I used to work at an Apple refurb company years ago, and 2012 MBPs were notorious for having HDD Ribbon cable failures, I probably replaced more than I've had hot dinners. Usually it showed itself when we swapped out the HDD for an SSD and imaged the drive, it would fail to boot afterwards. Might not 100% be the issue, but they're fairly cheap & easy to replace.

Definitely seems that way as with the recent stream showing the first 11th ed codex (Orks), they specifically say that the code you get with the book gives you access to "multiple updates / new additions over the year" in the 40k app. Would make sense if they just roll the rules into the Warhammer+ subscription but I expect separate subscriptions per army or perhaps a more expensive plan to gain access to codex info is what they're more likely to move towards sadly.

Braved the heat over the weekend to visit the local Warhammer shop (It'll forever be Games Workshop to me!), went in just to pick up a hard copy of the new 11th rules and ended up spending £150 instead of £15 as it often goes... Now I'm eyeing up portable painting stations to fit in my very limited space at home. Had a good chat with the manager (Shout out to Geoff) who's been running the place since the early 2000's when I first started and he caught me up on a lot of changes / new additions to the lines since I last played during 8th. Bit cheeky that they've released 11th and made all the core rules free, but you still need to buy a 10th edition codex to get army rules & datasheets until they release the 11th codexes in god knows how many months time though. I know about all the questionable websites and sources, but like to do it properly where and when I can.

We use it on and off for AP students at a few sites, it works well but does need a bit of firewall tweaking first in my experience. Absolutely was - luckily I was only an apprentice at the time so budget was very limited but it definitely stretched farther than it should have some weeks! A few lunch breaks near the end of my contract might have possibly lengthened to 1.5 or 2 hours thanks to 7th edition rules as well...

Seeing all the buzz around 11th and a few of my friends starting to fire up Tabletop Sim again has got me itching for a game... Might have to dig the Necrons out of their tomb world (the shed) for another run! Thankful I don't work next door to the Warhammer shop nowadays as I don't think my bank account would survive!

Following this as curious to see any answers or suggestions. We're refreshing all of our installs over the summer from MDT/GPO to InTune, and the tests so far have not been inspiring, same issues as you (and plenty others!) mention with slow installs, seemingly random syncs / install triggers, it's a nightmare and every machine in a suite ends up in a different state after leaving them for a few hours.

I use a couple Fosi audio bits at home for my PC & Vinyl setups, they make some bloody solid kit for the price. Picked up a 13" second hand on ebay last week, swapping out my MacBook for work as although most of my work is remote these days, I find myself still missing an app or two quite a lot and have swapped over to Linux at some so nice to have a dual boot available. Build quality has been surprisingly nice so far, swapping from metal to plastic I thought it would have felt a lot worse than it actually does, and the keyboard feels fantastic as well, and has been extremely satisfying just ordering the few specific parts that I wanted to swap out, not the cheapest but criminally easy to do. Tempting to get the pro chassis parts when they're available but depends on the price!

There was definitely a lot of money being thrown around to find the "next big thing" in the 2000s, but as per usual the tech we had wasn't strong enough for any of the cool things that they did come up with and bring to market. Smartphones solved a significant amount of portable tech desires, then tablets solved almost all of the rest. Now we just get new rectangles every year and every now and again something that stretches the definition of a new feature or "innovation". There's still a few companies out there trying some whacky things but they often end up being region locked to Asia only or cost an absolute fortune.

Will have to give this a peep when I get out of the office, I was fascinated by these machines when I was in high school - our headteacher in 05-06 had something very similar but bigger that I was obsessed with, looked like something out of a scifi movie at the time. On a side note, when will Edugeek get a vintage computing section 👀

Afternoon all, Anyone else using the Smoothwall Cloud Portal having issues this afternoon? Everything works fine except the Publishing page, which loads no info then brings up a 500 Error after 30 secs or so. Spoke to some other managers in my trust and they're having the same issue. Is this related to just our trust or is anyone else seeing the same? Cheers

Not strictly based in Essex but do cover the area, Breathe Technologies got one of my schools out of a very sticky situation a few years back and offer School support. I can definitely recommend them but I will say my experience was 5 years ago so no telling if they've changed since. Yep EE, I haven't looked at my perks in the past year but when I had to cancel it temporarily last year due to an MS bug stopping any 360 online services from working with a prepaid subscription, it was still all good then. I'm fully expecting it to disappear at some point soon though! Generally my issues with the xbox app besides performance are the game builds themselves, the xbox app builds have more than once just had random omissions from the regular steam/epic/gog releases where features or settings are missing for no particular reason - a few recent games have had DLSS and various other graphics options completely missing which took the devs a few weeks to patch back in - would rather not deal with that and just buy the games outright!

I get ultimate bundled in with my phone contract so will be keeping it for the time being, but wouldn't be surprised if they start offering a lower version or ditch it entirely in the near future, I probably wouldn't miss it either way! I think I'd prefer the Playstation equivalent at this point as I haven't powered up my Series X in months, and the xbox app on PC is so poor to the point that I mostly end up buying gamepass games on steam instead these days.

Morning, anyone else having a fun friday with Outlook today? We're finding that since this morning, when a user tries to open a shared mailbox that they have delegated access to, it'll happily open a new tab and show the mailbox, but it'll kick them out of their actual account on the original tab, then prompt them to try and log back in as the shared mailbox instead of their own account. Happening on multiple devices, across Win 10 / 11 / MacOS, and hitting multiple shared mailboxes in this & other schools. Screenshot is the popup you get on the main account tab, clicking Refresh tries to log you in with the shared mailbox email.
