  1. If the Con-Dem quango get their way - then all this will be in the public domain. Right down to the free biscuits you get with a meeting. As for Suffolk refusing the FOA - no comment. You could take it to the Information Commissioner, but as all Local Authorities are in the process of redundancies they are not going to tell you what they spent money on because they could be used in employment law.
  2. Freedom of Information request me thinks!
  3. You could use GAM (see Google Code) with Google Mail to download your email nightly on a script?
  4. Hi I have been setting up Postini filtering (in Google Education edition) for my wifes school. Does anyone have a list of naughty words/phrases that they use set-up for Postini that they could possibly share? thanks J.
  5. Hi Whoever set this up on some policies for Printers and settings I have Computer Configuration (Enabled)hide Policieshide Administrative Templateshide Policy definitions (ADMX files) retrieved from the local machine.System/Group Policyhide Policy Setting Comment User Group Policy loopback processing mode Enabled Mode: Merge and some are Mode: Loopback Would that have anything to do with the problems? J.
  6. Hi Dave Yes, I've tried this. I've made new OUs with the only other policy being applied the default domain. I've gone into every policy, done some modelling. Everything. Two things I've had mentioned. Someone said the PC settings might be over-riding the policy user settings or there is a loop-back setting somewhere in AD. I've never been into AD in that great a depth before as it is usually nice and simple - but I think someone else might have been playing and ticked one of the many hidden boxes.
  7. Hi Windows 2008R2 domain (2 servers) I have 2 main user groups (Staff and Students) Each has a different proxy server. However, whatever I set the proxy to in the default domain policy for IE it is the same for both staff and students. For my Firefox AD settings it does differ. I've gone all through the settings - tried to use "Enforced" - tried different methods - but the only way I could force a proxy change for one group is with a VBS script altering the registry. If there Default Domain policy is set to nothing for IE then no proxy exists. I'd love to know what the problem is and how to solve it! Could it be a corrupted IE ADMX file???
  8. Hi Kim I don't know - but if I reset the roaming profile everything is OK.
  9. The links on the Student desktops run fine. But the Staff Desktop is another matter. When I select any shortcut it comes up with a message box saying "Open File - Security Warning" Whilst files from the Internet can be useful, this file type can potentially harm your computer" Help - how do I get rid of it? J.
  10. Hi DNS is fine with us - but yes "Applying Computer Settings" and also when even running BGInfo - something else is not right in the background. I see lots of people have this problem online but no real resolution.
  11. Hi any news on a release date for shudownertron 1.5?
  12. Hi No they are set with VBS Script.
  13. An extra 180 seconds or more! It's not profiles or anything. The servers got restored back to how they were before, apart from the OS upgrade. I get the feeling it is trying to do/looking for something and failing - but going through the scripts or running them as admin once logged on they are fine.
  14. Hi Just upgraded a Windows 2003 server and a Windows 2008 server to 2008 R2. Nothing else has changed in terms of settings and DNS is running fine. However log on and startup is very slow. All that happens (extra) on logon is - Printers Installed - Drives assigned to shares - BGInfo to sort desktop. J.
  15. Hi Apparently Limitlogin doesn't work with 2008 (or R2) and hasn't been updated since 2005. Oh well...I know there are other ways in which it can be done with scripting but if there is no inbuilt tool it is another problem of M$'s creation.....
  16. Hi Just wondered if R2 had a security setting to stop users (ie students) from trying to use the same account on more than 1 PC - or did MS not bother implementing this yet again!
  17. Hi I want to use task scheduler to execute a cron job on a website e.g. http://www.schoolsite.org.uk/cron.php . What is the best way of implementing this so that IE doesn't execute each time! J.
  18. Hi I've got a number of user folders (in one folder) and I need to share these out. Security permissions are set for only the owner to be able to access them. What I'd like to do is make sure the share is also hidden. Has anyone got a script that will do this for me please? Thanks in advance J. OS: Windows 2008 R2
  19. I have got rid of a couple of dodgy files with del "\\?\PATHTO FILE" but it isn't working for folders - one claims to be empty but has a system file in place
  20. Hi Ken Tried that - no luck
  21. Hi - tried via command prompt - making a share and accessing it that way. Renaming....it just wont go!
  22. Hi D:\to_delete\To sort\Problem Areas\old to delete\x-brodier\ my ecv is one of them - I've renamed some of the directories as you can see - but can't move the rest.
  23. I have several folders and files I can't delete Some clearly have a space before the name e.g. " my ecv" (I don't know if there are trailing spaces) Some just come up with "could not find this item - then the location" - Verify the Item's location and try again. Thanks for any help and advice.
