Its for an Open-E san. I don't trust USB devices for the boot partition anymore. It isn't possible to use Sata one due to the chassis.

I'm looking for something like the PCI usb card which have an internal port on them apart from I would like to it to support SD cards Instead anybody seen anything?

With 2012 server os yes. unsure on products like sql. You license per physical host 1 Standard edition license covers a single physical dual socket host and 2 vm's (you can assign multiple standard licenses to a physical host). Datacenter edition entitles you to as many vm's on a single physical dual socket host. The catcha is that with it being licensed per physical host - if you have a 3 node cluster and want to be able to live migrate between all you need to license each host for the total count of VM's. I.e if you have 3 node cluster with with 20 vm's loadbalanced you would need to buy 3 datacenter licenses or 10 x standard licenses for each host (so 30 in all allowing 60 vm's) RRP's Datacenter $4,809 Standard $882 More explained in attached pdf So basicaly as soon as you go above licensing 10 vm's (5 x standard licenses) its cheaper to buy datacenter. ws2012_licensing-pricing_faq.pdf

How big is your Sims DB? Personally with SQL I would put the ram requirements as OS basic +1gb (so 5gb for 2008 r2). Plus for SQL the size of the DB+2GB. This then gives the ability to mount the entire DB in the ram and then some space for sql requests to be processed. Plus Yes go for Full SQL (its like 75 quid a year on EES).

You should be able to setup Routing and Remote Access on your server 2008 DC. You can then setup PPTP or SSL VPN's straight to your server. and then the machines act like they are on the network.

I used to use LG TV's. We then had some HP DC7900 USFF machines which scripted on/off. The LG TV's powered on/off with the Input.

I'm just looking into some Sata Doms and in particular the InnoDisk range. Yes you could. Although are you using ISA for anything at the moment? Or just thinking of installing it for the sake of doing this? As I would use a dedicated Reverse Proxy rather then ISA.

Watchguard are pretty good - and depending on if you run VMware you can have a virtual appliance.

They may work but never used one. I've just found a UK reseller of the InnoDisk Satadom SSD's - Similar as above but on a Sata slot instead of USB.

Possibly - but it depends on what parts are dieing in the USB. If its the usb parts rather then the memory modules (which I presume it is as they would be the same memory modules most likely in a Sata DOM) you may then get the same/similar failure rate on the USB SD card reader.

One energy drink every now and then when a boost is needed isn't going to have a dire effect. Lots of energy drinks all the time especially people with heart conditions etc it will harm you.

USB sticks are ok but personally we've been bitten by them failing. at the Open-E training course they also recommended people didn't use them as even the quality ones tended to fail (they are not designed for 24/7 operations. All the newer HP servers have Internal SD card slots which are more slightly more robust then a USB stick.

Well IMHO the San hardware is good and nice and shiney. But the main selling feature for us is the VMware intergration which they don't have with Hyper-V I don't think. You could probably setup two sans with Active-Active failover and MPIO on supermicro or intel kit (via either custom build/VeryPC/Broadberry etc) for the same cost of an Equallogic - for HA reasons I know which i would prefer!

I do have the say the Equallogic units are brilliant. Although i only say this due to the intergration with VMware (host intergration tools it does it all for you from creating luns on san to joining them to all your hosts.) Although for use with Hyper-V there are more cost effective options IMHO.

Most likely needs the drivers. And without meaning to sound funny why are you installing 2003? 2008R2 should be the minimum IMHO. If you are installing 2003 ensure its R2.
