One model of computers has recently taken to giving a BSOD when you try an play a video or PowerPoint full-screen; after restarting, everything is fine. The fact that this happens when something goes full-screen has me thinking graphics drivers (although the fact it works after the reboot is odd), but I can't update them as Intel's site says that these boards (Intel 82915G/GV/910GL Express) are not compatible with Windows 7. Now, obviously that isn't entirely true because we've been running them on Windows 7 for the last 18 months.

Any ideas either how to update these drivers or for something else to check instead?

First thing i always check for when BSOD starts occurring is faulty RAM. Is it only that one PC thats doing it?

Ordinarily I would agree with you, however (at least) 3 computers have started doing it, all the same model and all at the same time.

Right click on the installer, and go to Properties

Under the Compatibility tab, select "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP SP3".

I'd also look at running the installer with Admin Privileges.

If they're old machines it could just be Windows 7 overwhelming the on-board graphics? Something sorta-similar happens for us with some Core2Duo HP's, think they're Q33 chipset - any sufficiently complicated webpage (e.g. ePortal) crashes the display driver. We've been installed dGPUs to solve it, might be worth a test.

Could it be an issue with the embbedded video? Can you run the video outside powerpoint, say via VLC at full screen with no issue?

This happens on all videos whether in VLC, Win Media Player or online, plus all PowerPoint presentations (even ones which are just text), so it is system-related not file-related. Sometimes it even does it as you log in and the screen resolution changes.

I've just downloaded the drivers from HP's website rather than Intel, and I can install those. Why didn't I think to try that sooner?!

Also @sonofsanta ... what is dGPUs?

Discrete graphics cards, as opposed to iGPUs - Integrated graphics cards.

In other words, we installed a load of cheap AMD 5450s (Sapphire ones are good, come with the low profile bracket) and it made everything good again.

One of those days ... I did think that was what it might have been, looks like that might be what I will be doing :/
