We were donated a SMART board a while back but everywhere else we use Promethean's boards and ActivInspire. We upgraded all our PCs to Windows 7 last year. I installed the latest SMART board drivers(as of Aug 2011) The pens work fine in Windows 7 but when we run other software such as ActivInspire the pens just draw ink all over the board rather then sending it as a mouse signal to ActivInspire. Any ideas?

Any idea as to where we could obtain some 10-120 second video clips from suitable for 7-11 year olds to learn how to use Windows Movie Maker Live 2011 with?

Thanks for your help so far. I think I've found the manual at Lighting solutions for Theatre, Film & Television Studios and Architectural spaces : ETC It looks like we have 2 SmartBars. A is on the left of our hall and the 5 lights are currently numbered 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12. (Lights right hand side of stage and is on the right hand side of the Strand 100.) B is on the right of our hall and the 5 lights are currently numbered 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6. (Lights left hand side of stage and is on the left hand side of the Strand 100.) So 10 and 3 don't do anything on the Strand 100. For the last 4 years's I've put up with it but it makes doing live productions a bit of a challenge. Ideally I'd like to have the lights 1-5 and 8-12. That way 6 and 7 won't be in use.

We have a Strand Lighting 100 Series Console. We have 10 lights. Channels 1-6 are for the left hand side of the stage and 7-12 for the right hand side. We only have 10 lights though. Two of the channels are not used. Can we re-program them so that we use 1-5 and 8-12 instead? We have two of these controllers: Can you identify this controller? How do we re-program them to use channels 1-5/8-12? ____ I did a search for the buttons and have now discovered it's from Electronic Theatre Controls(ETC) www.etcconnect.com ____ It looks like it's a SmartBar. The manual is here.

I've just spent 20+ hours this weekend producing 7 DVDs containing photos from 7 year groups. There were 180 photos on each DVD. I have Windows 7 on my Laptop: Acer Aspire 7720 Intel 965 Express Chipset Family Intel Core2 Duo T5250 1.50GHz System Bus 667Mhz L2 Cache Memory 2MB SSE SSE2 SSE3 2GB Ram I used Windows Live Movie Maker and Windows DVD Maker. The results are suburb but it took an age to do! After importing the photos and music into Windows Live Movie Maker the Save movie.Burn to DVD took around 30-45 minutes for each video. The sizes of the photos were: 640x480 1190x1031 1216x912 1728x2304 1536x2048 2048x1536 2304x1728 2304x3072 2736x3648 3072x2304 3648x2732 Burning the DVD took up to 1h:45m to encode and burn each DVD. The actual burning to DVD was very quick it was the encoding that took so long. What specification for a video editing PC would make this process much faster?
-
What would you suggest is the lowest spec for a pc to do video editing? Although we're a small primary school, we mamage to produce stacks of multimedia, some 14,000 files since September. Most are photos but there are 000s of video files too. We used a SonyCam and FlipCams which produce MP4 files. So far we've only bought Dell Optiplexes. What is the minimum spec for doing this in terms of processor, memory and video card? We don't have Windows 7 yet but may have later this year.

How can I take a set of 6-8 photos(JPEG) and turn them into a slideshow for our website's home page? (Preferably using free software.) (We can host a .swf file.)

We're looking for a DVD Duplicator. We duplicate about 30 DVDs 2 or three times a year and about 200-240 DVDs once or twice a year. Should w buy a DVD duplicator or use a company instead?

We made some changes to our active directory and GPOs last week. Now some users on some PCs cannot access any https websites at all. On the same pc some users can and some can't. We're using Windows XP SP3. None of our GPOs for internet explorer settings were changed and gpresult shows the correct GPOs being applied. Error message: Internet Explorer cannot display page. Internet Explorer Diagnostics: warn HTTPS: Error 12157 connecting to Microsoft Corporation. An error occurred in the secure channel Any ideas?

I've a got a whole class of 30 photos. I need to crop them all down to: Width 73 Height 110 The original photos are 2304x1728. Is there an easy way to do that? I don't mind manually saying where to crop on each photo but I don't want to spend an age drawing 73x110 rectangles then to go through the process of cutting and saving... IrfanView will batch resize them but I want to choose the part of the face to centere on. Eventually I will need to do the whole school.

On several PCs now whenever anyone goes to a folder with video files in and viewed with thumbnails Windows XP's Explorer crashes with a Data Execution Prevention error message and Explorer promptly closes down. Our video is in either AVI, MPEG2 or MPEG4. We do use VideoLan's VLC to view MPEG files. Some staff have tried to install YouTube downloading software which I've now removed. Across the internet the solution seems to be to switch off DEP. I'd rather find the cause though. Is it best just to re-install Windows XP? Any ideas?

In the old days you just took what came next: 8086 80286 80386 80486 Pentium Pentium Pro Pentium II Pentium III Pentium 4 Pentium D Pentium M Yet today this is a list of processors available for laptops: AMD Athlon AMD Athlon Neo AMD Athlon x2 Dual Core AMD V-Series AMD Athlon II X3 AMD Phenom II X3 AMD Turion x2 Dual Core AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual Core Intel Celeron Mobile Intel Celeron Dual Core Intel Pentium Dual Core Intel Core Duo Intel Core 2 Duo Intel Core i3 Intel Core i5 Intel Core i7 What is the difference between AMD and Intel? What does Athlon, Phenom and Turion actually mean? The same goes for Celeron, Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7? Is there going to be a Core i1, Core i2, Core i4 or Core i6? Is it all just branding and marketing? Will a teacher who just does Word and Powerpoint actually know what their laptop's processor can actually do? Today I saw in a shop with laptops on sale for just £280 +VAT: TOSHIBA SAT C650D-10K Processor AMD V-Series V120 2.2GHz (3200MHz Bus) (512MB cache) Ram 2GB Hard Drive SATA 250GB Windows 7 Home Premium Screen 15.6" Graphics ATI radeonHD 4250 (Shared) DVD Plays & records CDs and DVDs Wi-Fi: 802.11b/g/n USB: 2 slots Weight 2KG The only thing missing would be three years NBD warranty.
