brewerd Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Hi all, I've been having issues with our 24-7 server (It's one of the original ClickView Models) and was thinking of making a new box for it to reside on, just wanted to know what setups people are running elsewhere, whether they are clickview boxes or something that you have built. Machine spec and O/S info would be great, and if anyones had issues with building their own box. Cheers.
newpersn Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 we just run a normal box with a tv card in it. Nothing special I3, 4GB ram and 1GB hard drive. Works well. (XP as i havent had time to upgrade it)

(Unless they have made MAJOR changes) Ours is an oversize tower with 3 twin tuner cards, and 7 HDDs. One for the OS, and one each for for the recorded channels. As to the OS, I can't rememeber, and have just had a look. Only it isn't working... Why did no one tell me, or anyone else? Edit - Scrub that; the graphics card or monitor is FU, but I can remote in. I have talked to support and If i build my own they won't support me if i have issues, but I cannot afford to buy a newer box or have the one I have refurbed, so looks like i should get comfy between my rock and the hard place. At least for now.
difinity Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 We have an oldish 24/7 here. Windows Xp media centre. I rebuilt it last week after it failed. Uses a Asus motherboard, 6 sata drives, 3 tv cards and it runs from an IDE hard drive. Is there anything in particular you want to know?

brewerd Posted February 1, 2013 Author Posted February 1, 2013 They sent me an image to use to reinstall my system too, but neither me nor their support guy could make it work. I did a manual re-install of everything instead and had them dial in to check settings and do the final setup and the darn thing just kept falling over. We finally got it working for about a day, and then it just stopped recording channels. I think the only way to solve my issues at the moment is a different machine.
difinity Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I'm glad it wasn't just me that had issues with their recovery script. Turned out it wouldn't work with the DVD plugged in. I take it you've run checks on the memory and hard drive prior to installation ?
brewerd Posted February 1, 2013 Author Posted February 1, 2013 I've ran numerous tests and scripts trying to bring it to life and discover its problems. Found out that 2 of the drives were more bad sectors than good, and that one of the memory sticks was having issues, got all that sorted and it still wouldn't play ball. Haven't tried it minus the DVD though. Could try that. Cheers.
