Late reply but yes, those sort of date range options do seem to be relative and not fixed on the day the report was created. I've not used the 'Current term' option myself but have used 'Today', which dynamically changes the date range to the day you are on; a bit like =TODAY in Excel. So, if I created an attendance report on the 1st May with 'Today' and viewed that same report on 16 May, the data is reflective of 16 May, not 1 May.

Used hosted SIMS in previous school and currently use Arbor for our new secondary, and looking to move our primaries from Progresso to Arbor as well. The assessment module for Arbor secondary is really frustrating and as someone else mentioned, there is no sub-programme for timetabling like Nt6 in SIMS. That said, I would never move back to SIMS, and no forward-thinking MAT should either.

SchoolCloud is truly awesome. The sync to your MIS is done manually but is relatively quick and very seamless. The UI itself is modern and user-friendly so parents and staff find it a breeze to navigate. I've set up several parents evenings in literally minutes using the clone function; have never had an issue with it. EduLink sounds like a more comprehensive solution and can't stop hearing good things about it. Have not used it myself however.

Our local SIMS server is our TPC. Am running utility on local machine. Username points to user created in SIMS, location of commandreporter.exe points to Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS.net folder via mapped drive to server/TPC, server instance/database name point to exactly what is stated in system info in our Hosted SIMS (SQL Server name: , Database name: ). Am I missing something?

So, I’ve mapped the server drive to my local machine fine and populated the following fields in the CLR utility: User name of SIMS user with permission to run reports Password of SIMS user with permission to run reports Location of CommandReporter.exe Server name\Instance Database name Save output files to However when I try to get parameters I’m met with this error: Login failed for user . Reason: A netwo rk-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection t o SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the in stance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connect ions. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection t o SQL Server) I’ve gone into SQL Server Configuration Manager and doubled-checked TCP/IP is enabled (which it is) and have enabled IP1 – our server IP (the rest are disabled) but it returns the same error. I’ve left instance/database fields blank as well but still same error. I’m not IT (data here) but maybe worth mentioning that the server and database name in connect.ini is different from the system information in SIMS. Will log with ESS but any ideas in meantime?

How is everyone working CLR in hosted environments? Our school is new to both it and SIMS. I've downloaded the CommandReporter Utility 5.2 spreadsheet available from ESS but does it need to be run in the third-party connector machine (this is our SIMS server where CommandReporter.exe is located). If so is it possible to output the report, once run, into my local desktop somewhere so it can sync with Power Query, Power BI etc.?

Our school hasn't implemented Power BI yet as a solution for long-term use, but your methods should suffice when we do get it so thanks! In the meantime I've basically given up on the in-built LM reports and design macro reports instead, but here---and not to derail the thread too much---we have the additional issue of sending the code to Capita for them to digitally sign (as we are on the horrible hosted version). I've been told on one hand that we require an add-on of sorts to do this, and on the other just email it to their service desk for signing. Until we get a concrete answer, we are forced to run the macros manually

Thank you to all who responded. After some further SIMS training there still doesn't seem to be a straightforward way to do this. The workaround is to output the report to file and save as .xml, then paste that into your desktop and drag across to a local Excel worksheet. Messes up the formatting but seems to be the only option atm.

I've been using SIMS for four months now and am quite baffled as to how poor/inflexible some of these lesson monitor reports are. As in, I can't run a simple attendance analysis with YTD att + no of lates by reg grp AND year grp on one sheet!? Instead I have to pick my groups (reg then year) individually thus generating different reports that can't even be outputted to Excel. Sorry, rant over. I come from a Cloud School background where the SQL reports made in MS Report Builder were beautiful. My question is, am I missing something and is there any way to output to Excel while preserving the formatting of the original? Copy-pasting doesn't work and I'm currently having to output it as XML then import to Excel which butchers some of the formatting and therefore another ballache. I'm not aware of any way to get attendance by reg/yr grp in Report Designer. Any help would be appreciated!
