Hi everyone, Our institution has ditched Moodle in favor of teams and I now need a place to host general resources that all students had access to on Moodle. My initial though would be to have a SharePoint that is accessed via Viva Connect. This tech is all pretty new to me but I know I'd like to: Set up a SharePoint with named editors and with non editing access for the whole organisation. Set teams up so that the Viva Connect app is installed and pinned so staff and students don't have to do it. Limit the content and features of VC so it only shows the SharePoint and not the other options (e.g. Viva, Connections, Learning, feed). So basically I can tell students to open Teams, click the Viva Connect link and see the SharePoint. I'm not sure if this is at all possible? Anyone using this tech with their students? Hiya, We have our Moodle (web box and DB box) on Oracle Linux box (VM) and have dnf - automatic enabled to install updates in the background. It looks like an update this week killed our Date Base box by deleting a folder from ssh and a config folder from our MariaDB install. We have managed to recover them for now and disabled dnf - automatic. What we are having trouble with is pinpointing what actually happened. We don't have much Linux knowledge but can't find anything in the logs. Anyone had experience of this? Many thanks in advance, Nige.

Hiya all, We have a few boxes that host our older Moodles that we keep for a few years. Our older ones are running Centos6 and we need to move them to a supported platform. We have chosen Oracle Linux, and upgrading our other boxes has been quite straightforward with Oracle's simple bash script. However, using the script on Centos6 boxes hasn't worked, though 6 is supported by the script. We have ended up with Oracle Linux 6.10. The issues seem to revolve around the repos so I'm wondering what I need to do beforehand to sort the repos out before running the script and also now how do I go about taking OL6.10 up to v.8? Many help would be greatly appreciated Nige.

Hiya all, I've been looking for a solution to push out messages to both staff and student desktops and laptops. There are plenty of cloud based solutions but they can be quite pricey. Can anyone use or recommend a system? Thank you Nige.

Hi all, We have had a couple of incidents whereby unwanted individuals have gained access to a Class team and disrupted it. They are getting into the Class when a students shares the Teem Meeting link that is found under More options/Meeting Details. This is accessible to students when they are a 'Presenter', with this role they can also let guests in from the lobby before a teacher may have noticed. I know we can set all students to be attendees to remove these permissions but at some point during the lesson a teacher will want to have a more interactive relationship and make one or more students a presenter again. Is there a way that this back door can be closed? Is it possible to remove the Meeting Details link from the More option dropdown? Thank you, Nige.

Hiya, Have you installed the mail test plugin? https://moodle.org/plugins/local_mailtest Looks like a certificate issue maybe? Have you tried changing the smtp security settings to none to see if that allows mail? Thanks, Nigel.

Hiya, We have started to use the Chat feature more across our 4 Moodles, however system performance degrades significantly (Moodle becomes unusable with 504 errors trying to log in) when a number of chats are used concurrently. I know M Chat has a reputation of being a load on the server but we would like to see if there is any way to improve things. I haven't managed to get the Moodle Chat Daemon working, I'm not sure what improvement that would bring? I'd like to identify the parts of our server set up that could be tweaked to improve things. I think it is more likely to be a thread issue than a process issue. When I look at system performance 'live' memory usage is quite low. I can't find anything in any of the error logs I looked through - var/log/httpd and var/log/php-fpm. Are there any more logs that would be helpful? Hi Pete, Thanks. It's not a course page packed with activities. It's more for information. There will be some video - not sure if we are using Moodles video capture or if we are going to recored video and put it up on our eStream account. What may be taxing is there will be a number of chat activities where prospective studnets can chat to a tutor. The plan is to have the page accessible for four hours on a particular day. We have the benchmark plugin but they seem to say things are OK. Thanks, Nigel.

Hiya, Not sure if this is a system or a Moodle question! We normally have a welcome day for new studnets, but this year we will have to host in on one of our Moodles. My concern is that our system may not cope with 1000+ concurrent users, at best we usually have 60 or so concurrent users. Is there a way to load test our system to make sure it can cope with this demand?? How should our servers be set up to cope with large numbers?? We use Virtual Servers running Centos7. Specs differ across our Moodles but typically 64 gig dual core machines. Moodle has jmeter as an option but this can't be run on a production Moodle. Thanks in advance, Nige.
