We have a mac mini spare actually, does that mean we could use that but do all the mac's need to be running snow lepord, they currently run lepord. Cheers.

Could somoene please give me information on any software that is out there at a resonable price that is able to manage mac's. We need to for backing up the macs limiting user's rights and brininging some control to the admin. At the moment we only have a handful of mac's and the kids have free reign over them, even though they are not set as administrators they are persistent and will find ways around doing anything they are not supossed to be doing. We havn't added it too the domain and we didn't want to go down that route we just want to put the CD in and get it installed, I have ran the sophos removal tool from above, didnt help. The laptop came with mcafee which I have removed using the removal tool from mcfee and that is long gone still having problems getting stuck at the exact same point.

Just had a look in event logs seems to be nothing wrong, it dosnt get to installation stage, there is an authentication bit first, which it just is not getting too, When you run the setup file it should then be opening a login so that I am ok to install sophos. Just not opening the window. It once did, but then it closed after around 30 seconds while I was getting the login info grrr. Never opened since. It didnt open the first time I tried, after about the 4th then I have tried about 20 times since it did it, but no luck. Cheers for the sugestions keep them coming.

Normally do use the enterprise console this is just a personal laptop for a teacher.

Hey, I have had a problem with sohpos where it I put the disk in. This is for putting sohpos onto a admin or laptop machine and it runs the installer which takes you to a local webpage on the disc which then lets you download the installer, when I then run the installer is asks me all the questions allow this program to run and such and then when i have accepted it to run it just closes and nothing happens. The installation just stops it should be taking me too a login where I put the login details and install sohpos I have had this problem on a few laptops now, anyon know of a fix?

Just got a printer making a really funny noise when warming up and when printing it sounds to be jsut behind the hatch at the back with the vent. I opened it up and had a look, but cannot see what it is. Any ideas? cheers

Hey, got a imac giving out a sos beep. beep beep beep- 3 longer beebs - 3 short ones. Screen wont turn on or anything, lots of kids coursework on there really need to try and salvage it! I have another identical model of mac which is out of warrenty and has a problem with screen so i can use pieces from them both to get one working! But really need the one with the sos working becuase the hard drive is valuble.

Hey, today when running a normal fresh build I encountered the following error when trying to do a fresh build on a machine Communication exception: server reply status of UnKnownError, has anyone had this message before when trying to do a build from a rm cc4 server? Cheers

#550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable ## Just get someone getting this message when they try to send mail, any ideas to fix this problem? Anyone seen it before? They have sent mail to other people its just this one email adress having problems with.

Hey sophos picks up the virus and on any PC or pen drive it will give me the "clean up" option and just go through and delete it. On the server that option is not available, it seems to be in a folder RECYCLE. Anyone know how I go about sophos removing it on the server. Cheers

Well you see a teacher has come to me with this problem which is happening at home. He said it started as soon as he installed IE8. So I am a bit unsure of the exact message. I think he should try reverting back to IE7 see if it solves it. Anyone know a nice easy way of going about that, he said he is having problems installing it due to it saying a newer version is already running. I am just wondering if IE8 messes something up maybe. What do you suggest I tell him to do

What anitvirus do you use? Sometimes bit defender makes this problem occur, perhaps trying to disable it while you make the change and then re-enabeling.

Hey, I have a wireless usb adapter and it has always worked fine and after installing IE8 (mistake i kno). It has refused to reconize my device any one know of any issues with IE8 not reconizing a wireless device. Its happening on two seperate wireless adapters which I kno work so its not hardware problem becuase it happens on laptop and pc. Cheers.

Hey the network version. This tool from bit-defender is it safe running it on the server? Dont want it corrupting files as it goes through and deletes infected files. Just some guidance needed, poeple who have had the virus and have ran this tool.

Hey, Just wondering about disabeling the shadow copy on a drive on the server, I am wondering will it flush the shadow copy.

So it activates on april 1st? All this stuff its doing in the meantime I thought it was very much active There is another purpose behind just being annoying. We are going to try and start tackeling it right away. Just looking around for the best methods.

We do keep scanning computers and have all patches on, we are removing it dailey as you know it keeps coming back, we were thinking of going on like this untill the easter break removing it dailey just for it to come back. We were thinking of doing the full cleanup and removal during easter just becuase of the amount of work we don't need the pressure of getting it back up and running fast.

No we have not yet had accounts locked up, we have however had a significantly slower network last few working days due to the virus. It congests the network horribly, to be honest at the moment getting the pens sorted would be a good start, I mean I have seen a few teachers now bring it in on their pen drive and a couple of them were admin :S

We have this virus also, but got 6 pages to read through now on how to remove it cheers guys We thinking of holding out till the easter break before removal, just becuase they cannot do without the network for a day.
