Is it technically possible to combine SIMS servers onto a single Windows server or VM? Eg. We have 6 schools, all running SIMS. Each one is in its own VM, and there's a bunch of overhead managing 6 servers, 6 SOLUS installs etc... I know we can technically put all 6 databases on a single SQL server, and host all the S drive/SIMSAREAs on a single file server, but what about the document management server? The reason I'm asking is: 1. The resources actually used by the smallest schools are tiny but have this massive overhead of having to run a dedicated VM for SIMS for them 2. If we were to uplift SIMS into the cloud (not ideal but just looking at options), fewer VMs = lower costs.

It is very rare for an entire chassis to die - but every other component can be installed in a redundant manner (controller, psu etc...). The chassis itself is a box with some connectors.

Not sure this would work unless swiping your card is compulsory. I'd say around 50% of our staff get in by people holding the door for them, not swiping their own cards.

This all depends on the switches and phones used. With HP switches and Yealink phones with 3CX, you'd untag the phone VLAN, and tag the PC VLAN, then put the PC VLAN ID into the box for the LAN port on the phone that is being plugged in there. The phone then handles all the tagging of traffic.

I'd argue that with the people at the helm of the party, and the candidates they've been selecting, it isn't really overreacting. The Brexit Party is Farage's ego baby, not really about Brexit at all.

Yeah, I will echo SSD. We have nearly replaced all HDDs with SSD across our Trust. Cost is minimal but the improvement is dramatic. Like installing a new PC pretty much. Extended the life of many machines by several years at least.

Local profiles for all. Redirected App Data/Documents/etc... Delprof on pupil machines, to clear profiles and keep local disks clear.

It is *very* unlikely that you'd saturate a 10Gbps link, let alone a whole switch full of them. We have 6 schools coming back to our core here and we don't even saturate 1Gbps.

Yup. Or just connect each one to the next. Would save you a packet too, and if your core is limited in SFP+ ports doing it this way won't make that much difference to you.

I suppose it could be, but then if that's the case, why not daisy chain the switches together? If you're reliant on limited connectivity at the core, then you're not getting the bandwidth gains from stacking, so its just the management advantages, which Unifi gives you anyway.

Nope. Everything is based on standards and it all works fine. No, but extra cores aren't expensive. A 16 core OM4 isn't much more than an 8 core etc... There's no need for stacking at all with them - just slap 10GbE in to each from your core. If you don't have the SFP+ ports at the core, slap in a 16 port 10GbE Unifi switch too (they're not very expensive). Management is via a single web system, so you don't need them to be stacked for management purposes either.

If you're tied to HPE, then I'd say go Chasis, else if not I'd say look at Ubiquiti Unifi switches. I'd hazard you'd only need a single PoE switch in there (as most places don't have that many PoE devices coming back to one spot), so 180 ports of Unifi switching would set you back about £1650, including a dedicated controller to manage them. They'd have 10GbE uplinks too. Whereas a single HPE Aruba 2540 48G PoE+ switch is £1350.

I believe the aqua ones are "laser optimised" from what I was told once, but as most of them are teal now, and SFP modules are mostly LED based, that seems like a poor explanation. OM1 and OM2 used to be orange, then OM3 and OM4 were aqua. There shouldn't, by spec, be orange OM3 leads, but we have loads of them too. Only the ones we've got in the last couple of years have been aqua in fact.

This is often the case. In one batch, I had £1000 a unit differences on SMART screens. Its quite amazing that some companies think they can get away with such profit margins.

Pricing seems to be £6pm per user if you don't go for the Office 365 A5 package, which is £7.05pm per user for schools. Plus the calls. So, you'd basically be paying the equivalent of the price of half line rental per person, minimum.

Seems like a super expensive way of doing things, as you have to pay per user. Well, unless you have like 2 users or something. For a single user, it works out at a minimum of £84.60 pa plus calls (£109.20 pa for a call package).

Oh yeah, both Change UK (when they were just The Independent Group) and BXP have been talking about being companies. Farage has referred to BXP as being a company with supporters rather than a party with members too. So, totally understandable!!

3CX isn'f FreePBX - it isn't open source, its a commercial product. I think you may be mixing the products up. Please can you expand on this?

I am using the one my ISP sent (Andrews & Arnold) - a ZyXEL VMG 3529-B10B. Solid as a rock.

Do you have the bindings in IIS on the web server set up correctly? Oh, also, you need more than RDWeb I believe - you also need access to /Rpc and /RpcWithCert (which I believe are part of the gateway side of things).
