skell Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Hi everyone I'm curious. I've removed unwanted apps from the 1703 wim and deployed it and its working OK. When 1709 comes out, if I upgrade from 1703, will all the apps come back again or will they stay gone?
3s-gtech Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 IME they'll come back, like a festering boil. This is especially tru where MS decides to slightly change the app or its name, as happened with quite a few between 1607 and 1703. I found I just had to modify the WIM again, clearing out the apps by their new names. 1
snagrat Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 I thought from 1703 onwards any removed apps will not return. Previous versions it did but the 1703 version they changed this 1
skell Posted August 2, 2017 Author Posted August 2, 2017 Hmm. Guess we'll have to wait for 1709 to land and test some more.
Arthur Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 When 1709 comes out, if I upgrade from 1703, will all the apps come back again or will they stay gone? The apps won't come back. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/whats-new/whats-new-windows-10-version-1703 Uninstalled in-box apps no longer automatically reinstall Starting with Windows 10, version 1703, in-box apps that were uninstalled by the user won't automatically reinstall as part of the feature update installation process. Additionally, apps de-provisioned by admins on Windows 10, version 1703 machines will stay de-provisioned after future feature update installations. This will not apply to the update from Windows 10, version 1607 (or earlier) to version 1703. Obviously Microsoft could include some brand new apps in 1709 that weren't in 1703 so you would still have to remove these if you didn't want them. 2
