What is a Power User?!?!?

SIMS keeps telling me I need to be a Power User....what is a power user?

A Power User is a security group in Windows. Power Users can do a lot of tasks, but not as high as an administrator user.

 

Official definition "Power Users are included for backwards compatibility and possess limited administrative powers".

 

Making the user in question a Power User or better (on the local machine) should resolve the error you're seeing.

It's a default local group in W7 and Server 2008 (and legacy OS's)

 

By default, members of this group have no more user rights or permissions than a standard user account. The Power Users group in previous versions of Windows was designed to give users specific administrator rights and permissions to perform common system tasks. In Server 2008 / W7, standard user accounts inherently have the ability to perform most common configuration tasks, such as changing time zones.

 

For legacy applications that require the same Power User rights and permissions that were present in previous versions of Windows, administrators can apply a security template that enables the Power Users group to assume the same rights and permissions that were present in previous versions of Windows.

But surely an administrator account should be able to do what a power user can do?

 

I have made the domain/local admin a power user and also the user who will be using the machine, this way surely it can't find a problem

Funny you should mention simsperm, if I try to run that I just get told that 'subinacl' cannot be recognized.

 

I feel like I'm going mental, I can open SIMS, log into SIMS, but the second I want to open 'examinations' I hit a wall, surely if I can log in and use SIMS I'm not that far away...?

I presume your runnig it from an admin command prom pt and including the domain/user group topo?

Thinking about it, on the local machine add domain\domain users to the local administrator account and test. If this works, remove this entry and enter domain\domain username and re-test.

Well after all that it seemed it was a glitch in the install, I was advised to run simsappinstall or something with a similar name, and it resolved my issues straight away, I'm both overjoyed and disgusted.
