I have a budget of around £100(ex VAT) to spend on some software. These are my priorities: 1. Edit video: I normally use Windows Movie Maker but the version on Windows 7 is not as good as the XP version. 2. Produce DVDs: I use Windows DVD Maker which has been fine in the past but I'd like to move on a little more. 3. Edit photos: I'd like some photo editing software. At the moment I use Windows Photo Story. I use Windows 7. The video files come from a Sony DCR-SR32E and the format of the files is MPEG2-PS. What would you suggest?

I was trying to fix a CODE 39 error for a CD-DVD driver on our Dell Optiplex PC. I followed the instructions at Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs When I rebooted the USB keyboard no longer works in Windows XP SP3 making the PC unusable. I've tried safe mode as well. The keyboard does work in F2 BIOS setup but I have to move all the video cables around to directly connect the monitor rather than going via the splitter to the projector. How can I restore the registery key from another PC?

I logged on to Dell's website to look at the PC's orginal configuartion. It said it came with internal speakers. Next I had a look at Device Manager and sure enough there were 2 audio devices with question marks on them! I downloaded the audio driver package from Dell and 10 minutes later had the sound working Thank you very much.

The PC is a Dell OptiPlex GX620. (Bought 08/09/2006) In Control Panel.Sound it says, "no audio device"

A while back we bought some PCs that have no sound that up until now have been used for admin PCs. We now want to use them in our ICT suite. What is the cheapest way to add sound? Can a USB sound card be used?

Our head's PDA(Windows Mobile 6.5) HTC Diamond HD2 was sent back to be fixed. I've spent ages trying to get it to work with ActiveSync but have failed every time even though it used to work. I had a look at the Windows XP SP3 Firewall exception settings: Everything is ticked for ActiveSync except for "ActiveSync service" which is greyed out and cannot be ticked. It says No under the Group Policy column. I've tried to change as the Administrator too. The phone will only sync when the "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)" service is stopped in Control Panel.Administrator Tools.Services. Any ideas?

One small tip. Make sure all your fronter rooms have your school's name or a short version of it in brackets at the end. You would not belive the number of ICT public rooms we have access to but no way of knowing whose schools they belong too.

The two schools I work in both use OpenCheck. Everytime I've checked this week it has worked for both the boroughs' my schools are in.

We're using Windows Server 2003 R2 and Windows XP SP3. All of a sudden since half term(from the start of last week) All the teachers have lost their user settings*. ActivPrimary 3 keeps trying to install itself too. We've been using ActivInspire since July. Icons on desktop not quite right. Also there is one PC that tried to install some software we havn't used for year everytime someone logs on. I wasn't in at all last week so I no that I have changed nothing. It's very hard where to start looking? Any ideas?

We use it a little in primary. The new Play Live maths feature has gone down a storm.

One of our Planet WAP-4000s used to be connected via an external Wi-Fi antenna. We now need to use the WAP-4000 inside. Where can I buy a new Wi-Fi antenna from? Also which Wireless Access Points can you recommend to extend our LAN in some of our classrooms to our Wi-Fi network?

We won't be using a netbeui Workgroup but will be accessing the file Windows 2003 R2 file server. If I didn't use Sysprep my fear is that all the netbooks would have the same Windows product key. In the future might the duplicate SIDs become an issue?

I've got 3 Dell Latitude 2100s (Windows XP Home SP3, 1GB, 160GB) with 4 more on their way. I've sent one up exactly how I want it with all users, desktops, applications(OpenOffice, 2Simple Collection) and network share connections. This is my plan: 1. Take a disk image just in case need to go back to the start. 2. Uninstall Sophos Anti-Virus. (Do I really need to do this?) 3. Sysprep it. 4. Take a disk image to be used on all the others. 5. Copy disk image onto the others. 6. Install and configure Sophos Anti-Virus in each one. Will the above work? How do I return netbook back to its initial state?

Is there a way to make every user have the same profile? If I change one I want all the others to be the same. We've got 3 Dell Latidude 2100 netbooks running Windows XP Home. At the moment I have to log on to every user on every 2100 to set up the Start Menu, Desktop(I'm using All Users) and the Proxy server settings for IE and proxycfg. Is there a faster or easier way to do all this? I starting to think that we should just have 2 users, "teacher" and "child" rather than a logon for every year group(primary school.) The advantage of a log on for every user is direct access to our Windows 2003 R2 network with out the need to log on. It just connects. None of the users have passwords.
