No we never get to go! I really want to! Have a great time!!
-
Anyone going to BETT 2016? I'll be there on Friday and hopefully can stick around unlike last time!
-
In education also. Secondary school, 11-18 with about 1300 students (although number are low the next couple of years ) - How about you?
-
I've probably already asked this but my mind is a bit frazzled this morning, but do you do IT in Education or somewhere else?
-
I thought I replied to this yesterday! I think I must've written a reply then wandered off somewhere. I'm in Derbyshire, also in the countryside!!
-
In Norfolk of all places. And you don't sound horrible, actually you sound a lot like me in that respect. I want to find things out for myself. Where abouts are you?
-
I know exactly what you mean! When it comes to learning new stuff I've always been quite independent, in that, I really don't like being told how to do it (unless I ask!) - I don't like it assumed that I don't know. Haha I sound horrible! I'm really not, but I think it comes back to what you say about looking weak. I'm not an idiot, and will ask when I need to know how to do something, but I like to have a go and try to figure it out myself to begin with. Where in the UK do you work?
-
Something we both have in common then. I think it was my ability to want to learn and my enthusiasm (they try to knock constantly out of me) that got me the job. What I want from Edugeek is a place I can ask software questions and get help from without the embarrassment of looking week in front of the guys. If that makes any sense at all. I simply don't want to look stupid!
-
Oh it's quite the oposite here! I'm really disorganised. My desk is a total mess, although I'm sure I only just cleaned it the other day! My boss' desk is super tidy and organised. Even his desktop is, whereas mine...well, the less said about that mess the better! I got my job just over 2.5 years ago here. I did work in the school already but I really wanted this job so applied for it. I have no qualifications in IT, and no experience other than a personal interest. But as there were already two experienced members of the team, I think I got the job on personality and ability to learn. Which I have done. I've learnt SOOO much!! Especially now we are a team of only 2, I've had to take on a lot more.
-
Haha amazing! We're a school and sixth form as well. We've got the manager and a guy who has been here for years so the two of them are pretty experienced. Then there's me and another new guy. The new guy comes from Uni and is 21 years old. I've spent the last ten years running a pub and doing IT in the background. I'm in my late twenties now and feel sometimes I'm spending a lot of time trying to catch up to him. Which is why they call me Jen lol. But on the plus side I find I work twice as hard to get things done and I'm certainly a lot more organised than the guys. Have you noticed in IT they can only do one issue at a time?
-
I am in a team of 2 - me and a guy (my manager). There were 3 of us, another guy, but he left for a new job and wasn't replaced as the school thought we are okay with just two staff. I work 40 weeks a year and my manager is 52 weeks a year. The school has 1300 students (inc. 6th form) plus over 100 staff so...!!! But I also get called Jen haha! Makes me chuckle though. Nice to know our students watch some good TV. My language isn't great when among my peers, but I of course in school have much better ways to express myself. The other day I came out with 'Gosh dang it!' (I'd been watching Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' haha)
-
I'm a female technician for a high school and college. There's a team of four of us that handle everything and I'm the only girl. Coming from someone who is used to working with women this is kind of a new experience for me. I'm six months into the job and loving it although I keep being called Jen from the IT Crowd just because they know it winds me up! But thankfully I have a great sense of humour so I'm getting along with the guys pretty well. It's just sometimes nice to know there are other female techs out there. I get slightly annoyed when a guy looks at you thinking you can't do the job because you have boobs!

Thank you @elsiegee40 - do you still have any left? I missed this post somehow.

Hello and welcome to the Female Techs Group. Very shortly, Edugeek will be moved off vbulletin and onto another platform which means that this group will cease to exist as the new platform doesn't support groups. Do not despair! We have our very own Female Techs forum which you won't see in your feed until you join it. The forum is here: EduGeek - Female Techs Forum If you would like to join, please go here EduGeek Permission Groups and click on the Join Group button next to Female Techs I hope your first port of call will be our location map (Link: Where are you? A quick survey of Female EduGeeks) as we are trying to see where the clusters are with a view to meeting up. If you have problems getting in to the forum, please PM me. We also have a Female Techs Whatsapp group. If you would like to join that as well, please PM me you mobile number. -
Will be there on Thursday all day. Looking forward to meeting up if possible.
-
Thought I wouldn't be able to make it but can now. I will be there on Wednesday.
-
What a lovely idea, I'm not attending as I'm leaving work, however, school wouldn't be sufficiently interested even if I wasn't. Have a great time and promote us female techs.
-
Keep a look out for Female Techs -The Forum. A special thread on it now.
-
Would be lovely to go but the new network manager gets to go instead of me this year!
-
I will be at BETT all day on the Friday so looking forward to meeting up with a few folk then! Thanks for adding me to the Whatsapp group also.
-
I will be there all day Saturday. Witch has my number as my mobile is not a smartphone so can't do whatsapp. Mid morning suits me best as I have to get back to Newcastle early evening for the dog
