Windows 10 Anniversary update version 14332

Anybody had a play with the new Windows 10 Anniversary update version 14332 yet. First login times seem to be significantly quicker, now down to about 20 seconds but I think they have

messed up by changing the Start Menu again. More live tile apps but these can be turned off with group policy.

Bleh. Turfing over to Windows 10 this summer (would of last year if MS hadn't of launched with the stupid sysprep bug and wasted 2 weeks of my time with other crappy bugs that I got angry and deleted the image ) and awaiting the Anniversary edition education image to be updated as i'll be dammed if i'm going to do an image and then upgrade them all again later... Especially on mechanical drives...

 

I've seen July chucked around so here's hoping.

What are the logon times like? The new anniversary edition is supposed to be speeding up logon time.

My desktops on mechanical on Windows 8.1 take about 2/3 mins on first logon, subsequent logons are 10/15 seconds.

Laptops on the other hand can take anything from 5 to 30 minutes, obviously there's the usual issue of them being off 90% of the time so when turned on for use they start to download Windows updates, then there's 20+ trying to be used all in 1 go against 1 AP etc...

Login times for 1511 are about 1 min 15 first login and about 5-6 seconds after that and that is on older workstations with only 2gb ram and normal 7200rpm drives, not SSD.

Nice, may look at just doing the work on 1511 then.

 

I'm simply going to do an image, strip out all the Appxpackages etc... dump in some local tools for remote use (delprof, psexec etc...) into a hidden support folder and then install Office 2016 and Adobe Suite as both the installs are quite large and take massive bandwidth trying to deploy as applications/packages, Office is especially 50/50 when installing from SCCM in a task sequence whether it be an application or a package and there is no reason behind it.

 

Other than that i'll just lock down the usual GP rubbish and be done with it.

 

Ow and edit the BCDEDIT to stop them booting into the recovery console as of Windows 8...

I've been running this on a VM that I used for Impero and monitor our spam emails. Been happy with it, although I have had the odd lock up but that is expected on beta testing. I prefer the new start menu, I think it looks cleaner.

I think the Start menu is going to be a personal decision. Only concern is when is it going to get released. I think they were stating 29th July which might be a bit late and have also done months

of work on 1511 and know it is now stable and easily deployable.

For tefters: I use PDQ Deploy to roll out CS5.5, Smartboard software etc. Used Adobe package manager to make CS5.5 package and Smartboard package manager as well. I install Office 2016 at source then control with group policy.

SCCM isn't an issue, know it like the back of my hand and use it daily just Office installing as a app/package from it has always been dodge whether it was 2010, 13 or 16 but its going in the base WIM now so easy solution

I already have all the main apps packaged up like Smartboard etc... will just need to download the new versions of Chrome, 123D Design etc... for updates and then assign to task sequences...

 

In short - I just need the bloody anniversary edition whether it be the ISO or whether MS take their sweet ass time like they usually do in which case I will just take the 1511 ISO and then use that WIM and inject the necessary KB's to take it to Anniversary, either way will get me the same result so I can then install Office, Adobe Suite, nobble the AppxPackages and then capture.

 

Windows 10 came mid summer last time so hoping it will be mid July ready for start of Summer holidays on the 22nd July otherwise I'll lose a week waiting for the bloody version.

 

Also Server 2016 needs to hurry up too as I will now how 2 difference user experiences thanks to RDS being stuck on 2012 R2 with the Windows 8 Metro start menu.

Yea same here. Just started to deploy about 30 workstations and about 25 laptops. All sweet because I have done the development work. Would be nice to get the final anniversary ISO about a week before summer break. Had a good play with it already and

have developed it the same as my 1511 so know it works fine.

Other than ripping out the Appxpackages what else do you tweak in the base image before capturing the WIM? Just covering bases here in case I've missed anything obvious.

How are you removing your Appxpackages. I extract the install.wim from the ISO then run a powershell command to remove the apps. I then rebuild the ISO so that I have a base ISO without any apps in it. I remove the user-192 image

that takes off the grey round box on login. Run winlogonchanger 1.5 to set the background for the username/password background. Set default desktop background in local group policy and do reg fix to disable onedrive starting for all users.

Turn off microsoft consumber experience and disable first sign in animation in logal group policy. Change the user account control admin approval mode in local security policy so that you can use everything when logged in as local administrator.

Install .net 3.5. Then sysprep into audit mode and setup local admin account with all the things that need setting up for local profile. Use copy profile in unattend file.

The ink support will be good for touchscreens/smartboards. I prefer the start menu as I've loathed having to click all programs, particularly if frequently used programs are disabled on the start menu.

That sounds promising. Our student devices are old and Windows 10 when I've tested takes a good few mins on first login.

 

Also I've created my staff and student images using HyperV, with this new update is the best solution to just re-create them? It's not a massive job to redo.

You can either re-create the images or inject the KB's when released, both will have the same impact.

Thanks I'll recreate them they aren't massive images so won't take me long to do.

Wouldn't it be nice if MS listened to our feedback and stripped out the junk from the Anniversary Edition Education image by default when it gets released... I know wishful thinking

 

Login speed improvements would be enough to make me change over, all versions of 10 until now have been hopeless creating the initial profile and seeing as most of our users do just that when they move between machines it's been a no-go thus far.
