different government. Theressa May, this morning, was already talking about re-introducting the communications bill, AKA The Snoopers Charter!
  21. In that set up you should only need 1 SSD for the cache. Make sure its an enterprise model like the Intel S3700 to cope with a high volume of writes. Also, I don't think storage pools tiers the SAS drives, so it won't take into account the speed difference between drives. Personally I'd go for 4x2.5 900gb 10k in that set up. Should give you 1.8Tb mirrored plus the 240Gb cache, so 2Tb total. You can then easily add extra SAS drives later on if you need more space.
  22. Well the last exit poll, 2010, was spot on bar 2 seats between Lab and LD. However there's already talk of the '92 exit poll that almost predicted a Labour majority and John Major won a narrow majority. Apparently the increase in support in minor parties makes it hard to predict. So still all to play for...
  23. Not good, not good.
  24. I feel a joke about Blue Tit's is in order...

    QNAP Firmware

Depending on the failure, yes it can cause the symptoms you describe. I don't know 100% in the case of QNAP, but usually the OS for these NAS systems is on an hidden partition either on the first disk or RAID'd across the disk. Drive failure will cause slow down on any RAID array anyway since the controller needs to rely on the checksums to make up the missing data.
