That would explain a lot then and makes me happy as I'm looking to buy a new DSLR myself - just waiting to see what Canon bring out as a followup to the 60D before I either get the new one, or get the 60D cheaper because the new one comes out. lol.

You mean the builtin auto finger breaker didn't do the job for you? sheesh .. of all places, you should know that brand is spelt on here! lol ..

Not so long ago, I'd have suggested Jessops as that's where we got all our kit from before hand. Failing that though (obviously) I tend to search Amazon, as they normally have good prices, then contact store owners to see if they'll take a school purchase order (unless you're a lucky one who has a credit card etc, in which case you can just buy directly). Edit: Although, having said that, I see their website is still trading (I never did follow up where they went, did they get help, are they in business etc) but even so, probably worth while getting from a company that is a bit more stable in case of warranty worries etc.

Glad to be of service. I've had this issue repeatably about 12 months following the release of the updated version of ArcServe. I've been through a few versions, always seem to be able to skip one version though. So either MS are changing something that breaks ArcServe, or there's something in the CA, but seems to be a recurring issue annoyingly (I suspect it's MS updates that break arcserve, but CA don't fix it because they have a new version out). Was it a Portmap error on the blue screen generally If so, you'll probably find that goes away, although 16.5 is the latest version so, I could be wrong with the above too. Do you have shadow copies enabled on this server? As that was the other thing someone pointed me in the direction of it possibly being.

I'd had to give a +1 for the Unifi Kit as well. Seriously well priced and functional robust pieces of kit. As has been pointed out, it has a free software controller so bang it on your server (with a bit of playing about it will run as a service too which makes it even easier). Certainly worth the look in for my money. Looking to roll it out at a couple of other places shortly.

HPs own supplied Management Software is what I use. Monitors the disks and such, shows if there is any issue. If installed, it should show on the start menu under HP System Tools. What errors are you getting on the bluescreen out of interest? Just I had some issues a while back that look like they were being effected by some kind of shadow volume issues, but were causing hiccups linked with our backup software (CA ArcServe).

*Hangs Head in Shame* I fear I should be removed from the IT Brotherhood temporarily, it was my boo boo. I've been setting up DFS Shares in prep for some changes over summer, and I'd set one up for this software, that showed as a shortcut in the folder (I hadn't meant to enable it but alas) and forced the actual folder to being disrupted. Removed that and I think I've got that all sorted now. I'll go sit in a corner somewhere with a Dunces Cap on until further notice .. lol ..

Lancs are currently investigating Office365 and Google Apps for replacement of their service (or they certainly were at the start of the year when I started to look into this myself). Personally, I'd look into running either yourself, as others have pointed out, they're free for education these days, just a case of filling a few online forms out, if they feel they need to verify you further they will do, but mainly it just get's the rubber stamp within a week or two and you can get on with setting users up and such. It saves you investing in the hardware to run exchange or similar, and is all looked after and costs you no more than you currently pay effectively. Also, having it as your main thing gives you additional control that I'm pretty certain Lancs probably aren't going to filter down to everyone despite things being there. The only thing you'd need to do is get county to update the MX Pointers for you on the domain, assuming you use the schools main domain as provided on the lancs.sch.uk, to point to either the MS or Google Servers, and probably open a few ports to your school as well in terms of email access if you want people to use desktop applications such as Outlook as well, if you're looking to push just webmail, then you don't need to bother with the ports.

Basically, for some reason, there has been a shortcut created that seems to redirect back to a folder of the same name in the same location (I can only assume someone was trying to be helpful), so this short cut has caused the DFS to throw a wobbly and that has renamed the actual folder to being DFS.some random reference string.. so I'm trying to get rid of the shortcut so that I can get the DFS folder back to something sensible being. I can only assume some kind member of staff using the desktop shortcut found the thing not be working, so copied the intranet shortcut and tried creating a shortcut, meh, I don't know, it is a mess .. I might just have to relocate all the files under a different name and push out new shortcuts ..

Ok, so here's a weird on. I've got a shortcut in a network share to a piece of software (usual story, purchased without really investigating it and things needed setting up in a specific way etc etc). Anyway, the shortcut had failed - don't know why, but I'm trying to do things a different way, but could do with deleting the shortcut to stop all the questions (or even just renaming the thing) however, when I try to do either I just get: So, I can't get rid of it and I can't rename it, so I'm sort of stuck with it, but need it gone so I can replace it with something that works instead. Fun Times! Any suggestions? Thanks Andy T

Yes, but can you not see there is a simple misunderstanding.. @elsiegee40 was trying to respond to your issues .. you haven't really seemed to be on receive with regards to the responses that have been given, just on strike mode which makes their job as mods and admins all the harder.. Fact, you said "Edugeek was here to help us, all its done by removing it has made things harder." which is what she was disagreeing with. Just accept, it was a simply a misunderstanding on which part she didn't agree with. They needed to check something, they couldn't say something at the time, the issue is dealt with, the post is back, people are working on a fix, job done, and all very promptly given the fact @ZeroHour will of had to consult a number of different area and organisations I'm sure! -

For what it's worth, I think you will find that @elsiegee40 was saying she didn't agree that taking away the post was making things harder to solve. You were already aware of the issue, many of the big players in the filtering business were on the case, as were a lot of the GFLs around the country thanks to the fact this issue was raised on EduGeek. If there were CP concerns with the thread then taking it down is the right thing to do, with or without an explanation. They may simply (as has been pointed out) not had an explanation to give, or be able to say anything about it until fully investigated as they have their own backs to watch too in terms of legal cases being brought against them. I for one think that they operate a brilliant resource, and for one item been taken down for just over an hour is quite impressive to get a resolve. -
Have you tried just the mix or just a single channel? I think if you plug them all in then you might hit issues, I may be wrong, but my ashton only likes either the mix or the separates being used. In terms of the output on the receivers, again if it's like my ashton, there will be a volume control on each channel that you change using the up and down buttons but it won't be meaningful numbers as such, simply a range (I think mine is 0-60 so I generally have them set at 45). I would chase through my suggestions about if you're still not getting anywhere. If you plug the mics in and press the PFL button on that channel, does the the LED strip light up at all on the top right of the Folio? As the PFL will switch that main mix monitor to being a specific channel monitor. If you're getting lights, then sound is hitting the desk and the issue lies somewhere after that (so either the outputs as described above or possibly the connection between the desk and the amps).
-
PFL is Pre Fader Listen - basically means you can check input on a channel before it hits the fader - useful for finding where the annoying squeal is, or for using the EQ to set mics etc. Anyway, the F1 desk does have gains to the top of each channel (Grey Knob with Red on it if I recall) - used to work with one on a smaller PA rig I managed. Best thing to do is plug a set of headphones in, plug the mics in, then press the PFL, and see if you get anything out, if not, turn the gain knob up until you do. If you're getting something out there, then check that the routing on the F1 (hang on, going to Google is to remind myself ... right) is set to go to the right place - so the smaller desks go pretty much straight to the master, if it's a larger desk, you might need to depress a button labelled LR to get it through (probably also buttons marked 1-2, 3-4, etc if this is the case) then it should go straight to master. Then double check your wiring is going from the right output on the desk to the amp etc. If you don't get anything, it could be the desk has seen it's best, but they are quite solid workhorses to be fair.
-
What desk do you have? Most audio desks have pre-amps / gains built in. Check you don't have a PAD pressed in which will reduce the input level, or make sure your gains are turned up as well as the faders.

Aye, nothing there. Meh.. it's my own daft fault, shows doing work like that whilst trying to fend off teachers isnt' the best option at the end of the day.. lol.. *must read the screen more*

Wow.. Congratulations first off! For my speech I went for a couple of geeky Mac Fan Boy gags (as everyone knows I am one) for instance, I started by saying "So, apparently this is the point when I'm to give some kind of speech. I have to be honest with you, I only found out about half an hour ago, but then I remembered that great advertising slogan, and sure enough, there's an app for it" cue pulling out my iPhone and making a couple of purposeful gaffs in a Ron Burgandy reading whats on the prompt styley (though not the sweary types, just daft things and a few in jokes amongst friends) - then got on with what everyone else has already said, all the thank you messages, how beautiful everyone looks, gifts, etc. Whilst the best mans speech is traditionally the funny one (and my best man did do a very good job of that) there's nothing in the rule books that say you can't make a couple of quips too. It's whatever you feel most natural doing. If you're more of a joke about kind of guy, then make the odd joke at the start and such, if you're more a serious dude, then don't - just don't forget all the thank yous and don't show up your best man if you are going to throw a few gags in.
