I'd grab a Sony at the moment - very competitive mix of price and performance. The Jessops exclusive Alpha 300 is well worth a look - 10mp, with the best Live View system currently on entry-level D-SLRs for £350 including an 18-70m lens. I use an Alpha 700 myself, but that's probably a bit OTT (and expensive) for a first D-SLR.

IIRC, old-style iPods can charge via the FireWire interface power pins on the dock connector, and a lot of mains chargers use those pins. iPod Touch and iPhone models can be charged ONLY with the USB power pins in the dock connector, so can't work with older chargers. You could always get a USB power adaptor and use the iPod Touch cable with that - that works with my iPhone.

And what is the difference between this and actually saying what you mean?

My guess would be some kind of permissions problem. Does your program try to access files on the C drive at all when it runs?

I don't think petrol engines have either of these parts do they?

GrumbleDook and Edu-Tech hit the nail on the head - the idea was actually to have the library in iTunes on the server and use the sharing facility of iTunes to 'stream' to other clients. I know I could store the library on the server and point clients to it, but I want the capability of more than one machine accessing concurrently in safety. It seems a security update has broken QuickTime in Server 2003, but Apple don't support 2k3 as a platform for QuickTime/iTunes so it's a case of waiting for new version and hoping that that solves the issue. Just thinking now about running a VM on the server with iTunes on XP or 2000.

Thanks for the ideas so far... @Michael: I actually want to use the built-in sharing support in iTunes rather than hosting the library on the shared drive so I can safely access from several machines concurrently @Edu-Tech: Unfortunately, iTunes really seems adamant that it wants QuickTime - the error I get when it craps out says it's because QuickTime isn't properly installed. Hi Guys, I'm wondering if anyone here can come up with a solution to this problem. I recently grabbed an HP Proliant ML110 for just over 100 notes from eBuyer and have got it running at home with a 500Gb HD as a storage server under Windows Server 2003 Standard. The idea came to me the other day that it would be cool to set this up as an iTunes library server. Now, I've hit a big snag as iTunes won't work under Server 2003 because QuickTime doesn't install properly. So, does anyone know how to get iTunes running under 2k3, or know of anything that can do iTunes sharing that's free and works on 2k3. Cheers! Chris.

Not quite like that, but kind of similar. The monitor is the same, but the case isn't quite the same. An slightly earlier or later iteration of the same series I think. PCS something or other rings a bell!

I can beat that - I have an Olivetti 286 in the attic at home, again with DOS 5 and Windows 3.1. Still works as far as I know! And the miracle is that it's really small - one of the first SFF PC's I reckon! Beware, though, that the Crucial scanner isn't foolproof. I recently specced some upgrade modules for a set of specific model Toshiba laptops using their Memory Selector thingy, ordered up seven sets, then found that they didn't actually work with the existing RAM in the laptop - that was a timing issue. Better to try and get the exact specs of the existing module and replace like for like.

Big no here. In fact, my experiences with Vista on some new laptops at one of my schools inspired me to buy a Mac! It was time for a new rig, and I didn't like the way Microsoft is going with Windows, so decided the time was right to jump ship. And to be honest, I'm not looking back. I've got Office which I need, Photoshop Elements, and of course the option to use XP via Boot Camp or Parallels. And my desk is so much tidier with an iMac on it than my old PC.

Well, what a last 10 days it's been. Today marks the end of my two years as a peripatetic primary ICT technician - I said my last goodbyes out of 9 this afternoon. Monday sees me starting a new post as ICT Technician in a local boys secondary school. It's certainly a move forward for me, as it's full-time and the post has responsibility for Website development and the VLE. So, wish me luck people - it's going to be a big step! I think secondary boys in a city are going to be a bit different to rural primary children! Any tips?? Cheers, Chris.

In an unprecedented piece of poor planning on my part, I leaving my term-time post and taking up a new year-round position on 28th July - four days after term ends in our County! So, after having been looking forward to six weeks off, I'm now facing the prospect of not getting it! I've been allowed to take a fortnight off after working 1 week though, so it's not all bad.

They don't have to be PE teachers, we're not prejudiced (or picky!) Although, you should perhaps add single to the criteria!

I'll also agree with the don't buy new advice. I bought a brand new Clio a year ago. Got a new job with much better salary a week or so back, and decided to find out about getting a Megane CC. Went to the dealers yesterday to find that at 1 yr old, with 6k on the clock, it's worth half the new price, and £750 less than the finance balance. And that was with a £2.5k deposit from px on my old car! Rip-off. I'd say buy at upto about a year old. My Dad bought a six month old ex-demonstrator Laguna for less than half the new price a while back! Just anything but brand new, as you lose loads.
