Whilst banning is possibly not the best way to go about the issue, the school do need to enforce the 'knee length only' rule consistantly, with sanctions if the rule is not adhered to. As a male member of staff, I'd find the current situation very uncomforatable - and potentially open to allegations from pupils. Although it's not too much of a problem at the school I'm in, sometimes one has to avert their eyes quickly, due to some of the standards of dress of the females. The old battleaxe who dealt with uniform at the school I went to would never have put up with that! Nobody would have dared crossed her either! Some of the reader comments in the Daily Mail article made me laugh though: "Some schoolgirls look like hookers as I drive by them on my way into work. I'm no prude, I think if you've got it, flaunt it, but short skirts are for weekends ONLY, NOT school" The person who wrote that, does have a very valid point though!

'On an Island' is excellent, as is the 'Live in Gdansk' album, which was part of Gilmore's tour to promote 'On an Island'. Been listening to quite of bit of their live 'PULSE' album the last few days. Wonder if they will release it on Blu Ray at all?

A quick update! Never did get a reply from ASRock support, but my work colleague got his system built and the E5200 was correctly identified by the BIOS and works fine, so that's a result!

First I've heard of these requirements. I guess not a bad thing (having been through sight issues after retinal detachment), but then as Sylv3r says, surely it's power you'd want to stand out. FWIW, the last load of data socket installs I had done in April were the standard white ones.

I'd buy a couple if they are cheap, so if the RAID controller fails, you don't loose the array with it. Moving RAID arrays between controllers with different chipsets can be troublesome. At least this way you can swap the controller and be back in business with a minimum of fuss!

Thanks - unfortunately, within the BIOS, there seems to be no option to set the multiplier, only the freqeuncy. I did e-mail ASRock this morning, so hopefully will hear back from them soon with a response.

I'm currently running a Core 2 Duo E8400 on an ASRock Wolfdale1333-GLAN/M - details http://http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=Wolfdale1333-GLAN/M&s=775. As I'd like to move to having 8GB RAM and also the option to upgrade to a Core 2 Quad at a later date, I'm going to replace the board with an Asus P5Q Pro (and buy the 8GB RAM at the same time). One of my workmates wants to build a low-cost bu decent system for his parents and has offered to take the ASRock board, plus 4GB of DDR2 667 (4x1GB Kingston ValueRAM modules) that I've already installed on the board. He'd like to fit an E5200 processor, but we can't seem to find any sign of the E5xxx processors listed on the CPU support list - ASRock > Products > Wolfdale1333-GLAN/M > CPU Support List. I've flashed the BIOS to the latest version already and am bit surprised at not seeing the E5xxx series listed, as the board will take faster CPU's such as the E8400. Does anyone know if an E5xxx series CPU will work on this board? Many thanks for any advice, Neil

One thing to check is to make doubly sure you select the correct input on the amp and then turn on the XBox. I've got a Mac Mini connected to an Onkyo TX-SR606 for HTPC duties and unless the Onkyo is set to the correct input before the Mac is turned on, I get no display on the TV. I think it is due to a HDMI handshaking issue. FWIW, I run both an HTPC and DVD/HDD recorder via my amp to the TV an it's connected as follows: DVD/HDD recorder - Video: Component, Audio: Digital Co-ax Mac Mini - Video: DVI to HDMI cable, Audio: Digital Optical I then run an HDMI cable from the amp to the TV with a DVI to HDMI adapter on the TV end (no HDMI connector). Works a treat! Wierdly, once I have done above (amp set to source before powering up HTPC), I can switch back and forth between the inputs for the HTPC and DVD/HDD recorder with no issues, so I definately think it's some form of handshaking issue, As an added bonus, any component or composite signal going into the Onkyo gets upscaled to 1080i if you are using the HDMI output to the TV. I only see 720p, as that';s the max my TV will support, but it still looks pretty stunning.

Personally, I'd go with single volumes (partitions) and a decent folder structure. I made the mistake of going down the multiple partition route on one of our earlier servers (now retired) and it came round and bit me in the butt a few years later when disk space issues cropped up. Have since learned my lesson! Not a lame question at all, BTW. We all have to start somewhere and it's much better to ask if you're unsure.

I've bought in 14 of them for use at our school and am rather impressed with the hardware. They look similar to the Tecra A9 series and I think, inherit some of the design features. In fact, thinking about it, they offer a serial port, as the Tecra's do, so I would be inclined to say that they are actually based on the Tecra A9 chassis. They certainly seem more robust then the L49 series, which I have issued to staff, although have had no problems. We also have some Tecra A9s and these have also been excellent - one had a motherboard failure, but this was resolved and returned to us by Toshiba within 2 weeks.

Also check to see if you have any USB storage devices plugged in and powered up on boot up. If so, disconnected them. I've seen this on a few PCs over the years. where they will hang during the RAM count of the POST procedure. Gave me a fright the first time, as I thought I was dealing with a dead hard drive or some other piece of misbehaving hardware!

Another thumbs up for the Three Hundred. My home PC is built around this and it's excellent - plenty of space, good cooling and nicely constructed.

Ah, I see what you mean now. Some places are more flexible than others when it comes to it being another members of the family.

School finishes on the 19th and so do I. First proper long holiday I've had all year and won't be in till the 5th of Jan. Plenty of sleep. lazing around. listening to music, watching DVDs, mucking about on the computers and boozing! stevenewman - do you not get time off at all for hospital appointments then? The reason I ask is that' it's never been a problem here thankfully, as I had quite a few visits last year due to eye torubles.

Hiya all, Hope you're all having a good summer and either enjoying a relaxing one or not working too hard if at work! I'm looking to implement a web-based Help Desk system, in order to kewp track of ICT incidents - e.g. hardware/software issues and also ICT requests - e.g. VLE changes etc. from staff. It would also sort out the issue of performance management, if it ever came up. so that I would have something tangiable to show SLT if asked. Plus. the ability to update support incidents with a 'progress update' would be useful, so that people can see we're actually working on the problem and haven't forgotten them. Does anyone know of a good, free web-based Help Desk system that could do this? I'd also like Active Directory Integration, so I can easily grant staff access to log an incident - obivously I don't want students being able to do this. AD integration would mean one less set of user accounts to maintain, as we could just grant access by security groups that we've already defined. E-mail notification to technical staff of raised incidents would also be a very useful feature. Windows-based would be preferable, although Linux is a possiblitiy - I'm going to host this on it's own virtual server. I tried Liberium (Liberum Help Desk), but didn't have any luck getting it up and running. Any idwas and suggestions would be much apprecated! Many thanks, Neil

The funny thing is on my home PC, where all the hard drives are S-ATA, I've not had to use the -NOIDE switch - Ghosting speeds are pretty fast. The only problem is that Ghost and other tools such as Partition Magic running off a DOS boot CD take a while to load up. I might see if the -NOIDE switch makes a difference if I get a minute over the weekend.

Thanks for the offers of help guys. I've cracked it - basically, the Broadcom drivers don't like a static IP address. I've no idea why, as an older batch of Dells that I have with Broadcom chipsets were quite happy with static IPs. Ghosting happily now using boot floppies at about 450mb/s - once I'd remembered the -noide switch to pass to Ghost on start up.

Hi all, My batch of 5 arrived today. Does anyone have any pointers as to which drivers they used? I've been getting an 19913 error from Ghost about a DHCP server when I go and use the Multicast option. The weird thing is that I'm not even using DHCP - I use static IPs for Ghosting. Any help/ideas would be much apprciated - after about two and a half hours this afternoon, I've still not come up with any solution. Thanks, Neil

Have got the 2003 version at work and the 2000 version here at home. I can highly recommend any stuff by Minasi - always well written, informative, interesting and with a bit of humour thrown in.

Not sure if this is relevant, but you can also block the installation of IE7 via Group Policy. Might be worth a check to see if this is enabled. *Note to self, must configure such block, as I'm holding off on IE6 for the forseable future at work
