Witch.. Thanks for your reply. Is that with roaming profiles? or just mapping a home drive? mine are being deleted off the server, after redirecting correctly.

Hello All, I was wondering if anyone has had problems with home shares being deleted upon first login to Windows 7? We have had to restore allot of students personal shares from backup, and the only common factor we could find is that they have all logged onto a new Windows 7 suite (rest of the network is still in the dark ages, running XP). This isn't all students, just about 20 of them so far. Google searches have so far been unsuccessful in finding an answer. I couldn't find anything glaringly obvious in group policy, Domain functional level is 2003 (although we have one 2k8r2 DC) if that makes a difference. I wondered if it was anything to do with Library settings??? can't see how though. I know it hasn't happened to every user, as there are also about 30 shares that now display as "Documents". I know that that is to do with the desktop.ini file, but I can't believe that the best solution from MS is to go through and disable read permissions for administrators. Any help or info would be gratefully received.

I don't think they are invoicing multiple parties, I was just a bit concerned by the lack of responses from the LGA. By Shady, I mean we haven't had definitive replies to questions about the validity of the agreement. If you say the LGA holds a valid agreement for schools then that's good enough for me, just a bit paranoid about audits / public spending scandals etc... Thanks guys.

Hi, We have recently switched software suppliers, and have used Phoenix for a few bits of server software. However, when I tried to get access to download through the MSVLS website, I discovered that the select agreement was for the Local Govornment Assosiation, who are a voluntary lobbying body, and have yet to hear anything from them about granting us access. I'm a bit worried that the agreement is for an organisation that would appear to have very little to do with our school, and as such do we have legitimate licences for our servers? Phoenix have so far been pretty shady on the issue, maybe it's just my cynical nature or maybe there is cause for concern. I was wondering if anyone else has bought Microsoft licences through Pheonix, and had the same problem. Thanks all Ben

Hi Difinity, You may want to look up Mysysprep, You run it along side sysprep, and it will detect which HAL and storage driver the system needs and will apply the drivers, this means that you can have one universal image that will work on about 95% of hardware, from netbooks to those old p3's we've all got gathering dust to dual core + machines. Also look at driverpacks ( DriverPacks.net) They have compiled large collections of pretty much every driver for every bit of hardware you are ever likely to have installed. Primarily designed for creating slipstreamed install disks, but works great for ghost / WDS images. It can take a bit of legwork the first time, but boy is it worth it. The best thing to do is build the images on a virtual machine (use the free vmware player, and configure a VM using this handy website EasyVMX!: Virtual Machine Creator), as virtual machines are very generic by nature. Hope that is of some use to you.
