First three weeks of the summer holidays off. Cambridge Folk Festival, end of July. Recover/detox from that, planning a weekend just across the Channel somewhere to stock up on cheap baccy. Someone I know has half persuaded me to join a battle re-enactment society, so I might go for that. Otherwise, out for top-down drives wherever the fancy takes me. East Anglia coast is always nice. Work-wise.....nothing.....no money.

England out. USA through. Scary. I've always thought that if 'soccer' (quaint term) ever took off in a big way over there, then we can all watch out. The resources they have, the population to choose from and their will to succeed at whatever they do. I don't think Belgium will have an easy game, but I think they'll win.

The whole thing is a nonsense. FIFA are so desperate not to offend any of the South American countries and for the main ones to remain in the tournament as long as possible. He should have had a lifetime ban. End of story. Liverpool, if they have any integrity at all, will terminate his contract, at whatever cost.

The price and availability of tickets down White Hart Lane last season was enough to make me start thinking about going to Luton or Stevenage, I'm pretty well-placed for both of those. My football (Spurs) mad grandson lives in Luton but when I asked if he'd like to go and see them, he just looked at me strangely and said, 'Why?'. Depressing thing is, he's only 9 but gets to more Spurs games than I do.

It should be the absolute minimum the Premier League do. If they have to foot the the bill for terminating his club contract in order to impose a lifetime ban, well, they've got loads of money.

I would think it will definitely be the end of Liverpool's title challenge next season. The club itself should make a stand and cut him loose, pay him off, terminate his contract. .......and out we went, not with a bang but with a whimper. I thought our 'Young Lions' would go off like a train and get an early goal, forcing Costa Rica to have to win the game. Last night really showed up our short-comings. Sturridge on the edge of the box with no one else within 3 yards of him and he didn't even work the keeper. Lampard knocking it long every other attack. The defence just weren't properly tested at all, so we still have a question mark over Jones, Smalling and Shaw. Costa Rica did what they had to do without even breaking a sweat. I rather think they could do us by more than one goal, if they can be really bothered. I'm guessing they'll field a strong enough team to win, they'll want to top the group just for the kudos, never mind an easier Round of 16 game. The right side of our back four looks there for the taking, Jones and Smalling, neither of whom are International class players, nor ever will be for anyone other than England. I think they'll be out the door at Old Trafford when van Gaal arrives in July. Stephen Caulker, even though he was relegated is a much better centre back than Smalling or Jones, but doesn't play for a 'fashionable' club. Gary Medel, the other Cardiff centre back, has had a good World Cup so far.

The FA don't put enough money into grass-roots football. Our qualified coaching numbers and infrastructure is laughable compared to the the Dutch, Spanish and German models. When I was refereeing, how many times did I hear well-meaning Dads on the touchline screaming at their kids to 'Get rid of it' or to 'Work harder'. Hardly conducive to anything more than long-ball-over-the-top or run-around-like-a-headless-chicken. I looked at tickets for the Peru friendly just before all this kicked-off. I'd guess prices were (on average) £60. Times that by 80,000 and you get full-house receipts of £4.8million. I know these figures are very approximate, but they can't be that far from the real thing. Add in the gate receipts from every whipstitch little final and semi final (Autoglass Front Bumper and Headlights or Johnson's Paint Sample or whatever) and the FA start to make quite a bit of money. Where does it all go?
