  1. I'd love to, but don't have screen capture stuff with me here (don't need it on this site really) nor can I use Skype .. all blocked up .. I'll try and step you through it below though .. Right, open up Notepad (or your preferred text editor) and you need to create something similar to the following - please bear in mind, I've hacked this script a bit from one I've found, so someone might be able to give you a cleaner script - initially, this searched for the CD drive on the machine as one piece of software ran from a CD: Set WshShell=WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Set FileSystemObject = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set Drives = FileSystemObject.Drives For Each DiskDrive in Drives DriveLetter = DiskDrive.DriveLetter DriveType = DiskDrive.DriveType If DriveType = "CD-ROM Drive" Then CDDrive = DriveLetter Exit For End If Next Set Drives = nothing Set FileSystemObject = nothing strCmd="C:\PATH\TO\PROGRAM.EXE" strUser="DOMAIN\ADMIN-ACCOUNT" strPass="ADMINPASSWORD" set WshShell=CreateObject("WScript.Shell") WshShell.Run "runas.exe" & " /u:" & strUser & " " & strCmd WScript.Sleep 1000 WshShell.Sendkeys strPass & "~" When you've created this, save the file somewhere with the extension .vbs and follow the instructions on this page >>> Encrypting VBScript code ( vbs to vbe ) <<< to encrypt the vbs to a vbe. Now, word of warning, this doesn't mean it's unhackable as vbe can be reversed if you know how, but it just means the password isn't immediately available in plain text. Test the script to make sure that it works obviously (if just you testing, you can test the vbs version of it then when it works, convert it). Now, copy (or move) the .vbe file you've created to somewhere accessible by all for them to run the software from (I use the \\domain\NETLOGON area and have a folder within that then deploy short cuts to desktops and/or the Start Menu to let people run the program. And that's it, should get you being able to run the software as an administrator, but then demote the user accounts down to something more sensible within a managed environment. Hope that helps Andy
  2. True, this could be done, but then it's different desktops for different classes depending on which teacher is teaching them at the time .. that get's complicated then ..
  3. I've got a couple of pieces of software here that require an admin account to run, so I've just set up a couple of encrypted scripts that use the RUNAS command to run them as an administrator which gets around it, is that something you could do there to stop them all being admin? Andy
  4. Right, looking at streamlining again, and following a couple of comments from a couple of members of staff, I'm looking to change the way laptops are used. Currently, the laptops are setup pretty much the same as the desktops. That is they have a base image created with Office 2010 on it and all the latest patches for Office and W7 up to that day that I create the base image (usually created in June/July for when I "reset the school" over summer), then the rest of the software is installed via a mix of WPKG-GP and GPO, depending on whether there is an MSI etc. We have 3 distinct sets of software setups: Admin, Staff and Curriculum. Staff and Curriculum are pretty much the same thing, other than the odd piece of management software the students don't need but the staff do on their laptops. Admin is very much the basics (Office, Textease, standard plugins (Flash etc) SIMS and BSquared) so they don't need to have all the educational bits and pieces installed on the curriculum machines. These software sets get installed out to all machines within those groups, so curric workstations are the same as laptops, etc. Now, the issue I'm looking at is a couple of members of staff say they "don't want all the crap installed and why should they have it if they don't need it for their lesson" so I have explained that the laptops are used by the whole school and there's a wide degree of needs from one class to the next, but I'm just wondering what everyone else does. Do I go down the route of stripping them back so they simply have the basics on (essentially like the Admin network but without SIMS etc, obviously) that way they are cleaner to use and separate them off, or do people make them mobile ICT Labs, like ours currently are. I hope that makes some form of sense. Andy
  5. Indeed. Been looking at their SwordFish document Management solution actually, so I've just dropped this into conversation about the possibility of their being the whole SIMS contract up for grabs with a "what can you do to help" remark in there. See what happens
  6. I've not looked at pricing on the SIMS front as yet as they were thinking to keep that, but how does it compare for you with them vs OCL? I'm already looking at Office 365 for the mail as well - like you say, free, and less of a learning curve for staff as they already use the OWA from OCL ..
  7. Afternoon all A school I work in is a SEN school, and I've been approached by one of the assistant heads with regards to some basic cause and effect based software to give the more complex needs children access to choices for rewards. Basically, they want to have the ability to offer up a choice of videos / music / etc to them on the touch screens so they can select the reward and then watch the video / listen to the music / etc. They need it to have a bright button with an image relating to the reward (so if it's watching a video, then a picture of a main character so the child will recognise it as such). They also need there to be a varying number of rewards depending in their level, so 2, 3, 4 or 5 reward choices. I was initially thinking just to code a simple web page on our intranet that has various options built in, but it would be better if we could make this so that the rewards can be altered by staff, so then I thought about possibly using something like Wordpress on our intranet to allow them to set the rewards through the admin interface etc. Wordpress is probably the route I will take, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any other bright ideas or suggestions of existing software that might offer such as thing in place already? Thanks all Andy
  8. When you say too late for you, are you looking at moving away from their services? I only ask as I was having the same discussion with the business premises manager the other day as we're having constant issues at the moment .. I'd be interested to know whether you're looking to change all, or just swap out certain provisions, but keep things such as SIMS support etc?
  9. That's better .. welcome to the thread .. lol ..
  10. I think I might have found it .. it's on the TES website, so it's fair warning that you would need an account to access it and such .. so I feel safe in posting a link to it .. lol .. Dance PowerPoints to encourage movement and dance - Resources - TES
  11. Assuming you're running your own DHCP server, you could put an auto configuration link in WPAD so that as long as the client has the auto detect settings turned on for their device, that should setup the proxy settings for them. It's what I do here and seems to work well for the few people who use it.
  12. You forgot to have a dig at the BBC .. go away, think about what you've done, and come back and try harder! Sheesh! lol ..
  13. First my eyes were burnt with "the purple house" thread I posted over the weekend .. Today, I walk through the hall to what I can only describe (thanks to some words borrowed from Bill Bailey - I'll give them back later) an apocalyptic rave version of the birdy song .. I will try and find a link to this monstrosity .. the kids seemed to like it though ..
  14. Get rid of purple? I don't want to be you when Little-Miss sees that comment.. lol..
  15. So, I came across a link to a house on Right Move after a friend commented on the link on Facebook. I just had to post it here as it just seems an ideal decor for @Little-Miss .. lol.. 4 bedroom semi-detached house for sale in Uxbridge Road, Hillingdon, Middlesex, UB10, UB10
  16. Also, my thread on a similar topic to which a few people replied .. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/how-do-you-do/123341-digitising-school-archives-new-records.html
  17. Hiya I'm looking at this at the moment as well. MStore and Swordfish do seem to be nice products, I've had demos of both, the other I've looked at is a product called Therefore which is a Canon Product (Canon UK - Therefore). They're all pretty much of a muchness to be honest with you. My thoughts thus far: MStore: Nice product, easy to understand interface, links well with SQL lookups and such, runs nicely, redaction is a doddle, as is the version control Therefore: Again, a nice product. I like the fact that the administration is done through it's own system in terms of the folder structure, lookups, workflows, and what not. Can use hot key control and screen scraping technology to work ith pretty much any product out there (including SIMS) to make sure you're filing under the same pupil as you want to from your access in SIMS. The interface has a very Microsoft feel to it in an attempt to make it less of a change for staff to get their heads around as well, very straight forward searching abilities. Swordfish: Another nice product, doesn't really do anything more than the other products, but at £2000/year for support (and that was a price for us as a relatively small school) it seems rather a lot to pay, but then you do get the fact that you know it will work with SIMS and will always work with SIMS, plus despite the fact it's a system in it's own right, it links directly with SIMS in the fact there is even a button to go to that record in SwordFish from any user profile page. It also ties in a lot more in the fact it takes over from the document storage for SIMS itself, so any documents you might have normally stored within SIMS (photos, letters, etc) are moved into Swordfish and then you get all the version control functionality. In summary for me, I think if it wasn't for the £2000 support tag, Swordfish would be the better option to go for because it links in, but out of the other 2, Therefore seems to be more understandable and a bit more userfriendly. The only downside I can see from this is (certainly with Apogee who we are looking to supply Therefore if we go down that path) we would have to do the leg work to sort out what file structure we would like in the Doc Management system, where MStore and Swordfish have existing Educational Setups that you can then adapt to your needs, but it just gives you a starter for 10. In terms of contacts, Swordfish I went direct to Capita, MStore the Arena Group and Therefore I went to the Apogee Corp Professional Services Team. I'll PM you their details so I don't go shoving them for all to see. I hope that helps somewhat, to be honest, I've had demo after demo, so my heads a bit mashed with it at the moment, but I've tried to whittle out some sense to hopefully help you along the way.
  18. Ok, found a way to make the Mac run it on boot by having a user auto login and having that as part of the startup items for login, but ideally I want to run this at system boot without a user having to log in to facilitate this. Any suggestions? Andy
  19. Hi Folks Right, looking to move our Unifi controller to running on our Mac Mini Server as it's sat there not doing a great deal to be honest. I'm just trying to find out a way of getting the controller to run as a service / daemon on Mac though. I can do it on Linux (which I'd shove it on if I had a linux server running in the school, but we don't really need one at the moment so...), I can do it on Windows, but I can't seem to find out where I do it on Mac. Anyone got any useful pointers for me? Thanks Andy
  20. Meh .. was worth a shot .. you never know .. Good luck in sorting it ..
  21. It's not linked to the fact you need to have access to googlevideo.com is it (as covered in this thread >> http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cleo/126344-there-problem-youtube-through-cleos-proxy-servers.html) I've been having an issue, but as soon as that was added into our filter, it worked again.
  22. I was just coming on here to find out if anyone else had this issue, and the gv link sorted it. Whoop! Ta EDIT: Just as a side note, I thought "I'll just see what googlevideo.com brings up" and it redirected me to video.google.com, by default, blocked on CLEO filters .. so I've added that in as well .. you never know how far down the rabbit hole Google will want to take you on this one! lol ..

    A3 scanners

Do you not have any MFPs that are network capable for scanning and such? It's what we've done here, the only scanner we still have in school (which will be going soon as we've just got a small MFP in the IT room) is in our IT room to show students how scanners work and such. I know it's then dependent upon that MFP being close to the DT Dept, but you never know, might save you a few pennies. Other than that, there's not much below £500 out there, so it depends on what you mean by "hopefully cheap" ..
  24. I didn't sadly. They use something from our County advisors now that I think is quite paper based.
  25. Nope, not come across Copy .. I'll take a look at that (and don't mind using the Affiliate link )
