Not sure if it would make any difference but the text i put in was */search?q* with a q at the end, but a normal google search url does not have the q part. would this make any difference to cachepilot.

Hi That didnt work for me but i have just worked out that you can block the cache using For some reason it doesnt like the = sign. As if i put in */search?q=* it allows the site. I cant imagine any other sites that have that in there search string and if they do bad luck to them.

I see this happen alot and what i do is when teacher walks over to pupil i take control of his pc and teacher catches him. lol

This is something i have often wondered about as we get this sometimes, a teacher wanted me to ban a kid from the computers for a week for drinking in a lesson. I find it is often teachers not able to punish the kids appriopriately. Some dont want the responsablily and just pass it on to someone else. I try to explain taht we ban for misuse of computer equipment but the teachers have a cautioning system for other things that happen in class.

we use lanview too, i have set all computers to shutdown but this will only shutdown the ones that are not logged on, then later on in the night i have a forced shutdown set which will shutdown even a logged on machine. we told the staff that if they dont shutdown they could loose there work. The machines are woke every morning before i come in, plus they have a uptime so i can see how long each machines has been on. I once found a machine had been on for 21 days.

We charge i think £10 for a replacement pen, one teacher had 3 replaced in a month, if he breaks his next pen he will not be getting another. So now he keeps very good care of his pen, i think he locks it in his draw every time he leaves the rooms fear that he wont have another.

Does anyone know the equivalant for reading a txt file as i would like to dome something like this with our admin staff, but using php and mysql.

It is strange as it works through internet explorer, and seems to work fine with windows media player. it almost seems that the way it authenticates doesnt work in quicktime or real player. i think i will contact the manufacturers and ask them about this.

Althought we get the prompt to add our credentials the main problem is that no matter what i put in, it still will not go out over the internet.

Hi Does anyone with version 4 cachepilot have any problems viewing either realplayer videos or quicktime videos. We have a cachepilot, which has been set up to authenticate uses from active directory. Internet explorer seems to work fine authenticating this way, as does windows media player, they both dont prompt for any logon boxes. But both quicktime and real player both look at the internet explorer proxy settings and each time ask for the cachepilot log on, it does not let me out if i put in either, the active directory password or a user account local to the cachepilot. To be honest i havnt a clue what to do now about this. At the moment i am just telling staff that viewing quicktime or real video is not possible over the internet. Does anyone have any ideas even if it was a script of some kind that included a standard password, or even some way of forcing both programs to bypass the cachepilot completely. Tom

i had noticed the ip range they use, i have blocked http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cache i dontknow how that will work thought imagine how big the ip range could possibly be. unless there is a way on cachepilot v3 to block part of a url such as the "search?q=cache" bit. but i have come up empty handedd up to now.

I have had a look on the forum and havnt noticed any posts regarding this but if i am mistaken, i am sorry for reposting. A few of our students have noticed that they can get on any website with google cached pages. Does anyone know if it is possible to block access to this.

I think i will do that, i stopped answering them after the first 15 calls. i though they would give up calling me. Were you having a similar problem. what happened in your case.

Someone earlier said they had a similar problem about staff having got hold of there personal mobile number. Currently the office have my number and today i had about 50 calls from them, all diverted calls from the staff, now i am getting pretty annoyed as they have freely handed my number out and anyone seems to think they can ring me whenever they like. What ready annoyed me, was the receptionist gave me a dirty look and said "dont you answer your phone", you can guess i was fuming and prob know what i wanted to say back to her. Does anyone know what i can do about this?

we just removed the gateway altogether, but we have found that admin staff who use outlook without the gateway they email does not work. So we are going to set up many scopes and a superscope, so that curriculum machines will not have the gateway and admin machines and other machines will do. dont know if this is the best way to go but it will prob solve those problems. i dont know about setting gateway to cachepilot address not sure if it works that way. test see and if you find anything let us know.

I can understand the point of view they need to work from home and the such, but what i dont get is why get internet access in your home when you dont have a computer. surely you would own a computer first then get internet access. We use the offline files system to allow staff to sync the documents and then use it at home.

internet is still working fine, but now the smt couldnt get on to the internet, but this was due to them bypassing the cachepilot to access the internet freely, when i asked why they did this, they said so they could get onto blocked sites. we let them access the proxy settings as they are allowed to access the internet at home and need to turn the proxy off, i dont think they should be allowed internet access at home.

I have had that, i have never asked anyone to pay for me to look at there pc, i let them offer me, i guess it could be classed as a gift on there part for my help. dont know if that then aviods from tax, lol.
