jason2234 replied to Arcath's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall

Hi all I am using the mlg "my site" webpart to display the options for a site. for example i'm setting it to show all the pages under the staffroom site. the web part lists all the pages inder the staffrooms site. Well the my site webpart won't let me use both internal and external links in the start site. I can't just use /staff/staffrooms i have to have either vle1/staff/staffrooms (internal) or vle.holte.bham.sch.uk/staff/staffrooms. Does anyone know of a better free webpart i can use for this instead of the my site one? or does anyone know of a way around this problem? Thanks Jason

Just a thread to thank simon for all his hard work for quoting and sending 2 lamps for a unifi 35 projector at a good price and a good speed to match. Also double thanks to him sorting out a replacement for the 2 when we realised the lamps we needed were actually for a unifi 45 projector which he managed to get to us next business day! Thanks for the top notch service Jason Holte school

adding a server 2008 dc to a 2003 domain
jason2234 replied to jason2234's topic in Windows Server 2008
This is what i did. I installed 2008 on my new dc and then upgraded all the schemas and made the new server the pdc. Server 2008 is a very good program, a lot better than 2003 in a lot of ways. From doing this upgrade i had no problems what so ever and my next step is to remove the old 2003 dc's all together and add another 2008 dc. -

jason2234 replied to jason2234's topic in Windows Server 2008
the forestprep took quite a long time (well 30 minutes) but the others only took a few minutes. In the end the whole process was very easy and actually quite quick. -

thanks for the link plexer. Do you know if there will be any downtime with this work? Just thinking whether to run it tomorrow or to wait for the term next week. Thanks -
Hi all I'm in the process of adding a server 2008 server as a dc to a 2003 domain but i want to make sure i'm doing it all right and there a few areas i need some help with. Right i have 2 2003 dc's and i'm adding this as the 3rd and later i will remove the older of the 2 2003 dc's. The PDC is named Fred (i didn't name it this ) and the new dc is named dc-01. This is as far as i've gotten. 1.install server 2008 2.run the following commands on my 2 2003 dc's adprep /forestprep adprep /domainprep adprep /domainprep /gprep adprep /rodcprep 3.run through dcpromo on my 2008 dc 4.get a cup or coffee and enjoy my success Is this even right? Is there anything i've missed off? such as do i need to back up the ad before this (how do i do this if i do never actually backed up ad before )? Will there be any network downtime in this process? Also i want the server 2008 server to be the primary dc will my method achieve this? Thanks Jason
