We were all told that "considerable" work was done over the weekend but here we are again. Not good enough I'm afraid. We pay a lot of money for this service. :-(

Feel for you Nathan- I too recommend them to one of our cluster schools and also look like a fool!

Also we are finding that even after services have been restored our filters take a long time to actually start working properly again. Lessons disrupted, staff unable to work, its really been appalling.

We have been having the same issues at my school for the past few weeks too, on Filter 11. This has been totally unacceptable and I too will no longer be recommending them to any of partner or trust schools. I will also be looking at ways we can cancel our contract early and change supplier. I accept that downtime will happen, that's part of IT, but this is meant to be an enterprise level provider and our service has been worse than my £10 per month home broadband recently!

Thanks Guys- we are using Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection. It does detect it and and tries to delete the infected files but more often that not fails. We then end up having to restore the folder. You are correct that our staff have the ability to install software on their own laptops but taking this priliagave agway would be a major headache too! So far students have not been hit but worried they will be soon.

Hi All, Are any other schools having problems with this horrible encryption virus thing ( Ransom Testcrypt.)? Its causing us a major headache and I cant seem to find a patch or fix to prevent it. The only way we seem to be able to get rid of it at moment is to delete the files and folder and restore from unaffected backup. Obviously though, this isn't really practical and won't prevent it from coming back! Its affecting network drives, staff laptops everything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Dear All, Does anyone have a HP Procurve wireless network? We have a MSM760 controller and MSM422 Access points. We were operating in a mixed mode b/g/a/n as we had some older clients and access points which didn't support n but these have now gone. I would like to now change and run in n mode only. Does anyone know what changes I need to make in VSC section to make this happen? Thanks in advance.

Hi All, We migrated from Windows XP\Server 2003 to Windows 7\Server 2008 this summer and have been having issue with calendar sharing in MS Outlook. When we used to use Exchange 2003\ Outlook 2007 staff was able to share their personal calendars with one another. However since the new system it there appears to be permissions issue which is preventing them from doing this. From Outlook users get the following message when they try to prepare sharing with another user: "Error while preparing to send sharing message" I had a quick read online and it mentioned default sharing policy which I checked and seems to enable sharing for our users. Several Forums also suggested to see if users could share via Outlook Web Access. The message work but then even after accepted they still could not access one another calendar’s (It just came up blank). Further reading has suggested to me that it could be something does with the Auto discover virtual directory service not running but I am unfamiliar with this. Any ideas? I'm sure this may be a common issue when moving from exchange 2003 to 2010 but I can't seem to find an answer. I’m hoping it’s something quite simple! In case I didn’t mention it this issue is affected all users. Thanks in advance! James

Hi all, Just wanted to get everyone’s view on this. We are a secondary school and just had our EMBC renewal prices for 2010/11 and 2011/12. Suffice to say we are not happy. Our 2010/11 is around £8000 while our 2011/12 cost as jumped to £23,000 p/a!! This is a massive jump that will cut right into the schools ICT budget as I did not plan for such a huge increase. It’s such a big jump that I am thinking of looking at other educational Broadband providers (there must be other alternatives), as I believe this cost is outrageous for simply supplying broadband. Yes I know EMBC offer lots more but at my school we only use them as broadband and filtering providers. Does anyone know what the implications of moving from EMBC are and if any schools have done it? We have just taken on an ICT apprenticship at my school. Really good scheme- he will do 4 days on site and 1 day release at college. He comes out with a BTEC in ICT Care and Support (or something likle that) and 2 Comptia A+ qualifications. The course will last 18-24 months. Employers can pay between £90 and £150 per week- we have offered £130 per week for ours. At the end of the 24 months the school may offer a full time post but if not the person will leave with a great wealth of experence and qualifications to continue study or go to next job.

Interesting that the school never opted for student wireless laptops- I suppose this isnt needed when you have a new build.

Given the massive changes most IT school people had had to their saleries pending the review I would say the salery offered here means nothing unless they can confirm it has been subject to good old P & B!

Hi Guys, Wondering if anyone has come across this problem and might be able to help. We used public folders in exchange for a school shared calendar. Only a few users have write access to it the rest have read. Anyway one of the users has been updating it for next year which has worked fine. All the appointments and dates are showing globally and can be seen by all users etc. The problem is that the staff like to colour code the appointments, by assigning a categories to it. On the users laptop the colours all show fine however when views on another machine the colours do not appear- just the appointment. To make matters even weirder, when another user assigns a categories (colour) to an appointment it DOES show globally- even on the original users machine. I'm really scratching my head about this one. It can't be a permission issue as he has full write access (and wouldn’t be able to add anything if he didn’t). I thought it might be a sync issue (between his local laptop and exchange), however in that case the appointments he entered would not be showing at all (with or without colours). I've had a sniff on the web and it appears we are not the first to have this issue but as of yet have been unable to find a solution. We are running Outlook 2007 with Exchange 2003. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received! Cheers in advance!

Hi All, Hoping to get a few opinions on this. I'm looking to replace our network backup solution this summer. We are a CC3 school currently backing up about 400GB a day on LTO 3 tapes using an external drive. As you can know we are pretty much at the capacity of these tapes and also have the issue of the backup taking well into the afternoon to complete. I am keen to look at a disk to disk to tape solution using a SAN and possibly LTO 4 tapes. RM have come back to me with a solution that fits the bill but is over 10K and I dont have the budget for this. I only have about 4K to spend- not even sure if it can be done on this amount!! Anyway I'm interested to hear from anyone who was in a simulair situtaion and what they did to sort the problem. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!
