It can be done by spoofing PS to think the TS is XP

Matt, you looked at Sun Ray as an option ? What backend are you looking at VDI or WTS ? Drop me a PM if you want some more info.

Don't say we did not tell ya

DNS is normally the root of all evil here. Is reverse working ?

And, give me a shout and we can help get them set up.

Sun Ray has a bunch of firmware here to do this. The info is passed back to the control servers which then do the cool and funky bits. Zero clients have to have some kind of processing else they would be called a box

Wes, the reasons just keep stacking up. You know it makes sense

Sorry for the late entry here Reasons to buy Sun Ray The main reasons we see are: 1. Longevity - This is really important these days in large scale deployments. We see this when looking at the Sun back catalogue. Essentially you have Sun Ray 1 and Sun Ray 2........over 10 years. Not bad at all. Look at the HP and Wyse back catalogues and you will see more than that in a 12 month period. I have customers still running generation 1 Sun Ray, they can do pretty much all of what Sun Ray 2 can. The exceptions are mainly around Multimedia and the lack of VPN in the firmware. 2. Flexibility - Having the middle layer (Solaris) allows you to do all kinds of cool and funky things. You get a degree of control that you just do not get with the other solutions. To answer your questions 1. Yes you do need 2 sets of servers. But see point 2 above. It gives you huge flexibility 2. The logon screen can go straight to Windows. We put a school branded menu in front to allow some cool things to happen in the background. Users get no exposure to Solaris whatsoever. 3. Multimedia varies from average to good. To get Good we would recommend staying on TS 2003 for the time being, also the clips need to be encoded correctly. To get good flash, you also need to stay 2003 atm. Also VDI is now worth considering over TS. The cost of VDI deployment is coming down rapidly as the performance of the tin available rises. VDI gives you a better user experience as most of the cool developments are now aimed at VDI as TS has some inherent technical issue that are difficult to overcome. If you need anymore info, drop me a PM

Try a factory reset and re-import the zpool

Turn it off. It is EVIL. Go to DNS RR and see if that solves it. 2x is a good Load Balancer

What kind of size do you need ? 8k does not go far if you want really good kit with a chunk of space

How are you load balancing ? MS NLB ? If so it is the root of all evil.

Go on, tell us more

7110 should be more than enough for you guys

The VM stuff yeah. Just need to make sure that you are not going to stress the disks on the 7110. If the combination of VMS and CIFS shares is high IO intensive then you need to be careful. We have quite a few 7110 in the wild and they handle quite a bit

Trust me NFS performance using VMware is faster than iSCSI on the 7000 series. iSCSI is getting faster now it has gone to COMSTAR but NFS is still faster.

I would not use iSCSI for the VMs, you will get much better performance over NFS. How many VM servers and how many uses is the next question. Back up cards available are * Dual Channel 4Gb FC HBA * Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI HBA You would need something NDMP v3/v4 capable to do the backups

Gonna call

but these will tempt you for when pennies are available next MGP round

Nope, because we know you like shiny and cheap

Chaps, it is that time again. Matching Grant is here. It will run from now until 20th December. Price list is attached. If you need anything, let us know and we will process the paperwork for you. MG10_H1_PRODUCT_LIST_ENDUSER_GBP_09OCT09.pdf

Do not forget to post it on our forums also

Ah ok. I am going to try to escalate this as I have just tried 2008 against my AR sim and it fails. The 2003 DC is happy as Larry.

lol. Get the minion on as he has more of a clue than I do

The current 7110 range 2TB and 4TB will not take JBODs. Later versions may well do. The 7210 can currently take JBOD.
