Thank you all for your responses so far. I am in agreement that a Fortigate with Smoothwall for filtering would be the ideal solution but our budgets just don't stretch that far. My main issue with Smoothwall is the visibility, I just don't feel I get enough back from the firewall but the filtering is very good - I need to balance the needs of overall network security with making sure that our filtering and monitoring is as strong as possible. We've got Cloud Filter (recently rolled out to Macs and soon to Windows devices) and are now using Cloud Reporting too. In regard to Fortigate, the quote I've got includes FortiAnalyzer, is this as good as FastVue? Thanks, Tom

Hi all, Hope you are well. I've been looking at our schools firewall situation for months now and I'm no closer to finding a solution that I'm 100% happy with. We have been using a council provided Smoothwall for years which I am happy with in terms of the filtering side but find the unit frustrating to use when it comes to the firewall side of things. The council agreement is now coming to an end and I have been looking at either going down the route of replacing the Smoothwall for a new unit (ours is ageing) or going down the route of Fortigate or WatchGuard. I've also looked at NetSweeper. The pricing for all three is fairly similar overall. Ideally I'd like a higher end firewall (such as Fortigate or WatchGuard) combined with a filtering solution separately but budgets will not allow for this. If I was go to with a Fortigate, will this give me the same level of filtering, dynamic content inspection etc? I am concerned from a safeguarding point of view that I'm going to a product which is less education focused although it will clearly be a step up in the firewall side of things. Please feel free to advise, I am going around in circles! Thanks, Tom

Update - hasn't been resolved at least for our tenant, issue is still ongoing. Tom

The service event that Microsoft Support kept pointing me to on the admin console: Users may be unable to access Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and Skype for Business while under Selective isolation Final status: We’ve validated our short-term solution and have ensured that it will be viable for addressing the exclusion problem. However, for the short-term solution to be applied, affected users should contact support representatives as it requires manual implementation. Looks to have supposedly been resolved - I'm going to contact Microsoft Support again now.

I had another similar call yesterday - no further info given or any ETA. They kept telling me that it's only isolated to some tenants but was being worked on. We've deployed Firefox to critical users and it seems to be working ok so far.

Thanks Paul. Just had a call with Microsoft now, they confirmed the issue which looks to have been affecting some tenants since the end of October. They suggested clearing cache etc or alternatively moving to a different browser. No estimated time given on the fix. Tom

Hi Paul, After logging out of everything in Chrome & Edge, clearing all cookies for all time, it worked for a period of time (a few hours) before then reverting back to the same again. We are going to roll out Firefox to critical users now, is it working correctly in Firefox for you all the time with no issues? Thanks, Tom

Thanks Jensen. It's very frustrating as it seems to be affecting our users increasingly randomly, working for a period for some and then going again - we've tried browser resets etc but that seems to be very hit or miss too.

We are experiencing the same, across Edge and Chrome. Mainly affecting access to OneDrive & SharePoint but we have been having issues with Outlook access today too. I've had a ticket open with Microsoft since Monday but not even had an agent assigned yet - has anyone had any further information or correspondence from them? Thanks, Tom

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you ZeroHour. It is Office 365 based. Kind Regards, Tom

Hi all, Hope you are all well. We had a delightful first full day of term today with an issue in particular which cropped up and wanted to see if anyone has been dealing with the same thing. We had reports of staff struggling with Outlook Web App crashing and after attending some of the PCs, we were seeing an error called the Aw Snap/Can't open this page with the error code status_breakpoint. The browser will refresh and Outlook will work again for a short period before doing it again at random. We are seeing this across Chrome and Edge on Windows 10. This is happening frequently across a number of PCs. We have updated Chrome and Edge manually on an affected PC, the PC being tested with was on Chrome version 116.0.5845.179, now updated to 116.0.5845.180. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance. Kind Regards, Tom

Thanks all, I’m going to look at matching the O365 uses with AD now before going any further. Don’t want any duplicate users in Azure!

Thanks Will, that’s a big help. I’ve got Azure P1 License so I could do password write back I believe. Would it be the case that if I enabled password hash sync, it would then overwrite the M365 passwords from AD but then they could set a new password from M365 which would then write back? Either way, I’m losing my current M365 passwords? It wouldn’t be an issue normally but Y11s get their results via email so obviously don’t wanna change these really, at least right now. Kind Regards, Tom

Hi all, Hope you are all well. I have a gap in my knowledge and before I move any further forward, I have a few questions I need to be sure of the answers to before proceeding. I’ve trawled forums and help documents but I want to be clear before pushing this change on the users at school. I am wanting to use Azure AD Connect, the school I manage looks to have been connected years ago but this has not been used for a long time. This would be initially to use features such as password hash sync and seamless SSO. Then in the future I’d like to progress down the Intune route and Autopilot but that is another story for now. After enabling Azure AD Connect, which password is used when using password hash sync, does the current AD password overwrite the M365 one or does the M365 one overwrite the AD password? Following the change, does the user need to sign in to the computer with their email address or can they use their normal AD credentials as normal? I’d already changed the routable domain for some users however this is the next step to change the UPN suffix for all users. Regarding SSO for office, do the devices have to be hybrid azure ad joined for this to work or will this work without being hybrid joined? We are using Office 2021 at the moment but I’d like to move to M365 Office for all with new features etc. I think this is everything I can think of for now haha, thanks in advance everyone. Kind Regards, Tom
